Looks interesting, will check it out thanks. Chernobyl is amazing (and sad).

There's only two seasons of Sense8. I actually liked the second season better - it felt a little rushed, but after the slow character introductions of the first season I enjoyed the action packed, break-neck pace of the second.
Regardless, I really enjoyed it. Glad they were able to finish it. :)

Oh, I can see that. I watched the show after the ending came out, so I thought of it as the grand finale.
I can see where you're coming from, though. In the first season they really took their time, built everything up in detail - I felt the pace was a bit too slow for my tastes, but there was a lot of detail to everything. In the second season, when they realized they weren't going to have the 3+ seasons they originally envisioned to tell the story, they had to pack everything in to try to resolve as much as they could. I liked the much faster pace, but it did feel a bit rushed sometimes. The finale was pure fan service, but I really enjoyed it - I feel like it did exactly what it set out to do of wrapping up the story and giving the fans the ending they were longing for.

5, 7 and 8 were the worst. Picked up in 6 though, IMO. Freefolk is of my favourite subreddits. I know there was some drama recently with the moderators. I assume that's what you mean by successors?

Thanks for the handy link. Will definitely add it to the list of suggestions for the wife!

I'm not so the series type but when I watch one I binge it pretty hard.

Sort of lost interest in Stranger Things midway through the second series and haven't watched the third yet. Will watch it at some point, but probably not up my wife's street. Also, watched a couple of episodes of Black mirror and found it enjoyable. Wife might like that one as well. Thanks for the suggestions!

Is Dark scary at all? If so, she probably wouldn't like it. Glow looks like something she'd like. Not sure if I would though :) Thanks for the suggestions!

Haha. Hey Dan. I know! I actually suggested that to my wife but apparently once was enough for her. I'd happily watch it for the sixth time! :D

If the only requirement is not fantasy stuff, my favorite shows ever are

Like the look of all of those. Shield and Legion probably wouldn't be her thing, but will suggest the other two. I notice they have JJ Abrams in common, which is a good sign.

Fringe is definitely sounding more and more interesting. Not sure about the Americans, will have to check it out. Thanks!
Comment has been collapsed.
Fringe is one of the few shows that I watched the intro credits for every single episode (I watched all 5 seasons in a row on DVD). :)
I find the 5th season to be the weakest, but it is still an interesting one. I think you'd really like the show!
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for the recommendation! Must be good if you chose not to skip the intro. I think my wife and I skipped it every time for GoT :D

Yeah same. The way it played out, it was so clear that the minds behind it always had a long game in mind. Most other TV shows will forget things they've done in the past or forget about characters introduced, but I think just about every plot thread was recalled and resolved by the end.

Yeah that's what I thought too. I mean most titles in the first few are just released or not even released yet. It's just curiosity at this point.
Ratings on imdb are already pretty useless at this point, with all the plants etc but they're more reliable for titles after a few months when publicity has died down.

Vikings. It would be a compromise considering that it's pretty much fantasy, but without magic.
Also, I didn't mind season 8 (except for that horrendous attack on Winterfall, of course).
Also, definitely Dark. It's like Lost, but German low budget Nordic noir - and yes, time travel! A lot of time travel!
Comment has been collapsed.
Thought about suggesting Vikings, so it's definitely on the list, and Dark has been suggested a few people, so will definitely check that one out. We both enjoyed Lost. Thanks a lot.
The Winterfell attack was terrible but IMO it only got worse after that :D

Not into Manga but thanks for the suggestion anyway! :)

Loved breaking bad as well. Haven't watched Prison Break, so will add it to the list. Thank you!

Better Call Saul is probably the best spin-off series ever. It's a great addition to the Heisenberg world.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks! Have had a lot of people recommend this one, so it must be good :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I always recommend Better Call Saul, if you haven't watched it already. All 4 seasons are excellent, and another is on the way.
Comment has been collapsed.
Did you watch breaking bad? Better call saul so far seems really good but the ending of season 2 was absolutely terrible.
Comment has been collapsed.
the ending of season 2 was absolutely terrible.
Huh, strange. I thought it was great. My only complaint I have so far is that season 4 was really slow in comparison to the others.
Did you watch breaking bad?
Nope, still haven't got around to it. I think all that mainstream hype while it was running turned me off. I'll get to it at some point.
Comment has been collapsed.
You should especially if you enjoy better call saul. BCS feels like the smaller and younger brother of breaking bad. Its really good but everything it does is done better by breaking bad, at least so far.
SPOILERS ahead for season 2 of better call saul
About the ending of season 2 better call saul, i hated it because the whole season 2 is focusing on 2 events, Mike's revenge and and Jimmy vs Chuck. The episode before the finale showed a few events that made you think there will be some action in the end.Mike will try something and Jimmy will change as he said in the end of season 1 (you will understand better what i mean if you watch breaking bad). Instead we got the so mainstream end of every series, nothing happens wait for season 3. A whole season was hyping you up for nothing. This season didnt add anything to the series. Thats the main reason that i have stopped for now and i will see if i am going to watch season 3 and 4 before el camino gets released. And thats the main reason i prefer Breaking bad to Better call saul, in the first there is a reason for every scene and dialogue. Nothing gets shown just to increase the length of the series.

I guess you need to watch Breaking Bad first? My wife hasn't watched that yet. Thanks for the suggestion!
Comment has been collapsed.
You dont but if you do a lot of characters will be much more enjoyable because you will know their roots and characters.
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't. It's a prequel, and works well on it's own.
I've even heard people say that if you watch BCS first, will you will understand the character's motives more when you watch BB, but I'm sure that's up for debate.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sounds like either way, we'd enjoy the show. It's definitely on the short list :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I couldn't get into Better Call Saul. I loved Breaking Bad, but BCS just failed to hook me in the same way. It seemed like something to watch just because it was made by the same people who made a favorite show, rather than something I'd watch on its own merits.
Comment has been collapsed.
A had never watched Breaking Bad before, but I was hooked on BCS after 2 episodes. Character interactions and humor were on point for m.
I would give it another try. If you only got through Season 1, I'll have you know it gets better with every season.
Comment has been collapsed.
I only watched the first season, and while I enjoyed the first couple episodes, I felt like it dropped off from there. I felt like everything that happened in the rest of the season was less interesting and exciting than the first two episodes.
I don't know, maybe I should give it another try and watch the second season. I initially didn't like the second season of Breaking Bad (after loving the first season), but when I went back and watched it again I couldn't figure out why as I felt the second season was really good. On the other hand, I was never as captivated by Mad Men as everyone else seemed to be, and I thought Deadwood dropped off significantly after the first season. /shrug

There is nothing else worth watching if you end up watching breaking bad. It has a bit slow start but every season is so much better than the previous one and the last season is a masterpiece. There is a reason thats its the higest rated series ever at imdb.
But after you watch it no other series will achieve to hold your attention for too long.
Comment has been collapsed.
I have watched Breaking Bad, and I agree. I'll have to settle for something in the end though ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe you should check peaky blinders. The protagonist feels a bit like Heisenberg. Also sopranos is really good.
Comment has been collapsed.
Cool, will check peaky out. I know Sopranos is supposed to be excellent, but can't bring myself to watch it for some reason.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sorry for the late response but another masterpiece that you will propably both love as its not into fantasy and its a bit darker like breaking bad is True detective season 1. I think its pretty close to breaking's bad level, The other 2 seasons werent near that level but they are still enjoyable.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for the bonus suggestion! I've heard of that one and that it's supposed to be really good, but don't know much more beyond that. Will have a look :)

Thank you for the suggestions. I've seen BB, Chernobyl and Lost, but will look into the others :)

Such a shame that a great series like Lost had such a poor final season. :(
Judging from your Avatar, I take it you've seen 24? ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, only about 8 times through ;) I'm not sure I even watched Lost till the end. I think I lost interest after season 2.
Comment has been collapsed.
Lost is decent to pretty good up until season 5. Season 6 is too convoluted, and many people didn't like (or understand) the ending.
Season 2 is my favourite, by far. The whole Hatch, and the mysteries behind it, were really well done!

I should probably watch it again. I'm sure the wife would be up for it as well. Honestly didn't know they got as far as 6 series!

The Deuce HBO Porn and sex industry in 1970s NYC Times Square made by the same guys who made The Wire.
Black Summer Netflix. Zombies and surprisingly good, nothing like TWD (which has become tiresome), brought to you by the same people who produced the cartoonish and idiotically entertaining Z-Nation, but this one has more in common with 28 Days Later.
Wormwood Netflix Half drama, half documentary of the infamous MK Ultra program.

Three series I haven't heard of there. Thank you for the quick summaries! Will have a look.

Btw, I shouldn't assume that you've watched Rome HBO. I only got around to it myself this past year. And another one that I forgot that really impressed me The Frankenstein Chronicles on Netflix, which had Sean Bean as a police detective stalking the mean streets of Regency era London in search of a mystery.
Comment has been collapsed.
Haven't seen Rome. Will check it out. And the Sean Bean series sounds very intriguing. I usually love anything with Sean Bean tbh :)

I recognise that one for some reason. Looks good. Will put it on my (long) list :)

Seems like you may have gotten more than you bargained for :) Sorry I have to add one more because no one has mentioned it yet and I think you and your wife might really enjoy it. The Sinner - it's kind of a reverse engineered murder mystery with lot of twists and turns that has flown under the radar perhaps because nobody expected this kind of quality from a USA network show. Netflix has it on disc and depending on where you live VOD. Last rec, I promise.
Comment has been collapsed.
Haha, it has become a very long list, but I welcome all recommendations. I can come back to this post in the future when I need something new :) That one also sounds good. Thanks a lot!

Heard good stuff about that show. Thank you! Will add it to the list.

Below me somebody mentioned Sherlock (also BBc), I can totally recommend that as well. I shall think on it, maybe I can come up with a few more things I liked.
So you said your wife is not that much into fantasy and magic. What genres do you two enjoy?
Apparently you enjoy(ed) 24 hours and probably Designated Survivor? :]
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks! Will definitely be checking Sherlock out. And yes, I was obsessed with 24! Couldn't get into Designated Survivor though. I think there was too much focus on politics. Especially in the second series. I like something with a good mystery. Shows where you don't know who to trust and unexpected things happen. Probably explains why I love the early seasons of 24 and GoT so much :) Loved the first season of Lost as well.

I recently finished watching Game of Thrones with my wife. I’ve watched it before but once my wife gets over the shock / disappointment from season 8, we’ll need a new series to watch in the evenings.
I’ll watch pretty much anything but my wife is not big into fantasy / magic stuff. She just about managed with the dragons and white walkers in GOT because she was so engaged with the story. Anyone have any recommendations? We have Netflix and HBO. No spoilers please.
All aboard! The train has reached it's destination and all keys have been sent. Congrats to all the winners. Thank you to everyone that made suggestions for shows! We have enough to keep us busy for a long time now.Comment has been collapsed.
