Hi,

My question is pretty simple. What motivated you to join this site and give you games away?

I've been told that I don't have enough experience in this site to join most giveaway groups, which is fair enough, as I've only been a member for a few months. I have however found a lot of really generous people who give far more than they receive, as well as people who receive without ever giving back. To be honest, this site caters for both, from what I've seen. And that's why I want to be more active here. I love giving and a enjoy receiving, but I like giving far more.

The reason I ask the question in the first paragraph is to tell you why I've joined this site and find out what your reason is. I used to buy bundles when they looked interesting, and after a while I accumulated about twenty duplicate keys. So I figured that I'd ask some of my real-life friends if they're interested in free games (since I can't use them). I assembled a nice spreadsheet with the names of the games that I had extra, added pictures of the gameplay and the covers for each game as well as a link to the steampage for each title. I even wrote a small summary of each game that I'd tried, describing what I like about it. This spreadsheet was send to my friends telling them to let me know what they're interested in. So I waited. And waited. After three days I quietly asked if anyone had even looked at the list. I got a few uninterested responses, with my friends each seemingly reluctantly asking for a title. Kinda like they're doing me a favour. I'll be honest, that hurt a little, so I starting looking for alternative ways of giving away my keys without having to (almost) beg people to take it.

So I joined this site. Now I haven't been around for very long, and I haven't given away a ton yet, but that's going to change. The reason is that I recently got duplicate keys for Thief, Murdered: Soul Suspect and Alien Isolation. Surely my real-life friends would leap at these (I know. I don't learn quickly)? I didn't make the same effort I did the previous time. The names were WhatsApp'ed (is that a verb? Should be) to them. They each asked for a title again. So at least that was faster than before. However, did I get a thank you? Barely. The friend who took one of the games had to be prompted to simply tell me if it activated successfully. (I knew it did. He activated it minutes after getting it.) I got a thank you three days later.

So what does that mean? Well, I don't think I'll be giving away much to my real-life friends anymore. If I give away a title on SteamGifts and I don't get a thank you, it's a random stranger on the Internet. So I'm afraid that if I have extra cash or keys from bundles or both, I'll be unloading them here. On you. Sorry. :)

Thank you for sitting through my story. As a reward, here's a little something. If you win, I would appreciate a thank you. I really dislike it if someone wins and does not activate the key, so please activate. You do not have to say thanks for each game you enter, but if you do enter something, I'd like a bump. :)

Here's hoping this is the start of a beautiful friendship. Or something.

I had a similar reason as you, I was giving all my spare keys to my brother, but it never seemed like he really appreciated it. There were some really nice games, but he never plays any of them :(

I then started giving out keys on a computer forum I'm a member of, where they had a thread for spare keys. Someone gave away their spare keys through Steamgifts and linked through the forum and encouraged us to join. It wasn't any games I was interested in, but I remembered the name of the site and checked it out a while later and started giving away some games... now I'm a casual gifter here ;)

I don't remember. It was a long time ago, a friend told me about the page and I joined, of course, attracted by the idea of free games. However, I did not win anything and I stopped visiting it soon afterwards. And that was it until... last November I think, when I suddenly remembered about it. And now I'm beginning to understand the philosophy of the site. :)

I joined the SG just for the "Free" Dwarfs!? key, then i gave a random key i had, got lvl 1, i slowly started winning, started feeling bad for not giving anything back to the community, started eventually making GAs. So, here i am.

Waiting for my cake day.

I was told to join a SG group in the forum I usually haunt (since 2001 eek)
Got a few bundles and made some GAs.
Won a few group GAs too.
And so the addiction began. Sometimes it's as if it's not the game per se, it's the winning a game at all that matters :/

Concerning RL people you give keys to: Yeah, they take ages to activate and don't give feedback. Unknown people on the net can be nicer ;)

initially it was cause i wanted a DLC for a game and at the time i could afford it, so google results brought me here. DLC i wanted was not being given away so i left and didnt return for another year...

1year later i bought several winter sales gifts, remembered this site, and decided to return and start doing a few GA's and start entering into stuff... 1month after that i discovered bundles... been giving and winning ever since :D

I joined because I'm poor and wanted free stuff.
Since then, I've given away more free stuff that I've won (but my won stuff is better quality, so I don't complain).

First, I was like "Freeeeeee Games!"
but, now, i think it's more of a forum to me. I mean I go to the puzzles section with all that riddles and stuff to solve, then in the general to see what up lately, and people asking questions and such. Then, if I see a nice GA with a game that i really want, I join. :D
I now get it that SG is more of a community than a "faceless" give and take site.

You feel me bruh?

It was probably because of the whole "AY ITS FREE!" Aspect :O but I enjoy giving away now and then, when my wallet allows me! Too bad my giveaways are region restricted, so many cool people I'd like to whitelist :(

I had multiple extra keys for some games and my friends either had them or didn't want them, so I ended up here.

As it turns out my first giveaway was for Torchlight 2 which one of my friends decided to buy last week.

I randomly stumbled across this website about a month ago when I wanted to join a giveaway in one of the steamgroups I belong to, totally forgot about it after that.

And since this week I somehow stumbled across the website again, and figured it's a perfect way to get rid of double steamkeys I got from bundles/buying cheap 10 steam key lottery things, etc.

I never really expect to win anything, but I'm just joining the giveaways for games that somehow grab my interest... If Idon't win, nothing lost. If I do win, yay! A nice surprise ^^.

Hm... I got here by accident ^^" Didn't know what this is all about (at first when I saw the 300 points I was like: "Oh... They want me to pay for those, don't they? ><" suspicious mode on), but I've read FAQ, then won my first giveaway and then... Started reading forums and wanted to be part of this community. I still give games to my friends, they are not ungrateful, often they are the one sharing with me, but this community is important and I want to give something from myself.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented here and in the giveaways. I read every story and I really appreciate your input. For everyone who entered, good luck and I hope you win! I'll do another one of these soon, if and when the finances allow.

Giveaway finished (except for the one I started late and ended late). Congratulations to all the winners. My appreciation to the guys who already activated and said thanks moments after I send the keys. You've been whitelisted.

Thanks again to everyone for participating in the discussion. I hope to do another soon enough. Maybe with a little show of gratitude to the blue heart club too. :)
