Commenting on giveaways

I agree with you. People just spamming thanks is annoying. I'll often post thanks if it's a private giveaway, but I don't normally bother on public ones.

Lots of valid opinions on both sides of discussion here. Just to throw my two cents in I usually don't write a thank you on every giveaway I enter. If it's a new giveaway with no posts I will write something, and if it's a private giveaway with fewer entries I will write something as well. Obviously whenever I win I write a personal thank you message to show my appreciation.

The implication that not spamming "thx" in the comments makes you ungrateful is just dumb. If you're giving away a game just so you can keep track of all the "ty" and "thx" comments I question your motives. Being miffed when the winner fails to thank you in some manner is another manner altogether.

If there was a way to differentiate between forum comments and give away comments I'd see more value in using a post count as an indication of a member's activity.

That's why I don't post "thanks", I post "tanks" for non-bundle games, "tank" for bundle games and something more for private and most group giveaways.

I try to be original on giveaways, when I spread a thank you comment its mostly on a creative way.
Id share some examples with you, but recently they dont show the entered giveaways which are done anymore...
So yeah, be original people!

There isn't a right or a wrong answer here, and honestly, I don't understand why this is an issue when it shouldn't be.

The groups that require an entry to comment ratio normally do such, I personally think, because it shows that they're active and they speak. While that may or may not be true of everyone that does or doesn't "spam thank you", it's probably true to the majority. And smaller groups of course want active people. It's the rules of groups, not Steamgifts, so I just don't understand this debate.

I personally say thank you on every giveaway I answer. And then they get a huuuuge thanks if I win. I do so because I WANT to, not because I feel like I have to "spam thanks". Regardless of if I win or not, someone took the time and money to post that giveaway. I'm thanking them for their contribution to this site as a whole, as well as possibly my game list. I personally don't care if people say thanks or not on my giveaways. But it's something that I prefer to do.

I only say thanks on giveaways that I've actually won. And obviously, 'personally' to the person that gave me the game. :)

Who are we to judge whether a person should receive a little "thank you" message for their effort on creating that giveaway. How I view this 'issue' is that it's mostly kind and polite to thank the contributor. It's so simple yet it can make one's day.

Try to remember the next time you enter a giveaway it could mean all the world to the gifter if you just thanked them. No matter how bizarre it may sound to you, such people exist. But also it can be the other way around.

Additionally I would like to challenge each and everyone, who consider thanking on a giveaway to be spamming, to show an example and think of something to say instead of just thanking. Anyway you will most likely develop yourself.

It really depends on my mood and how much time I have. If I'm in a good mood, or just feel like someone should be in a better mood than I'm in, I'll thank them. Otherwise, I'll just click for the giveaway.

An exception is that I try to say something for all of the puzzle giveaways and forum giveaways - I feel that they put the little extra effort into the giveaway, and that I should try to contribute as well.
