Oklahoma.

A guy breaks into a house where two young women live. He shoots one, and buries her alive. He rapes the other. On Tuesday, he was killed by lethal injection. But. They fucked up. He took 45 minutes to die, and he died in agony. Source

So, what do you think SG? Did he deserve it? Is it barbaric?

Deserved it.
He ended a young life and completely traumatized the other for the rest of her life, without a doubt.
Anybody committing such ill crimes should be put to death too, quick and easy or slow and painful, it doesn't matter, what was done was sick.

He should get raped, shot and buried alive.

Just joking, I'm bad with moral questions.

I think death is pointless, why give him a prize?

Those people should work back for the community, an equivalent to the quarries for prisoners on the old times. Make them do something useful.

At least the victims of these crimes don't have to live every day dreading that their attackers will escape from or be released from prison.

I remember watching a movie called K-Pax and in that movie, a human asks an alien if they have prisons in his planet. The alien responds by saying something like "only primitive beings like humans would put someone in prison". I don't remember the exact words since I watched that movie years ago. Although it's just a movie, it always makes me think what a more intelligent race would do to their killers and rapists and thieves. Perhaps there is a better way to deal with people like this? I don't know, but it's interesting to think about.

I'm not sure what to say about the death penalty but I think that the one that got away is probably ok with him suffering for 45 minutes for what he did. He destroyed her life and the life of others.

A more intelligent race probably wouldn't even have killers and rapists and thieves. It just goes to show how savage and uncivilized humans actually are =o

I think he deserved it but not in this way. "An eye for an eye." He would have been executed but it should have been quick. Anyway, I'm not a judge or don't have knowledge of law. However, we should teach people humanity, not train them as a racehorse.

i personally think prisoners rights is an oxymoron. by infringing upon the rights of others you waive your rights. and unless he was actually innocent i have no qualms with the pain and suffering he endured as he died.

I'm against the death penalty altogether. A number of people on death row are later exonerated, and even if most are guilty, the chance of killing the few that are not makes it immoral. Besides, it is possibly more punishing for the guy to have to sit in jail his entire life. Additionally, it is actually cheaper for the state to keep them around than to execute them. Regardless of whether he "deserved it," there are still much better reasons to not do it.

Either way, it's not gonna bring those girls back or console the family.

"All it does is satisfy this biblical need for revenge." - George Carlin

Someone once proposed we should do away with expensive prisons, and instead send all criminals like that to an island to fend for themselves

Biblical revenge

Original Christians (read: Catholics) are actually against the death penalty.

And that sounds a lot like Battle Royale. And similarly the Hunger Games.

fend for yourself - to take care of and provide for yourself without depending on anyone else
how is that similar to kill or be killed/only one may survive situation?

It was proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he was responsible for those heinous crimes.
In this particular case,I have only one thing to say about his agonizing execution.

Oops.

"One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several were dropped and rolled down toward the fence.

Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." He just knew what it was. "Oh my," he shuddered, "it's Satan and the Lord dividing the souls at the cemetery. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.

"Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard. Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls." The man said, "Beat it, kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk?"

When the boy insisted, though, the man hobbled to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me..." The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been telling the truth. Let's see if we can see the devil himself."

Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of Satan.

At last they heard, "One for you, one for me." And one last "one for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence, and we'll be done."

They say the old guy made it back to town 5 minutes before the boy.
