I read mostly fiction and Sci-Fi, but A Short History of Nearly Everything and Guns, Germs, and Steel are both great books. Really interesting stuff.

(I know I'm gonna get some flak for this from certain people) A Doctor in the House by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was a good read in my opinion.

The Emperor of all Maladies: A Biography of Cancer

It's absolutely fascinating-- one of the best books I've ever read, fiction included.

THe diary of colon and the Antonio Pigafetta books...That makes the statement of "factual" books see...like...that have a lot of "holes"...more the pigaffeta one :P. And don´t make me start with magical realism...that genre make a lot of literature critics have some reallyyyy bad days :D.

My favourite one's definitely Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel.
Honourable mention goes to Benny Morris' 1948 and After.
