Entirely curious, but how do the people of Steamgifts choose how to or not use the whitelist feature? Mine is either a very good ratio of Ga's to wins, by either amount or quality, or a decent one and active in the forums, or a decent one and a fun event. And because I seem to not be able to create a discussion without a GA, here one is for Runaway: A Twist of Fate. Level 2 restriction.
EDIT: GA over.

If you do not use the whitelist feature, why not?

Spiders are cool right?
But i don't have a whistelist, 90% off my gifts are Region Locked, if i put persons in one list my giveaways...well "0 Entries" is the right word for this.

Please, spare me the spiders & the hookers.

I just couldn't resist the bump.
Also, im not whitelisting or blacklisting people often. Sooo, i have no idea about the requirements.

I add friendly people but don't use the list after so it's not extremely useful.

I use my whitelist as a "friend list." I'm slowly adding to it (having not been around that long) and the people I add have in some way impressed upon me that they'd be the sort of person I'd like to give games to. Not a giveaway, but an actual direct gift. Since I can't afford to directly gift a bunch of people decent games, instead I hope to give em all decent odds of winning some better GAs.

That's one of the things I've come to really like about the SG community as a whole. There are a lot of good people here.

I've got a lot of people on my whitelist for how they present themselves in the forums. Others are on my list due to their generous nature. Still others because of creativity and effort put forth in their giveaways. I don't have 1 specific criteria for my list, but instead feel out different users on a case-by-case basis.

I have no clue how to add people to the lists. Never tried it, probably never will.

People I know from outside of SG and just people I like in general. Or someone posting a funny comment or making an interesting puzzle. I'm quite liberal with people I add to my WL to be honest

Well, you just got put on mine, though I don't use it that much. Probably when it gets bigger I'll use it more often. (Said the bishop to the actress.)

Basically, friends I've made on the forums including people who are active on the forums + people with good ratios + people who are nice.

Oh boy. Just realized I'm on your whitelist and you're not on mine. I feel like a complete bonehead. Commits seppuku Well, this has been fixed

No need. I don't expect to be whitelisted ever, even if they're on mine. It's just a nice surprise when it does happen. This thread was more curiosity than anything else, especially with the surge of whitelist threads recently.

Yes, but you fit the criteria by which I choose people for my whitelist. So you're in and that's it. You're never leaving. Never.

I choose the people who have won my giveaways, those I've giveaways from, and those who asked and have CV > values of games received, as well as those I like on the forum

A combination of what zelghadis and adam said already. My whitelist consists of either real life friends, people I've talked with in group chats and like or people from the forums that are active and I also like. The only exception to this are people that have me in their whitelists that make frequent and nice GAs for the people in there as I'd feel bad continuously entering theirs when they can't enter mine.

I whitelisted all people i won GAs from to return them in the future. I do not have any whitelist GA now but i am earning money for a worth GA.

My whitelist is still quite small, but that's mostly because I only tend to add people based on certain discussions, unique puzzles, creativity, attitude and so on. Basically, only forum contributors. The amount of games given away is irrelevant.

Since I am very new here, I basically whitelisted folks who commented on the giveaways where I did ask for a comment (so no bots) or then folks I had a chat with in their own giveaways or the discussion forums and that I liked. I imagine as time goes by, I might look into contributor levels and such, but I felt it would be unfair of me to be too demanding right away, when I myself have offered so little in terms of game value as such a young member.

As for blacklist, rude or inconsiderate people, those with questionable activity that clearly shows bad behavior online, those who might have expressed opinions in discussions I find disrespectful etc. I am not someone with a lot of money and I would prefer it if my games go to folks who want them or at least look like decent human beings who deserve my money. I know you can't know someone from some lines of text online, but it's the best thing we all have to go by in our choices.

I'm a fan of quick giveaways with cv requirements limiting the number of entries. If I'd do that with a whitelist giveaway very few people would enter, and that is why I haven't used the whitelist feature yet.

Nice people get whitelisted through generosity, being helpful, funny or if I have a specific giveaway I may briefly add someone for the giveaway.

Most probable reasons to be on my whitelist:

  • Great ratio
  • Constructive posts
  • Great trains
  • Great puzzles
  • Reference to good stuff (game, movie, pen & paper, ...)

and of course -mandatory- not being on my blacklist.
