Do you have any family members on steamgifts?
Evil master plan.
I like it. Muahahaha.
It won't be long, they're both precocious little rugrats. The 8 year old beat the latest LEGO Batman game in a day.
I don't know if I want to get him on Steam too soon, because he might end up kicking my ass at games. ;_;

they will be console gamers until they have to pay for all that shit and find out how much it costs

Because I was accused of having multiple accounts, by the creator of a giveaway my wife won.
She joined recently. Like a few days ago. I introduced her to SG.
As of now I am not sure If this can be considered as multiple accounts, so some insight from the admins might be helpful.

How come she doesn't play Worms Reloaded on steam? She has 0.2h in it and no achievements. Where does she play it btw?

I don't think this thread is going the way he thought it would.

If you play offline the time in-game is not counted, not sure about achievements
Comment has been collapsed.
Several games register achievements even if you start Steam in offline mode. They pop up the next time you go online with that account. Some don't. I haven't found any list/information about which games do and which ones don't, but offline achievements does seem to be more common than no achivements in offline mode.
Comment has been collapsed.
not anymore - since introduction of steam refunds all time is counted even if you're in offline mode - the moment you go online with client it will update - it was introduced to fight buying game - playing offline mode - then requesting refund.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for that kind of historical info ^^
Though, one could just never login again with an offline mode instance :-)
Though, for standard installation it is less obvious of course :-)
Comment has been collapsed.
also won't work - you gotta login again to request a refund, the moment you log in again your game-time get's counted. Deleting game files won't work either, because data is stored somewhere else (ppl on reddit were experimenting with deleting game files and it didn't work). Save files also now contain playtime data.
Offline mode times out as well - it's something I experienced myself even before mentioned changes - when I moved to new home we waited almost 6 months to get internet, in this time I only played in offline mode and still after few weeks I had to share internet from my phone just to connect again because my offline instance timed out. And it was before the whole refund-thingy-update (back then it didn't count game time or achievments - hence my low score on Skyrim playtime while I finished Skyrim twice in these 6 months ;p and still it required you to go online very now and then).
There is theorethically a way to go around time-counter thingy (also discovered on reddit) - you manage to play and finish the game in offline mode then you reinstate previous instance of your system and all files (or format everything ;p) - after going online indeed steam will not count gametime - but it is only done to exploit refunds. As OP stated the reason she plays offline is just for him to farm cards with ASF in meantime - I doubt they would format hdd or reinstate previous state of OS for no reason at all each time "his wife" finishes gaming - so yeah, OP is lying and looking for an excuse to multiaccount ;)

On Christmas I was playing Max: The Curse of Brotherhood at a friends place on my laptop. He didn't get the internet to work on my machine, so we had to play offline. First night we played at least 5-6 hours, second night 7 hours straight till the game was finished.
Now, in the new year my playtime shows the 21 minutes I replayed one of the early levels the next day at home to find a secret. All the achievements are there, the playtime isn't.

There are some existing solution to help isolating system without having to format whole harddisk to reset settings :-)
You can play on virtual machine as well if game is not too heavy.
Eventually, set different dates/forbid sync, duplicate them and transfer game saves. But this is not really different than just piracy...
About OP, well, I am not sure he should seek for attention anyway...
Comment has been collapsed.
Virtual Machine would have the same limitations than local instance of Steam (only would work worse ;p) - you'd still have to reset offline instance after it timed out and you'd have to wipe VM or reinstate it to original stance before doing so.
Also same as there's no reason for OP to reinstate OS after each playtime, there is no logical reason for his wife to play her steam on VM only ;p

lol, what? Games his "wife" "played" for short amounts of time (just enough to farm cards) all having card drops: Minion Masters, Train Simulator, Dead Bits, Streamline, Monsti, Bloodbath Kavkaz, Frozen Synapse Prime, Hektor, INK, Out of the Park Baseball 17, Absconding Zatwor, Insurgency, Tropico 4, Pressured, Street Racing Syndicate, Memories of a Vagabond, Unreal Tournament 2004, Agent Awesome

I said the games HE MENTIONED... learn to read please man..
You responded on a comment he made which has the context
"She was not a gamer before we got married.
Now she loves GTA IV and V.
And Worms Reloaded. We play it together. :D"
Hence my respond... but nevermind I am not here for trouble, just wanted to say that XD nothing less nothing more :P
Have a nice day

Some really nice fellow on Reddit gifted me portal 2 in a giveaway. One of the reasons I was chosen was because my (now ex) gf expressed a lot of interest in the game so I entered to win it for her. I was so stoked when we won!
We proceeded to make her a steam account and everything.. and she never freaking played it once. Ugh man
Dunno I wrote this here but I'm still a little bitter about it :p

I was going to say, "your wife's account? Nothing wrong with that."
Then I looked.
Let's look at some facts:
Taking an overview of your wife's account, I have to say I'm dubious. Your wife registered 11 months ago but hasn't earned a single achievement in any of her games that have them? She apparently hasn't done anything other than farm?
I only have one SG account but I have several Steam accounts and for the most part they look like your wife's account.
I was going to say, "your wife's account? Nothing wrong with that."
Then I looked.
After looking, I can see why you'd be concerned about people thinking you were violating the multiple accounts rule--it looks like you have multiple accounts.

The second friend is the person she won a giveaway from recently. I guess they just got added when he sent the gift.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah, indeed.
I just thought it interesting that (in addition to everything else, of course) her only two friends have the same name.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, she was not a gamer before we got married. And the games she likes playing are on my account. GTA IV.
I created her steam account. So same picture. I thought it would be cool to have same picture.
Yes. Rahul is a very common name here. The other Rahul is also a SG user who gifted her a game.
I run her account on my archies steam farm. (we have a laptop and a medium powered desktop with a GTX 760 which does most of the heavy gaming) I run the ASF on my laptop. Because of obvious reasons.
Comment has been collapsed.
You run ASF on the laptop for what obvious reasons?
So your wife has an account, but you created it for her, you farm it with ASF for her, and she doesn't play games on it?
Comment has been collapsed.
The only conclusion i can draw from this is that his wife has no interest in steam gifts and he's using the fact that he's married to use multiple accounts or His wife is his right hand.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's never too early. I created an SOE account for my son when he was very young, to play The Agency: Covert Ops on Facebook, to farm Station Cash. (The game was released around the time he was born.) Now he's six and recently I introduced him to DCUO, and he has an account with some Daybreak Cash to use.
Comment has been collapsed.
my laptop stays on for like 24x7 and is always online.
She plays on the desktop which is connect online only when she wants to. (GTA V is a pain. They might as well remove the remember signin option)
I just checked her account and saw that worms reloaded shows 0.2 hrs of playtime. Which I can guarantee we have played for hours together. So I am not certain about the time tracker.
Comment has been collapsed.
No offense, but I trust Valve's account of the account's usage more than your own. Why does your wife have zero achievements?
Your wife's account looks like an alt for farming.

I will test it out and confirm. As of now I found this .

I farm offline with ASF. The hours for those accounts register.
And you didn't address why your wife's 11-month-old account has the same number of achievements as someone who doesn't have a Steam account.

I think you will find that answer here.
https://steamcommunity.com/stats/WormsReloaded/achievements/

Sorry for the maybe stupid question, but it's pretty neat to have that little achievement overview, how did you manage that? Something in the steam settings or is it another program?
Comment has been collapsed.
The pic I posted? If you mean how I posted it, I used an extension for Chrome to capture the entire page. If you mean how it says 0 of N achievements, that must be the Enhanced Steam extension.

You wife is not an excuse for multiple accounts as she never use it, as you are telling us she would only play on your own account.
In same family you might have one account, but you are directly proving that is not the case here.
No one as ever played or used on this account, especially your wife.
Thus you are the only user that uses it to idle and farm cards...
You are using yourself this second account for multiple entries on SG.
This is a bannable offense here, and attention you are seeking here will just speed up the process.

I am not replying to your inquiry to him, only wondering if it's directed to me.
There are cases in this world for couple (married or gf/bf) that have Steam account solely to contact the other side.
Happened to me, really, as I am more active on Steam than on Whatsapp. 😀
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know how you can imagine I could have directed my post to you, since you weren't part of discussion (I hadn't seen you before) and I am directly replying to him...
If you still wonder, then short answer is no.
I don't have bad opinions about people using Steam only to chat, especially when one of user is a regular Steam user.
I just have some opinions about allowing bot accounts to be used as wife/sister/brother accounts for multiple entries on SG !
You can use any account to discuss with your half. Even a restricted one.
But just upgrading it to $100 worth of games is just to be able to use it on SG.

Don't tell everything he's doing wrong, you may give hints for some other people to better hide his ass...

I think most people trying to make a second or third account look legitimate would know the to avoid the most damning things I listed above.
Comment has been collapsed.
Obviously not OP. There are probably more of people li him.
But that was just a suggestion. Any fraudulent users are taking useless risks anyway.
Comment has been collapsed.
Also there is something that I was not comfortable revealing because I am not sure how legit it is.
We also play a few games together. Using lan even though the game exists on one account.
Disconnect both computers. Fire up steam offline and connect on lan. We played some little amount of CS 1.6 like this.

You're afraid that Valve is reading these forums just looking for reasons to ban people?

+1 it's obviously a 2nd account and he's lying about his wife if he's even married.

You used to have to tell support that you're creating a second account in your household for another family member. Or so I had to when my bro created his acc when we were living together.

he seems to be banned!!!!!!

Hi, the giveaway creator in question here.
If you were to look at the two accounts you'd easily understand that the second account has only a few games and none of them seem to have been played only idled. it's an easy thing to do,say it's a family member's account to get away with it. but I am sorry I fail to believe you so i'll just wait for a check from support .
Thanks ^_^

I posted a reply to him above when he answered my question about why family = multiple accounts was even in the poll.
If I were you I would have come to the same conclusion.
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Also a very happy new year ^_^

You're the one that posted your suspicion and prompted him to create this thread that has not helped his case.

Like it says in my post above, I was going to say that family members in the same household can have accounts here, that's not an issue. But I wanted to see if I could see the wife's profile really quickly. Saw you commented on his profile, saw he responded with his wife's account's name... went there... no achievements?
No achievements?!
Comment has been collapsed.
At least if someone's using that account they should have played games on it. You cant make a steam account on someone's behalf, join sg and then say it's a family member's account but i use it for myself.
he clearly mentioned it that he uses the account for idle farming.
Comment has been collapsed.
He did say that.
There's just no evidence in that profile that it is a genuine account by the spirit of SG's rules. The letter? I don't know--not my determination. But the spirit? That looks like a farm account and his attempts to explain why it looks like a farm account but isn't are unconvincing.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm really divided, now that he has mentioned he has a month old kid i'm going jelly.

Bhai jaakar giveaway dekh already had 3 multiple account users there. Simple leaves me mind fudged as to what's wrong with people.
I dont earn big money heck i'm still a college student. giving away games whenever i can afford some and this is what i see? so many multiple accounts? I can't share my personal problems here but I understand abusing wasn't called for, it's just that times been rough for me and it came out on you. I still fail to believe your story though. I'm sorry.

I have a few on Steam but no one on SG that I'm aware of. ^^

Just spirit animals are the same. We are bounded by our mutual love for cows and rivalry toward each other.

My whole family is on Steam however only me & my hubby have SG accounts (he was the one who intro me to SG).
My husband however got too busy to game much so he's not on Steam much and his SG account is basically dead.
He only sees this site as a giveaway site to get games whereas i enjoy the community here and see this site as a great way to share some positive karma hence why I'm still around ;)

my Brother but he is too busy being too skeptical of this site [and work :)]
