Completely irrelevant removed game mystery edit:

Hey, anyone know what's up with the game "ABRAMS TANK"? No store page (as usual for a removed game) but no community at https://steamcommunity.com/app/518160 either? And the badge page https://steamcommunity.com/my/gamecards/518160 says "Invalid game" - but real invalid games redirect you to your main badge at https://steamcommunity.com/my/badges/ ... For some reason I could make a booster pack at https://steamcommunity.com/tradingcards/boostercreator/#518160 - but if I can't make the badge there's not much point... Weird stuff...

Original thing:

You know, with all the Winter Sale madness going on I was looking at my pile of trading cards, trying to find some cheap ones for badges... And, of course, I noticed a lot of This item can no longer be bought or sold on the Community Market. cards... Sigh.

Can't sell them. Can't buy the missing cards to make badges with them. They are going to clog up my Steam inventory forever. :(

But then I had something. An idea! You can still make booster packs for those games. Just need to open a Sack of Gems...

Well, I've got oodles of those, been grinding up worthless foil cards or surplus sale smileys for years... I kept waiting for a repeat of that magical Steam auction, you know, the one from... 2014? Wow, was it really that long ago? spoiler: The Auction Is Never Coming Back

So, as a public service to all the badge junkies / gem accumulators, let me mention: you can actually get rid of that crap! You don't need to keep all those half-a-badge's worth of Digital Homicide cards! Make some booster packs, and say goodbye to that junk!

Hmm.

You know, thinking about it a bit more, there is a problem with this plan. Instead of being stuck with a bunch of unmarketable trading cards, after making all those badges you'll be stuck with a bunch of unmarketable backgrounds and smileys instead.

Maybe this idea needs a bit of work. Never mind!

You know, If I were clever, down here at the bottom of all these words I'd hide a giveaway for some fancy removed game. But I already gave away all my fancy removed games. Oops.

And nobody plays those things anyway. I mean, they were probably removed for a reason. Stalin vs. Martians? Umm... Break Into Zatwor? Umm... All you'd do is pat yourself on the back for a precious and rare removed game +1, but they don't even count for a +1 any more. So screw that.

Well, after typing all this nonsense I've got to make a giveaway for something. Otherwise nobody's going to bother writing anything. I'll have to bump this stupid thing myself, and I don't feel like it. Umm...

Maybe a giveaway for something that's not removed yet? Maybe Steam will turn to crap and all these indie developers will bail. Hmm... 70% of something, or 88% of nothing...

Ok, checked my wishlist. Found some random indie stuff. Typed enough random garbage to chase away the lazy greedy people.

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

Would you kindly...

Now, if only Summer Sale cards would actually be useful so they would actually be worth getting from badges :D

I save up all my stupid cards for six months, then make badges like mad during the big sale... Why? I dunno...

The smart people sell their stupid cards and then... Buy games during the big sale. I guess that's why they are smart. Sigh...

Thank you! :)

I still hope like an idiot for some Steam "Event Cards are actually useful, thus are worth more than the standard badge" Event.

Last one was in Summer 2014 (with those teams and where crafting badges = getting team points).

Aha, the first few sales after that one I was waiting, but eventually gave up... Now I start making badges as soon as the sale cards start dropping, just to clean six months of crap out of my inventory... :)

So, if we ever do get another event like that I'm going to feel like an idiot... :)

Damn that price drop on gems. I use them as a trading currency and not so long ago I sold some games in auction and made 16k gems. Now their price halved so it's a nasty loss. I hope they start going back up in price once the sale ends.

Considering the sheer amount of 100 gem items put into the market, it's not very likely to get over 0,30 ever again.
In the past all those backgrounds would be from crafting badges, but with the cozy house just giving 200 gems and people with tons of alts that's a lot of free gems never seen before on this scale and they wont expire like unsold cards.

Oh, no, the sale items are all 0.03 since they give 1XP after a while so when people figured that out they became unwanted.
It's the other 2 items (emoticons and backgrounds) that give 100 gems each, no effort attached, not even a badge like old sale bg's/emoticons.

Aha, that makes sense.

I guess consumable things being worth a pile of money would have been too good to be true... Guess there's no harm in eating them, especially if they will expire soon... Oh well... :)

I kept accumulating gems, must have been a few hundred dollars of the stuff if I'd sold them back when they were worth something... Now, not so much. :)

I have no crystal ball but I wouldn't expect the price to recover that much... Who knows, though? Maybe Valve will do something different in the summer sale that leads people to buy gems like mad... Keep hope alive... :)

Usually I trade the unmarketable cards, either for gems or other unmarketable cards for badges I might actually want -- but it's tedious.

Making booster packs for certain games used to be worth it at some point, but not really anymore -- then again, gems aren't worth anywhere near as much as they used to be, and neither are cards. Wish I had sold off all my crap years ago when it was 7 cents per card and not 2, heh.

Entered for Atom, thanks :) (Man I want 007 Legends though. Almost as much as Telltale's Law and Order...)

Tedious is just the word for it. So much time wasted playing Steam, when we could all be playing a game instead... Sigh...

Yeah, I remember, years ago was it? Noticed a few buy orders for booster packs and thought hmm, I could make those for less than the gems cost, free money! But I never did it. Figured I'd be able to do something with those gems, so I'd better save them, just in case... Sigh...

Sorry I don't have any of those to giveaway... :) Looks like I've never even installed that one, but I never did play many of those Telltale games... Didn't stop me from buying all of them... Sigh again... :(

Thank you! :)

Apparently you get a lot of gems from that free sale stuff, the advent thingamabob... Seems to have done a number on the value of a sack of gems... I guess that's good news if you're buying, not so good if you're selling... :)

Well, I only use steam items for profitz™, so I cratf badges only from not-marketable cards and only during sales to get sale cards. Then I sell sale cards, make gems from obtained backgrounds and emoticons, pack them to sacks, and sell them too. Incomplete sets of not-marketable cards are stuck in my inventory, yes, but I sometimes trade cards from one game to cards from another to complete set, and sometimes I get bootsters of those games, and then I wait for another sale.

I do wait until the sale to make badges, but oh, sell the sale cards, I never bother with that... I just burn up all the profitz by making sale badges too... Sigh... :(

Hmm.. not collecting asset-flipped card-farming bait shovelware which later on got nuked off the store anyway means I don't have a ton of untradeable cards. But if I did have those, I'd trash them for gems, and craft some boosters for cards that are tradeable/sellable.
The trick is finding one of those games that a) I can craft boosters for, for as few gems possible and b) the cards sell for more than 5 cents.

I think Valve are trying to nuke the fake games without resorting to curating, and it seems to be working. Since the cards and the +1s have disappeared, the fake developers moved on to achievements and hmm, boobies I guess? All of which makes buying random crap even more of a waste of money than it was before - what's the point of buying a pile of cheap +1s if you don't even get +1s for them any more? Score one for Valve, but as long as people keep buying the crap it's just an endless game of whack-a-mole... :)

I haven't tried making boosters to sell the cards, but I'm lazy and that sounds an awful lot like effort. No thanks! :)

Thank you! :)

At some point, I'm pretty sure Valve will get tired of the constant art theft claims and do something about the absolute flood of identical "hentai" games. And then there will be SO MANY more removed games to hoard!

The only upside I see to crafting badges for these non-marketable cards is the +100 xp to your level. The only way to get a full set is to try and find people or bots that accept 1:1 cross set trades for non-marketable cards. So far, I've only found 1 bot that does this. https://steamcommunity.com/tradeoffer/new/?partner=350991682&token=l2wZSxL5
It would be nice if there were more bots out there that does this, so that people can make full sets and at least craft the badges for these removed games. Good luck!

Stopped making badges long ago (except for the occasional seasonal event ones), so I don't really care one way or the other, although I still have a few of those unmarketable cards myself clogging up my inventory. They will be liquidated at some point into gems. I too remember the legendary auction of 2014 rather fondly, I remember getting a couple of good games out of it and wish they would bring it back. One can dream!

Yeah, that auction was great... I was lucky enough to have a large pile of different smileys/backgrounds in my inventory, so I could see which ones were worth a lot of gems and buy huge stacks for 3 cents each. Got a lot of games, but I think half of them ended up being bundled later. Oh well. :)

Ahh, sorry, I haven't looked in years... When the booster pack creator thing was new I saw several "too expensive" buy orders for various booster packs, where you could just buy the gems and get free money - but I never tried it. Seemed like a lot of work for a small amount of money... Maybe I'm just lazy though... :)

Thank you! :)

I used to make several dozens of dollars profit buying gems, crafting boosters and then selling the cards back in the day (primarily on "Hatfall" and "Nekopara". It now only profits cents a piece, and the SGMA hammers me really bad so it's not really worth the effort anymore I feel :/

Interesting! Seems nobody remembers about making booster packs, even people who are regularly buying full sets of cards? Hmm... Maybe if you're making that many badges the cost is irrelevant - i.e. if you have to ask, you can't afford it? :)

Oh, maybe it's people gambling on getting a valuable smiley / background? Guess I just don't know. :)

Sometimes I'll see one of my random foil cards went to one of those people, where you wonder if they spend more on Steam trading cards than your entire year's salary... :) Guess it's not hurting anything... :)

Oh man, thank you!! I've been keeping these Cloud Chamber cards for ages because I nearly had the whole set and thought, maybe I'll get lucky and stumble across someone with the last two in their inventory that they'd be willing to trade me someday. Plus now that it appears that gems have gone down in value, it's as great a time as any to grab some for a booster pack. Now I just have to hope that it gives me the right ones... o__o;;

Aha, thank you for mentioning Cloud Chamber, that's another one I overlooked. :( Seems I'll need to click on every single badge manually, and see if I can buy/sell the cards. That could take hours... Ugh. :)

Hope you get lucky, and if not try your luck with some of the bots listed at https://asf.justarchi.net/STM - bound to be a few with just the right cards in there somewhere... :)

If you ever visit Russia, grab 007 legends for $0.5 (cd box / with steam key).
Also the game sucks, so you probably don't really want it. I played for 10min before giving up :D

[Quantum of Solace is much more expensive for steam copy. (no retail keys, they're for GFWL).]

I wish auction would come back too. But I guess it doesn't make much sense to be repeated.
