2500 keys have leaked on a russian forum. There is a chance your Steam account will be suspended for using one of those codes, so you should probably NOT enter DiRT 3 giveaways.

Edit: Maybe they'll just remove the game from your account. Is it worth risking? You decide.

According to Steam's policy:

"There is a Zero-Tolerance policy for any violations of the Steam Subscriber Agreement and Online Code of Conduct. All accounts in a user's possession for any of the following activities will be suspended: Piracy or Hacking

This includes using an unauthorized ("hacked") Steam client to access Steam, attempting to register fake CD Keys or attempting to register a CD Key which has been published on the internet."

I won a key in an Ebay auction, but the key doesn't start with 'F' like every leaked key I've seen, so hopefully I'm safe.

Examples of leaked keys and regular keys: Regular: QGG0E or 4L6V8 or ZX5M6 | Stolen: FHX8B or FHX7D or FHX5X. Check the first symbols before activating.

The guy giving them away was Russian as well. :(

Sounds like the person who said that is wrong. We've seen 3 thousand codes leaked in that russian forum thread, not 3 million.

So....download and play it as long as you can. You don't know the key you got is legal or not.

You will be banned if your Dirt 3 key starts with F. I checked the 2500 keys leaked from codemasters VIP, all started with F.

I don't think that Valves is going to ban 2500 people just like that

Indeed. Especially when they done that before. They seen the results of it.

you people simply not realize all ~3 millions keys are leaked ... not some thousands ...
anyway how AMD and Valve handle is huge question as tons of the keys were in various giveaways and contents and trivias and who knows where else

This, they can't just throw all the keys into steam and remove them all without screwing over people who actually won them. Its gonna be an interesting couple of days.

Man this is a shame. I'm going to assume they will be blacklisting them all and people with valid ones (gfx card vouchers) will have to re-register them somehow. This of course means that any promo/contest keys will probably be gone permanently.
If I remember correctly, I won mine sometime in June from an official XFX sponsored contest before all this free code craziness started. Still haven't gotten around to playing it due to limited hdd space, too bad.

I won a Dirt Key on the 20.08. Should i write to the Steam Support that they remove the game from my list?
But my game key dont start with "F"!

I hate to say it (as much as I love AMD) This is all their fault, you don't put 3 Million keys on a webmaster with almost no security. For example when the Ubisoft Employee store link was found for some games, Ubisoft bit the bullet and let everyone have their games for $1.

"attempting to register a CD Key which has been published on the internet."

That would make using keys from the recent Sanctum giveaway a bannable offense, so clearly they use some discretion in enforcing their rules.

Not to mention that there are plenty of people out there who would find it enjoyable to give out hacked keys to unsuspecting people just because they think it's funny to get a stranger's account banned.

I'm sure there's a difference between the AMD Survey CD-KEYS and the Codemasters one. I got an AMD one a while back and my account is still standing.. for now.

Just avoid using ANY Dirt 3 keys you find from now on.

The real question is if it is possible to differentiate between keys stolen from AMD and keys AMD legitimately sent to people.

The fake ones begin with the letter "F". As I've seen.

So all the cd-keys legit and leak are from this site: http://amd4u.com/dirt3promo. How will they make the difference between the legit ones witch you can get if you have bought a amd card, and the leaked ones? They are basically from the same database at http://amd4u.com/dirt3promo.

A database of 3,000,000 keys for a game selling for $50 is worth $150,000,000. AMD is absolutely retarded for not having something like that encrypted. They probably shouldn't have kept them all in the same place either.

didn't you have to use a unique ID to claim the AMD promo keys?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Those unique IDs were, in AMD's infinite wisdom, included in the same database as the CD keys.

I wonder if they stole 3 million Deux keys from the new AMD promo.
That would be a 2 way crossfire screw in their terms
