Or do you think they're just a huge gimmick?

As for myself, I do use them. Mostly Razer. Now, thinking of getting the Steelseries APEX keyboard. I've invested quite a lot actually.

No, they did not make me a better gamer, but they did improve my gaming experience. (And I get to rub it in my friends's faces that I can afford such luxuries. :P)

Your thoughts?

Not really, I use Microsoft SideWinder KB/M, x4 and x5, respectively, but I wouldn't really label them under "gaming gear" though :P

That said, I have grown accustomed to using a mouse with side buttons, makes thing a lot easier :P

I do not use gaming gear, I feel as though is it more of a luxury than a necessity so I haven't really bothered with it yes. If something really grabs my interest and attention I might consider purchasing it in the future but as of right now I feel no need to spend additional money when what I have now works great already =)

I've got cheap pieces of crap for a mouse and keyboard right now. I'd love to get some gaming-oriented ones though.

Mouse: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CPGHAA/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can't seem to find the keyboard I got from Amazon, but it was just a $13 Mechanical Keyboard that works perfectly fine.

I'm pretty sure no one has ever bought a mechanical keyboard for $13, definitely not from amazon.

I have a Razer BlackWidow 2013. The "stealth" one with MX Browns, not blues. I didn't pay for it myself, though.

My mouse is a Logitech G500, and I love this thing. If it broke right now I'd plug in a backup mouse literally just long enough to order a new one from Amazon and wait for it to arrive.

What are the browns like? I have blues but I'm looking to swap for either reds or browns.

I like them. They're not clicky like blues but still have a tactile bump unlike reds.

I absolutely adore the extra side buttons on gaming mice, but am still looking for "my mouse" since I tend to destroy mice; the wire is the weak point but I lose wireless mice and they have to be charged, which I hate, so durability is a must. I'm not sure I want the fancy shmancy MMO mice that have tons of extra side buttons, but I'm on a temp mouse right now and I miss those side buttons HARD even for browsing, since they map to back/forward on browsers so it's very convenient. I will chord those side buttons and the main buttons in MMOs, with keyboard modifiers, so that does argue for more buttons.

I'm equally hard on keyboards so I'm still not sure if I want to invest in a gaming keyboard. On the plus side a lot of them are really tough, I LOVE "clicky" type mechanical keyboards, and some of them even have plain keycaps and the letters on the sides, which means that my spouse won't whine when he has to use my keyboard (my current keyboard, a cruddy MS natural, has most of the keycaps worn off, and it's faring better than a lot of prior keyboards where I actually bored through the keys; he touch types but the shape of the keyboard throws him off enough that he wants to refer to the now-blank keys) so it may be a better fit. On the minus side, cost plus the "clicky" is bad since I sometimes go to sleep later and it can keep him up even on my mushy soft plastic thing. I would probably want one that isn't entirely tuned for gaming as a) I don't play a lot of games that need that sort of keyboard sensitivity, and b) I type a lot, so I would want one balanced between typing and gaming. I can type pretty fast even on a cruddy keyboard so I might see a typing speed improvement on a better one. I'm still trying to decide between a wired Logitech controller and the wired form of the Xbox 360 controller, given that I keep buying bundle games that would be more fun with a controller.

My spouse favors the old school IBM-style mechanical-knockoff, though he gets a cheaper version of that so it's not as bulletproof as the real thing. I have gotten used to the wacky semi-ergo keyboards but may wean myself back onto a straight keyboard if the keys really are that good on the gaming ones. I did get a Razer gaming keypad and it was a little too big for my hand and wasn't sure if I could adjust, and he fell on it with glee and I never got my hands on it again, so at least it got used?

I have no expectations that it would make me a better gamer, though a lot of attention and tuning of key and mouse mapping did improve my raid performance in WoW, so stranger things have happened. Certainly I find many games more pleasant with a gaming mouse, and if I enjoyed using my keyboard more I would probably like gaming more on a gaming keyboard, too.

Depending on how competitive and how much gameplay/quick keys/functionality you need, that money can be worth some investment. Most players are casual though. I do think it's overpriced.

I think the number 1 most important gaming gear is a gamepad, because there are so many games that wouldn't be comfortable to play with mouse & keyboard (FIFA for example). number 2 for me is keyboard, but that's just me because I do a lot of typing and also like to do it quickly. mechanical keyboards are great ! typing is very fluid and easy.

My $90 RAT 7 is the greatest thing to happen to me in gaming since BL2. The sensitivity control and the shelves on the sides that keep my hand from creating friction on the mouse pad are alone worth the cost, and then theres the... all the other things. Its really excellent and it looks like a freakin' transformer. Bitches love transformers.

I use the merc stealth gaming keyboard for the extra side spot for MMO's. I also have the Death Adler mouse and enjoy it. I don't need 20 buttons on my mouse or anything, simply 2 extra on the side is perfect.

I use logitech G105 gaming keyboard and a Mad Catz Cyborg R.A.T 7. They are currently kind of a waste since I don't play any games that require macros but they atleast look cool :P
