Even though it was a joke, I quite like your pick. It's one of the types of games that I play when I'm depressed and need something engaging to get my mind off of things. Haven't played it in years, sadly.
Though I would not recommend it to anyone else who is dealing with depression, especially if theirs is linked to one of the subjects covered in this game. It would most likely make it worse.

I played through the entire story of faerie solitaire when I was in a bad place in the past. It's like a "pretty princess girly" game, it's just about faeries so don't let that drive you away. I usually put music on in the background and just play FS for hours.

Ought to try Lucid as well, I found that pretty relaxing, both with the visuals and the music. It's a puzzler, fairly simple but it does get a bit difficult once you get a bit further.

Counter Strike, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and anything that has to do with killing human beings makes me soooooo happy! <3 <3 <3
Edit: Don't forget CoD, Age of Empires (destroying civilizations... What's better?) and Total War... <3 GTA OF COURSE!

4 Video Games That Help You Understand And Deal With Your Depression

If it were a movie, it'd be Donnie Darko. Don't know why. But for games..... I'd say a game like Journey or Minecraft. The simplicity but with a goal type gameplay let's me enter a world where everything is actually so empty....it's blissful..... true, there's often not a whole lot going on... but there's little to depress. A game world where the being on screen has a life set before it that is directed to almost being mundane....that's where I'll be. It's like being a creature of this planet with even fewer goals. Ants live to die, and yet can they even get depressed?

Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies. Fucked my head when I was a kid though. If people ask why I'm so fucked up I just need to think up on the movies I saw when I was in my early tens.
And ants have no conscience. It's somewhat of a blessing.

NEVER play Mirror's Edge when depressed, it will make you jump off a building and die.

Screw gaming, and I'm beeing completly honest right now, and go watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (here's entire season one for you ;) I'm sure you'll handle getting seasons two and three on your own).
This will help for sure! Give it a try!

So, I'm kinda going through a hard time and it isn't even a good time to get a shrink or a therapist or whatever. So I'm stuck at rambling with friends, watching random movies and series, screaming randomly at walls... and of course, playing videogames.
Now. I wanted to know what YOU guys play when you are depressed, personally, I play Beat Hazard or Audiosurf. Specially Audiosurf, since I can play that with only one hand, and just looking at the screen while I dwell in self-pity.
And I know everyone deals with it differently. Like, some prefer happy games, some during that time prefer to be stabbed than play those same games and prefer games that are equally as depressed as them to remind them that they are not alone in this moment. There's people in as much misery or more than them. And I have to admit I am more of the second kind, but for the sake of this topic, go with whichever, but I'd like if you could explain why it helps you in particular.
