The title explains it all. This would improve the chances of winning for the ones that REALLY want the game. (Obviously this could be bypassed by adding the game to your wishlist, but it would stop the ones who just visit steamgifts to spend their points on random games)

wow you guys really lack imagination...

-Can only enter giveaway if the game was synced in your wish list before the giveaway was created. Preventing updating wishlist after a contest has been made just to be able to enter it.

-Steamgift only keep your top 25 wishlist, adding every game to your wishlist would not help.

And it should be a category like group or contributor, not for every giveaway! So if you wish to know that there is a better chance for the winners to be someone who really want the game instead of people looking for free stuff that they will never try(not saying that everyone is like that), the option would be there with the "wishlist" type of giveaway.

The idea is really not a bad one but definitively as a category, not the basic normal giveaway.

+1

That's what I was thinking, but I don't know if steam servers release the dates that games were added to a person's wishlist.

If it does work, and the feature is implemented to this site, it would backfire on me spectacularly considering I only have one game on my wishlist, but I really don't care. I just want to see more people get the games they want instead of some random person who ends up putting only 2 hours into the game.

-Limiting your entries to wishlist only is not a good idea since you can just game your wishlist for the most popular games given away at any given time.

-You don't need to add every game. You only need to add those that are most common on SG. Easily gamed.

A more developed version of your suggestion is in this thread. And even then, limiting a giveaway to someone's wishlist is you blindly trusting them that their wishlist is accurate and not just a Top 10 Games Of Last Decade As Influenced By IGN And Not Their Opinion.

You don't need to refute that last point. I've seen too many.

That is right wotgamer, while I would not modify my wishlist to not miss out on the games I really want in case they pop, the people who are really after free things could check which game is going to be in many giveaways at a given period and update in consequence.

It would work great for normal games that are given here and there, less well for the ones that are coming from additional key in a bundle or a game being massively sent out to users like Europa Universalis III recently.

With the current way that steamgift works, it would only work if the time of your last sync is older than the giveaway creation and the game was on that sync's wishlist. I don't know if steamgift auto-sync people's account. If they do, it could suck if you get an auto-sync right after a giveaway is created, prohibiting you from entering it.

So yea, for it to work, I feel like additional data should need to be kept by the server, but it could really help having your game won by someone who has been wanting it.

Fixed Idea: Giveaway Marked as "Show for People with this game in Wishlist,Works like private giveaway in a way that only people with that game in wishlist see it.
