What's your poison SG? Tonight I'm enjoying some Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, an old favorite.

It doesn't have to be booze but, well, that's sort of the point. Perhaps introduce fellow imbibers to some new beers, wines, and spirits.

They actually sell those here in the US, it's literally a wine bottle-sized wine goblet.

If you like Baltic-style porters, you really must try the Gonzo Imperial from Flying Dog. Magnificent.

I will search it in shops here, in Poland, but I think it will be pretty hard to find, so I think I will eventually buy it abroad via Internet :D

it's a different experience. To put it bluntly, it's the difference between getting wasted as quickly as possible, and becoming gradually more and more inebriated. It's a very mellow drunk.

(it also affects the taste)

Which brand? Mead can get very pricey, I have a couple of brands I treat myself to around the holidays.

In stores here in Australia I'm pretty much limited to one brand ( Maxwell ). I can find some produced by smaller brewers but not many. Probably nothing as good as what can be found overseas though.

Sambuca and coffee isgood, or a bit of Irish Cream. I'd assume you have access to many more varieties of mead, and cheaper ones too, than the US? It can be prohibitively expensive here.

I don't know how it is in the US. When i tried out mead, I bought cheap discounter ones (bad idea). Then I met a guy on a market who has sold his self made mead, he has told a bit about the produce, different sorts and why cheap mead is not good (contains sulfide etc).
this for example is yummi, and not expensive. (I have to say that I rarely drink, I don't need 1 bottle/week, otherwise it would be indeed expensive ^^)

Oh I don't/can't drink like I once did. A good thing, really, since I'd never be able to afford to drink the beverages I do now!

I guess I just am used to thinking of drinking beer, wine, etc as a normal part of adult life in many cultures.
I also don't necessarily consider wine to be female and beer to be male. I especially would think that in Germany it would be different?

I'm currently trying to stay off the booze...

But otherwise I mostly drink single malt whisky, scrumpy or real ale. My favourite whisky is Isle of Jura by a wide margin. I have even visited the distillery, My favourite ale is probably Black Sheep Riggwelter. My favourite scrumpy is the kind that comes from farms in Somerset in generic plastic containers with 'SCRUMPY' written on the side in marker pen.

During my continental exploits I have been drinking Calvados brandy and Kir Normale or both. If I have to drink wine I prefer chardonnay or merlot (ideally South African, Stormhoek is my favourite). la Goudale abbey beer is also lovely.

If pushed I can make do with Jagermeister, a nice IPA, absinthe or even vodka. But I draw the line at lager...

I had to look up scrumpy, but that sounds awesome. I do like ciders, especially in summer and spring.

When it comes to Scotch I tend to prefer the Highland style like Glenmorangie over Islays like Jura, at least the one I had.

Never tried Riggwelter, I'll have to see if I can get it here, seems like my kind of beer.

I draw the line at lager...

Even dark, more complected lagers? To each their own:)

I did really like the highland whiskies but after I found the Jura I felt there was no going back, it was just so smooth and and also I really started to realise the difference that chill-filtration for cosmetic reasons in many whiskies made to the more subtle flavours. But depending on my mood I enjoy Bowmores and some of the peatier malts, or I can even appreciate the relative bite of certain blended whiskies like Jamesons or Monkey Shoulder.

And also everyone was really nice when I visited the Isle of Jura, which helps...

Where I come from there is a really strong real ale scene and lager gets frowned on somewhat, and most places I travel to favour ciders, stouts or other local specialities. Local bars often just have Carling and Fosters on tap to cater to people who really want lager. Sometimes Stella or Carlsberg. So to be honest I probably haven't had the chance to try any interesting lagers, especially dark and complicated ones...

Proper scrumpy is illustrated as follows;

As much as I enjoy a good drink (and other vices) I don't think if I'd never had any that I'd be missing out. Well, except that I'm the kind who just likes to try things for the sake of trying things.
