Thirteen Ghosts (2001). Not the best movie out there, but the ghosts scared me when I was younger and I enjoyed the movie.
I also enjoyed House On Haunted Hill (1999).

I would advise you to also watch the originals, respectively from 1960 and 1959 :)
They will make you laugh, but Vincent Price was a brilliant actor and the old Thirteen Ghosts managed to have a spooky atmosphere despite the mediocre acting (even for the time IMHO).

I watch a lot of old movies, even some silent ones, and I usually prefer the originals, but with horror movies I think the newer technology makes for a better movie. I have seen the original House on Haunted Hill and I found it a little boring, probably because I am spoiled by the newer technology in the remake. I have seen other Vincent Price movies that I enjoyed though.
I didn't know there was an original of 13 Ghosts. From the preview it looks like it might be hard to not laugh while watching it even though it's supposed to be a horror movie, but I enjoy watching old movies like this and i'll definitely check it out.

That must be good, since it's been suggested several times. Definitely going to watch it now.

I enjoyed it, but I feel like it is overhyped online and since I heard so much praise for it, it didn't meet my expectations once I got around to watching it. I would also describe it as more of a psychological drama than a horror movie.

Thanks, Jacob's Ladder looks interesting, it's in my "to watch" list now.
Twilight is just horrid :D

Thanks.
I've seen all of them, except for Kill List and Stir of Echoes. I will see if I can find those too.
I may also watch Eraserhead again, that's a movie that can't fit into my mind after just one viewing. Also, some scenes are just hilarious :)

Hah! I've seen that when I was a teenager, on a small local TV station. I guess they were small enough to dodge censorship.

L'intérieur, Sauna, House of the Devil, Noroi, Světlonoš, Vampyr - Der Traum des Allan Grey, Descent, Oculus,... and many other fantastic horror movies

"Mama" is pretty good: nicely done, good story, really well constructed ghost story. Not perfect, but good.
"Drag me to Hell" Horror comedy, really gross and funny, in the vein of "Evil Dead 2" (Same director)
Also, look at this horror short,

The original Dawn of the Dead, and the Evil Dead series.
Frankly, I'd like to check out the Phantasm film series myself (coincidentally Phantasm II will be airing on one of the Encore channels this coming Thursday night...)

Thanks.
I've seen most of them - including Ghost Ship, which my girlfriend loves for some bizarre reason; I think it was ok and funny but nothing to write home about.
I Spit on Your Grave has been suggested a few times, maybe I should watch that.

Quite a few of the really good ones have been suggested, so let me add a somewhat obscure one. I might be crazy for liking this one, as its reviews have been kind of lukewarm, but I really enjoyed "Absentia". The plot focuses on a woman who's in the last steps of the process of having her missing husband declared legally dead in absentia (hence the title, obviously enough), when her somewhat wild younger sister shows up to stay with her for a while. Interestingly, the plot borrows things from something that hasn't been scary in a very long time - namely, fairy folklore - and, in my opinion, actually manages to make them severely scary again.
There are some jump scares, but I think they could be counted on one hand. Most of it is devoted to atmosphere and a general creeping dread. The acting is a little mixed but not bad. Maybe check some reviews, see if it feels like your kind of thing. Again, to be fair, I seem to be in kind of a minority when it comes to really liking this one. The friends I've shown it to found it to be okay, but some were frustrated by the movie's tendency to imply things more than show/tell them outright. BTW, I'd like to echo that "The Thing" is one of my favorite horror flicks of all time, so good on you!

I've seen a trailer of a horror movie once, but I never watched the movie nor remember the name. The only thing I remember is that the monster only lives in its pictures, for example inside an image on your computer or a reflection in the window.
It seemed to be quite interesting, so if anyone knows the name, please reply. :) It would be nice to have a short review in case anyone watched the movie.

As per title, I am looking for a horror film to watch, not necessarily recent, but scary.
Gore is ok, but I'm not a fan of jump scares - those get boring quickly. I am more into unsettling plots and dark or unusual settings.
To give you an idea of what I like, I am a big fan of John Carpenter (The Thing, Price of Darkness, The Fog, Christine...).
So let's see, what are your favourite horror flicks?
And now, for the unrelated GA: 1DyS0 [Level 1+] (ended)
New GA: /PFSnM/
UPDATE: I've watched "Don't Blink" because it was easy to find and cheap (a few pence, second hand of course). 9 for the idea, 5 for the final result. Too many plot holes, I guess that's where people disappeared. :D
UPDATE 2: I have now watched "Jacob's Ladder", wow that was a trip. Very weird film, I think "Hellraiser: Inferno" might have been inspired by it a little, but Jacob's Ladder was deeper, more mysterious and all round much better.
UPDATE 3: Watched "Emergo" (Apartment 143) and May, because I could get them for a few pence :D The first started ok but went downhill quickly, the second is very weird but a bit boring (very well acted, though).
