Hi lads! I would really like it if you would share with me the most profound and delicate game soundtracks you ever heard. I need to fill my FiiO M11 :)

For now I can say:

  • Stellaris
  • Endless Space 2
  • Farcry Blood Dragon
  • Dishonored
  • Divinity Original Sin 2
  • Pillars of Eternity
  • Fallout 1 & 2
  • Tyranny
  • Kingdom Come Deliverance
  • Layers of Fear
  • Subnautica
  • The elder scrolls series
  • X4 Foundations
  • Xcom 2

You do the rest. Gotta need those sweet sweet soundtracks. Movies accepted if exceptional and really ambient.

73 comments, and only two people mentioned Hollow Knight? That is probably the most delicate and profound soundtrack ever!

Here, I will just repeat what I said about it elsewhere:

"Hollow Knight has many many many incredibly evocative songs, and some exciting ones. And it has City of Tears, which almost makes me cry every time..."

Icewind Dale. The one and only best soundtrack of all time. The first game only, though, The second one had its moments, but nothing memorable.

Say what you want about the hype trainwreck and engoodening (Internet Historian covers it all excellently) that became No Man's Sky, but I think one thing they got right from Day 1 was really nailing the ambient and otherworldly in-game music. I rarely enjoy ambient or experimental music, so if you told me that some European experimental (electrorock?) band called 65daysofstatic was going to do music for a game, I'd be skeptical that I'd like it. They fit the space exploration context perfectly, and it helped that the developer brought on an awesome audio director (from Thief and other games) with decades of experience who made the procedural & contextural music happen.

Here is the link to the soundtrack album on Spotify of songs they made that were consistent with the in-game music. My favorite tracks are:

  • Supermoon - THE song of the soundtrack IMO. Used in at least one game trailer, and significant to a specific part of the game.

  • Asimov - Kinda makes me think of spaceship travel and battles

  • Prisms - I associate this with planet exploration

  • Blackspots - I think of fighting sentinels here

  • The Wrong Shape - Seems out of place given what I recall of in game music, but as a fan of both electronic and rock music, its a very boisterous and entertaining song for me.

Thanks for the recommendations. I evidently watched part of MandaloreGaming's Making YouTube Game Reviews but YT shows I didn't watch it all the way through, and I can't remember why - So I'll have to revisit that and a few reviews I might be interested in hearing.

Haha never watched this one, i'm more about the reviews themselves. And of course the memes but Sseth is a tad better in the memes department.
