I use a standard mouse and keyboard, though do use a gaming controller. Easier for me to handle.

Gaming Mouse - Might be useful, but NOT RAZER.I'd never pay for such overprices crap ...
Gaming Keyboard - Unnecessary, 5$ keyboards are more than enough.

I've got RAZER and I've gotta say that actually it's pretty cool and I don't think it's overpriced, I've used a cheap ass mouse for a very long time, but after trying out razer mouse, i gotta say it was worth the price. (also, not all of them are very expensive nowdays)

Define overpriced? I think my Deathadder was $40~
People spend $40-60 on PS3/Xbox gamepads all the time. For how comfortable and precise a gaming mouse is, it's worth the minor expense imo. Cheaper than buying a single AAA game at launch :P

Mechanical keys are so much better to press, it greatly improves my gaming experience having one. Being without it and/or being somewhere else and using membrane, it's torturous and quite a bit less enjoyable. Currently 2 weeks without because of RMA, and I greatly miss the keyboard. While not all mechanical are really "gaming" keyboards, they really do improve your gaming experience, and often come with full key anti-ghosting making playing games a better experience.
Not being able to press w + D + Space is a real burden in MMOs. Or Up, Left, and Space (really common ghosting issue) while playing a racing game. A cheap $20 "gaming" keyboard generally removes this, but the more expensive mechanical are a great enhancement.

Care to elaborate? I use standard accessories but want to know why a gaming mouse can be important. Thanks :)

Macros, additional buttons, adjustable weight and DPI and are useful. But once you get that and it's comfortable, there's no need to go higher if you're not a pro MMO/Fps player.

I consider myself a casual player, i dont really need those. Thanks for the answer thoguh.

My mouse is pretty fast. Faster than that would be too fast for me to control it.

Yeah, im talking about normal mouse with windows accl. Tried once without accl. and it feels really unconfortable to me. To each is own, right?

If you get a gaming mouse, it feels just as comfortable as a normal mouse with full Windows accl, yet performs better depending on the DPI. I know cause I got a 3600 DPI Logitech G400, and it outperforms any normal mouse that I have managed to try.

Laptop currently with 5$ wireless mouse. If I was to build a PC , it would have a cheap 10$ keyboard and prob same mouse I have now....
No need for luxuries...

Gaming mouse is a must for me. Once I started holding a gaming mouse w/ buttons at the side + on the fly speed switch, I can't go back to those 5-10$ cheap mices. Macro's and key bindable are very useful.
Gaming keyboards is totally optional, but I needed one to accommodate games that needed high precision delay accuracy and fast return speed of keys(djmax trilogy, osu, taiko, fighting games). Also using one now to extend 2 usb ports outward. I put my gaming headset usb through the keyboard and x360 controller there. I haven't really maximized the extra macro keys on my keyboard since I don't play MMO type games nowadays
Gaming headset is totally optional, although again, I needed them for maximum experience for rhythm games. They will give you an advantage on counter strike or other games that has footsteps sound.
Overall, yes, if you want to feel that you are advancing(getting better on the game) getting better hardware is legit and not just a placebo.

I use my 2 side buttons as Page Up and Page Down :) can navigate pages so much faster than using a scroll wheel!

Five years ago I got a cheap a4tech x7 mouse and even cheaper Natec Barracuda keyboard. Since then I've tried lots of Razers, Mad Catz, whatnot - and nothing beats my combo in terms of comfort, so I'm not looking for an upgrade. For non-pro gamer, anything above this level is not worth it imho.

i'm using the microsoft sidewinder x4 keyboard for anti ghosting, razer lachesis (first version) mouse and sennheiser pc 360 g4me headset. after years and years of everyday usage everything is still functioning well :)

I use a split/natural/ergonomic/whatever keyboard from the late 90s. I'd never pay a premium for a gaming keyboard. Though I wouldn't mind one with mechanical keys, that make nostalgic clicking sounds when you press them.
My mouse has eight buttons on it. But I don't use more than three of them in games. I do use the other buttons, but not in games. As long as it isn't a touchpad, and doesn't use a ball for anything, I don't really care.

Cheapo wireless keyboard and mouse combo although I do have a 360 controller too.

Razer Deathadder for my mouse. Perfect shape for my hand, large size, and the two side buttons make it super comfortable and really easy to use.
Razer Goliathus Control for my mousepad. The Deathadder's optical was too precise for my desk and the cursor would wiggle around. Mousepad takes care of that, helps make sure the mouse doesn't slide around too much, and is pretty comfortable to rest my hand/wrist on.
Razer Onza 360 for my gamepad. Cheaper than a Microsoft 360 gamepad, works with the Xbox as well as PC, 2 re-mappable buttons and a real 4-button D-pad.
Never had issues with any of it, all 3 were under $100 total and they make my gaming much more comfortable and accurate.

I have awkward hands, so the only "gaming" equipment I have is a RAT mouse.
Everything else I have is cheap - simple mousepad, crappy laptop, etc.

I have a SteelSeries Sensei and a Razer Mamba. I use a CM Storm Quickfire TK with Cherry MX Blues and I have a SteelSeries QCK Heavy and a Mionix Ensis mousepad. Couldn't live without any of them.
I really don't believe that any old mouse and keyboard will do for gaming. Same with mousepads. You pay a premium for a product that you'll actually enjoy the features of. Either ergonomically or functionally.

Or do you think they're just a huge gimmick?
As for myself, I do use them. Mostly Razer. Now, thinking of getting the Steelseries APEX keyboard. I've invested quite a lot actually.
No, they did not make me a better gamer, but they did improve my gaming experience. (And I get to rub it in my friends's faces that I can afford such luxuries. :P)
Your thoughts?
