The title explains it all. This would improve the chances of winning for the ones that REALLY want the game. (Obviously this could be bypassed by adding the game to your wishlist, but it would stop the ones who just visit steamgifts to spend their points on random games)

1) Giveaway pops up
2) Put in on wishlist
3) Idea of yours is now ruined.

My current wishlist does not contain every game I ever want to own/play, it simply contains games I like to track prices for, especially during the major sales when I can just view that page to see discounts.

When it comes to people online in general, you either allow them to do something, or you prevent it altogether. Everything has to be carefully controlled with various "yes" and "no's". You can't implement a feature and hope/assume people will be too lazy. If they can get around it, they will.

Exactly. Which also forces me to add every single game I think I might care for to my actual wishlist to use the website legitimately. Most people I know have more of a mental tally of what they want than using wishlists

^This, my wishlist is a mixture of games I am interested, games I have encountered and things I randomly added. So yeah, wishlist are by no means a panacea.

It's tedious to do since you also have to sync your profile.
There is limit to how many games Steam Gifts sees in one's wishlist.

Or, we can't even see giveaways that aren't already in our wishlist?
Not gonna happen, but that's probably what'd be needed for this to really work.
Too bad not every games/DLC/Bundle has a steam page so you can't add it to wishlists. <- BOOM, idea ruined

I think it would go more like this.

1) Put game in wishlist
2) See giveaway for it
3) Try to sync account
4) Giveaway ends before you manage to get it to work.

It'd be nice, but not nesseccary. I've started to add all games I know I'll never play to the SG+ filter, and the whole site suddenly got much easier to view, and so much easier to find what you want and really want to spend points on.

Good idea. My SG+ filter seems to reset every time I start a new session in Firefox though ;__;

I don't think it's saved yet or there isn't a way to save it. At least that's the reason why I'm still sticking with the Steamgifts Enhancement Addon.

Such behaviour would be justifiable if you work with commercial confidentiality or national security information. In other cases it's just overkill.

So.... why not add all the games to the wishlist, ENTER ALL THE GAMES1, which is for some strange reason disabled for me but hey ho.

Maybe put another optional restriction on giveaways. Like contributor, but this one will be must have entered X amount of giveaways. Or even won less than X or more than X.

Stupid idea. What if game is unavaiable in store in your contry? You cannot put it on your wishlist. Also - what about titles removed from Steam or bundles/packs that's been never there? Show me your Steam wishlist with Humble bundle 5.

It wouldn't be too hard to make a script that makes every "enter giveaway" button into a "add game to wishlist+enter giveaway"

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah because steamgifts definitely wants to sync with your account something like 5 time/day . Also, great idea because we cant add games we dont want in our wishlist. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY!.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I can imagine people writing to steam support "please make a button that would enable adding all the games in store to my wishlist in one click" or "could you please add all of the games you're selling to my wishlist? there are so many of them it would take me ages to add them all. can you do it for me please?"

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No for two reasons: sg loads only 25 first games from your wishlist (the need to change the script and store more useless informations - just imagine site loading wishlists with <500 positions, the servers might not survive this); people would keep adding games to their wishlist when new giveaway would show and syncing way more than it is needed (plus: no more entering for games they already have; minus: many users repeatedly syncing their profiles 3-5 times a day with possible consequences worse than any flash giveaway party ever)

Idea: only be allowed to make suggestions if you've given away a game.

Or at least be longer at the site than 1 week before making suggestions.

Then some games, like Civ 5 GOTY wouldnt be allowed to be giving away, since you cant add them to your wishlist.

Well, if you REALLY want a game, you probably will buy it (or download it with some kind of "magical tools that will let you have it for free").
If you REALLY want a game you won't just hope to win it by entering in a giveaway.
