Is the world ready for Call of Duty Battle Royale Humble Monthlies?

View Results
[Recurring subscription] Well, I didn't cancel monthlies that initially looked worse than this... I'll just go with the flow: one more month...
[New subscription] I'm not into Egyptian tomb swashbuckling, but Calladooty is my joint.
[Maybe subscribe] I’m just waiting for IGN to bring back one of the previous good deals for new subscribers.
[Cancelling / Pausing subscription] That's it, I had enough of these. First UPlay, now Battle.net. I want Steam keys, deitydamnit.
[Non-subscriber, will not buy] Humble Monthly is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. And I don't like uncertainty.

I'm thinking the same. I have no interest in Call of Duty but I decided not to pause because I think the rest of the games are going to be good.

I hope you are right, I've paused and I am betting I am going to regret it. Every bundle though this year has slowly declined in value and quality, is this the point of rebound? I bet it is with my luck... If not then don't fret, your sacrifice will be remembered. :p

I paused it, so it's likely just my FOMO flaring up. But I'm in the rare state of being super stoked about some games I already own, so at least I stay at my money. It can fund one or two nights of beers and food while watching stuff with a friend :)

I bought it half an hour before its date.
Two or three games are interesting, can keep DRM-free version, trade Steam keys and CoD, so not a horrible one filled with regrets. But it's surely not among the "great" monthlies for me.

Ironically, there is a chance that the reveals will be worse after this move. They may have only budgeted for the basic pack and had to downsize the reveals to make up for the extra cost up front.

This is the best surprise. My early unlock went from worthless to awesome. This is a game I would never pay the cost for, but I will enjoy playing it - in single player campaign. The multiplayer alone I won't do. I'm old and stuck in my ways. But now I get to try out this game all teh cool kids are playing. Fun! Win for me.

I had a feeling this was going to be the case, but I don't mind. I bought it since I decided to try it since I heard good things of the blackout mode, but the problem is the player count on pc is abysmal... almost be better to have it on console instead. I am not sure what I am going to do with the new copy, keep it to have zombies myself or just keep it to trade/give to someone else (if the key works that way even though I already activated the battle edition)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it's not a new key for the full game , it's an upgrade key for the battle edition

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's almost certainly the whole game. There isn't any upgrade to the battle edition available outside of just buying the standard edition and I don't think Activision would go out of their way to create it for a humble monthly. The key page doesn't list it as an upgrade either, just as a standard edition key. They probably don't care about giving people another copy of the game because it's dead and it's not raking up sales anymore. If someone does end up giving their extra copy away, they might still get some microtransaction money out of that, so it's still money coming in for them. At worst they might generate a little (very little) interest in the next CoD that they're announcing either today or tomorrow.

Permalink

There is an upgrade from battle to normal but this is probably the full thing anyway is my guess.

According to this tweet from Humble Support, it seems that perhaps accounts that had the Battle Edition activated on their battle.net accounts received an "upgrade only" replacement, whereas accounts that had not yet activated the Battle Edition on their battle.net accounts received a full Standard Edition replacement. I'm not 100% sure if this is correct or not, and HB hasn't made any official distinction between the two as shown on the giftlink pages, but it would seem to make sense in the discrepancies people are seeing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I wonder myself when I got the email about the new early unlock or upgrade it said like “zombies is now part of the monthly” but then when I went to my humble bundle account I had the additional items redeemed and now an unreedeemed option just called black ops 4 standard edition.

So I like others are not sure if that is say a brand new key for the standard edition (which includes the full game + zombies) or is it just and upgrade key for zombies? If it’s the latter then I’ll just redeem it myself, but if the former I will maybe trade it since like I said before it was pretty decent of MP-only cod but on pc the player base is abysmal.

I may have to wait to see what others have experienced when they activate the new key?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I found this response from a Humble Bundle support staff: https://twitter.com/humblesupport/status/1134137021465841664

It seems to be a full Standard Edition version of the game, even if you have redeemed the Battle Edition already making whatever that guy above said a lie unless he can prove otherwise.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm... ok, thank you for that bit. I still don't think it's 100% conclusive, as HB could have different support staff who may be answering incorrectly or who read the question in a more ambiguous manner. Hopefully we will see some first-hand accounts with evidence coming up one way or the other on this so the matter can actually be settled definitively.

Well this make more sense, like said Jackhitman, is not probable that exist something like a upgrade key and if exist why appears with the same name than the standar edition?
Definitively this was a big mess not only for traders but also for the people that upgrade before their game.

From what I have read Black Ops 4 doesnt have solo campain. But they have Solo character missions. https://www.ign.com/wikis/call-of-duty-black-ops-4/Solo_Character_Missions

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nope. No campaign.

Only a practice (Solo Character Missions) where you can use classes and weapons to see how they feel before you go into multiplayer.

But you can play zombies mode solo to have some fun.

But this game is battle royale based so it is like 85% multiplayer and 15% singleplayer things you can do but you can do these things with friends in zombies mode to have more fun than solo.

I'm reading lots of mixed reports on what is happening with old giftlinks and redeemed copies, as well as whether or not the new Standard Edition giftlink is an actual full copy of the game or if it's an upgrade only to the Battle Edition.

Can anyone who has redeemed a Battle Edition giftlink to their battle.net account prior to the change confirm if the game still works for them?

Can anyone who has tried to redeem the new Standard Edition giftlink to their battle.net account that did NOT have the Battle Edition installed confirm if they were able to do so and if it activated the full game to their account?

  • Edit: According to this tweet from Humble Support, it seems that perhaps accounts that had the Battle Edition activated on their battle.net accounts received an "upgrade only" replacement, whereas accounts that had not yet activated the Battle Edition on their battle.net accounts received a full Standard Edition replacement. Well whatever the reveals I don't see it being as bad as the last time where they had a COD starter whatever edition for the early unlock.

Reading through some of the old comments and seeing how similar they are is interesting, and I'm guessing last time Humble did this it sold well enough since they did it again. However this time with them upgrading the copy so late it clearly hasn't, and I wonder what's changed... The general public's feelings towards this marketing practice of having lesser and greater game "editions"? COD sorta dying out? Humble having built up a better reputation and standard with their monthly bundles since back then? It now not being on steam? All four?

I actually only like the multiplayer for black ops but I hate zombie mode so the original was never a problem for me. However when I don't have a gaming computer to play something like that it becomes a problem. Even with an actual gaming laptop I would probably activate it to see what it was like since my family owns all of them but number 4 but then I would most likely just never play it again since I don't really play it without someone else
