happy holiday (even if 52% of the population, their minority electors [saxons, hungarians, gipsies etc, romanian was the dominant culture there but all other together was slightly more in numbers] werent allowed to vote about it in 1919, so happy antidemocracy day too, and minorities still awaiting the there promised autonomy)
Too bad unfair peace treaties after ww1 killed the first version of europe union (austro-hungarian empire) which already started to give autonomies for other minorities at the beginning of 20th century. Without those peace treaties 2nd world war would have never happened.
These are just facts, i personally dont care now, in modern EU borders are starting to be pointless anyway and nationalism is a terrible thing (humanity should be united and focus on exploring the galaxy instead:-D), but still, iam curious how history would have changed if the multicultural austro-hungarian empire stays and it progress more through reforms as a united country.
I believe it would have been much better for middle europe and i belive the region would be much more rich and wealthy than its now compared to west eu and we wouldnt be slaves of west europeans.

I understand perfectly how you feel, despite not being Hungarian. The reason why THIS centennial celebration leaves a sour taste in my case, is because it should proably be an anniversary for 100 years of local bolshevism instead. Or kleptocracy, take your pick. That's my country's current political climate and the only direction it's heading towards. A pit from which it will never recover, as one of the poorest countries within a crumbling European Uninon which should have never accepted its membership in the first place. Can any of you believe that Romania's population is second only to Syria in terms of packing their things and leaving the country in search of a better life? A true brain drain and depopulation while we don't even have a civil war brewing over here. Not yet...

Romania celebrates the 100 years anniversary of the union with all its historical provinces on December 1st so I decided to celebrate it with you all with a little train.
La multi ani, Romania ! Good luck and enjoy it !
