Great job cg/loko on keeping this great place clean, I've enjoyed being part of the community here.
Here's to another year of awesomeness!
The new feature sounds great, but I'm not sure I like the "time" parameter. I'm not sure whether anyone should be barred from taking part in awesome giveaways because they've been rather poor and busy during the immediate period before a contributor's giveaway, even though they might have contributed hundreds of dollars worth of games in the past. If anything, the minimum time should be tweaked; I believe that anything under 60 days would not be good.

If you're counting votes, then +1 here, was about to suggest something very similar. Other than that, happy SG birthday, and kudos to all kind people here!

Awesome to see this here now :). Thanks cg, and all the mods, and gifters who have carried this site the last year :).
My suggestion is that "exploited games" don't count toward your total. I'm not sure if that's already how it is, I didn't see it mentioned.

Grats, though, REALLY not liking that the Contributor giveaways that are currently running keep inserting themselves in between almost every single giveaway. That is really not cool, it's almost like those forums that have adbots that post an ad every other post. Really thought this community was above that type of behavior. Once at the top, ok, once in the middle, ok. Every couple of giveaways, sometimes the contrib giveaway 3 times in a row, NOT ok at all...

I hope in the future giveaways your not eligible to enter are either automatically hidden, or there's an option to hide them. Otherwise it's going to suck going threw 20-100 giveaways just to find out you don't meet the requirements for most of them. Especially if a lot of them are for extremely high requirements like $500-5,000+ for example.

The third-party SteamGifts Enhancement Addon already does this for the front page. It also gives a few more features listed in the thread.

I already use that addon, but it doesn't do what i'm talking about. I know I can ignore specific games, but that would ignore all public/private/group giveaways of the same game, along with any contributor giveaways for that game I might be eligible for. While yes the addon does have the ability to limit by points, but that's useless for what i'm talking about. It would need something else that limits the giveaways by your gift received value instead of points.

could you guys make it so contributor giveaways work like group giveaways? if you aren't eligible then the giveaway doesn't show up for you

Sucks for me. Gave away 3 Dota 2 gifts when they were still rare and now due to it being 10c I cant join these stuff. I regarded value of gifts being unimportant as it is the spirit of giving away that is important but with this new feature I feel excluded from contributor giveaways.

If there is a market value to those beta invites they are not worthless.

When I saw that giveaway, I thought it was testing for a feature which will allow people like Pkeod to make an official giveaway.
Anyway, I stated when this was discussed that I don't like the idea very much, but since several people have been adding such conditions to their giveaways I guess it makes sense to make it official, as it's easier on the mods than having to re-roll.
I assume that normal contributor giveaways will be listed in the normal order of things. Right?
And congratulations on a very successful first year.

This is an excellent feature and I can't wait until the public is able to use it. A major complaint is "I wish less giveaways were won by leechers" and this feature solves that issue completely.

While being completely calm and not panicking at all, I want to point out one other issue:
A person creates private giveaways, shares links with a single accomplice. The accomplice agrees to confirm receiving all the gifts even though they never existed.
???
Profit
Dunno what's your current policy on checking private giveaways but I Hope you will have the above fictional story in mind while polishing this new system. Thanks.

We'll have extra security when it comes to giveaway history. Don't worry, we've been aware for a very long time of people doing such a thing. That is why one entry giveaways do not count towards gift feedback. People attempting to exploit by creating fake giveaways in small groups will be banned accordingly. Please do not worry, as I've mentioned to you before, this feature is weeks from going live. We're very much so aware of site behavior, I assure you.

Happy birthday to sgifts.
It's nice to see new features added, but now some people started making groups of 2 people with fake gifts. Shame on them.

Well report them. They should be banned for exploiting the system.

My only concern about this is that people may start spamming keys from Humble Bundles, it's an extremely easy and cheap way to rack up a very high value without actually contributing much at all.
I know at least one user has over $300 given away strictly through Humble Bundles, and given that they may well have cost all of 1 cent each I dislike such a person getting higher 'priority' in contributor giveaways then someone who had contributed even $50 worth of games direct from the Steam store.

People are suspended for spamming keys. Believe me, they're removed quite frequently. We'll also, as I've mentioned dozens of times already, have extra security when it comes to Contributor Giveaways. Please don't worry too much, we're fully aware of what people are submitting.

Greetings community,
To celebrate the approaching one year anniversary of SteamGifts on June 1st, an exciting new feature is being implemented called Contributor Giveaways. Contributor Giveaways will only be available for "official giveaways" for now while we're testing the feature. If it goes over well, users will have the option when creating giveaways. Feedback will definitely be appreciated as we work this out for site-wide use.
The giveaways will work by setting two variables: time and amount. These giveaways only take into account received gifts, including those from group and private giveaways, created prior to the contributor giveaway. For example, cg sets up a contributor giveaway for $25 contributed over the past 30 days. If a member did not contribute $25 within the past 30 days, then that user does not meet the criteria for entering and could not create a giveaway past that point to become eligible. They would have needed to create their giveaway(s) before the contributor one started.
We want to thank those that have contributed over the last year, it's been a lot of fun and we've seen some tremendously generous users. We even reached a few major milestones! We've rocketed past 100,000 users and members have submitted over 50,000 gifts totaling over $500,000. We hope the second year of SteamGifts will be just as much fun. It's the gifters that make this site possible and hope they appreciate this new feature.
Best regards,
cg
