Hi,

My question is pretty simple. What motivated you to join this site and give you games away?

I've been told that I don't have enough experience in this site to join most giveaway groups, which is fair enough, as I've only been a member for a few months. I have however found a lot of really generous people who give far more than they receive, as well as people who receive without ever giving back. To be honest, this site caters for both, from what I've seen. And that's why I want to be more active here. I love giving and a enjoy receiving, but I like giving far more.

The reason I ask the question in the first paragraph is to tell you why I've joined this site and find out what your reason is. I used to buy bundles when they looked interesting, and after a while I accumulated about twenty duplicate keys. So I figured that I'd ask some of my real-life friends if they're interested in free games (since I can't use them). I assembled a nice spreadsheet with the names of the games that I had extra, added pictures of the gameplay and the covers for each game as well as a link to the steampage for each title. I even wrote a small summary of each game that I'd tried, describing what I like about it. This spreadsheet was send to my friends telling them to let me know what they're interested in. So I waited. And waited. After three days I quietly asked if anyone had even looked at the list. I got a few uninterested responses, with my friends each seemingly reluctantly asking for a title. Kinda like they're doing me a favour. I'll be honest, that hurt a little, so I starting looking for alternative ways of giving away my keys without having to (almost) beg people to take it.

So I joined this site. Now I haven't been around for very long, and I haven't given away a ton yet, but that's going to change. The reason is that I recently got duplicate keys for Thief, Murdered: Soul Suspect and Alien Isolation. Surely my real-life friends would leap at these (I know. I don't learn quickly)? I didn't make the same effort I did the previous time. The names were WhatsApp'ed (is that a verb? Should be) to them. They each asked for a title again. So at least that was faster than before. However, did I get a thank you? Barely. The friend who took one of the games had to be prompted to simply tell me if it activated successfully. (I knew it did. He activated it minutes after getting it.) I got a thank you three days later.

So what does that mean? Well, I don't think I'll be giving away much to my real-life friends anymore. If I give away a title on SteamGifts and I don't get a thank you, it's a random stranger on the Internet. So I'm afraid that if I have extra cash or keys from bundles or both, I'll be unloading them here. On you. Sorry. :)

Thank you for sitting through my story. As a reward, here's a little something. If you win, I would appreciate a thank you. I really dislike it if someone wins and does not activate the key, so please activate. You do not have to say thanks for each game you enter, but if you do enter something, I'd like a bump. :)

Here's hoping this is the start of a beautiful friendship. Or something.

I heard about a huge giveaway with 100.000 keys but i had no idea about the SG. So i decided to give it a try. The Game was called Dwarfs!? Some might remember this giveaway. So of course i won the game like everyone else :D they had around 65.000 left keys from that one haha.

I originally discovered their sister site, Steamtrades, and thought it would be a good way to trade away some unwanted bundle keys for games that I might want, but after registering there, I saw a link to Steamgifts, and thought this was an even better idea to simply give them away, instead. :)

I firstly found the trading site. I initially joined the site because I wanted to trade. Then I saw the games and thought that it would be cool to win some games too. :P

I had originally joined steamgifts to trade games I had gotten on my first purchase of humble bundle. (it was the Abyss Odyssey bundle a few months ago.)

I was googling for some free stuff and on someone's blog there was an article going like "here's a referral, there's a referral oh and there's also this cool site that is not actually a scam!" And it kinda worked though not at first, so I sticked around for a bit and after 5 threads about how this site is in fact a scam and several threats to admins about me leaving it now finally works.

And I even got some new friends as a bonus, 10/10, would Google for free shady stuff again.

Needed a way to offload a giftable copy of a game that I got with the purchase of another one... since I already owned that one, and I didn't know anyone interested in it that didn't already own it either. Since then, have been both giving and receiving very casually.

Have a bump, some good stuff in there :)

Here's the process I went through...

Was buying steam games for awhile and had no idea about bundleThes or even how to activate a key. I thought you just buy Steam games directly.

Then I saw some post somewhere in a review of a game them say they bought the game really cheap in a Bundle so they weren't that disappointed in the game since it was just pennies.... I thought bundle??? So I googled Steam bundle... discovered indiegala first and googled to see if it was a scam. It seemed legit so I bought a bundle and learned how to activate games.

Then I googled free Steam games--- realizing then that you can somehow get games OUTSIDE of Steam and there are actual giveaways of Steam keys. THEN, I found Steam gifts.

I was looking for a signup to get free games and saw all these many giveaways and thought, huh wha?????

Created a login and within a few days discovered the discussion forum and of course the puzzles. I was intrigued as I've always enjoyed puzzles... so the rest is history.

Thanks for sharing your story... so here's mine!

Free games obviously, but it's been 3 years and I only won 7 times :/. By the way, wrong category.

I've been trying to get away ever since, but my kidnappers are too nice to me.

I had like 10 games when I joined, and after a while I could get more games for both myself and for giveaways - and I still love creating giveaways :)

Mine's pretty much the same's yours: Impulsive bundle buyer, didn't want keys to go to waste.
You'd figure the draw for most people would be "All right, free games!" That actually deterred me for about a month after I created my account (which I did only because of wany's prodding <3) - it's gotta be a scam. After he explained it to me, I dove into both sides with gusto (er as much's I can muster)(stoic and whatnot).
Isn't it weird how those a person is more familiar with can grow almost-contemptuous of their sincerity?
