Close to $20. I added some money for the holiday sale, but ended up not buying as many games as I originally anticipated.

Originally I didn't use the Steam Wallet at all, but during the last summer sale I had some minor problems using my credit card for bunches of small purchases. (Nothing serious, but I did have to talk with my credit card company.) At that point I decided to use the wallet to avoid potential issues in the future. I don't put too much in, because money put in there is trapped and only useable on Steam, so my balance is usually on the low side (now's a bit of an exception). But I do usually have some money in there in case a good deal comes up on something that I really want to get.
