What's your favorite horror game of all times and why?

You've gifted more games than received (there can be exceptions to this rule).
You've created at least one giveaway during the last 3 months.
You're minimum level 5.

Hey, welcome back! I also recently started using Steamgifts again after being away for over a decade and I do remember you! We actually had some beef back then and I even had you on my blacklist, don't know if you remember. I don't remember the details but you do seem nice and it was a loooong time ago, so I also put you on my whitelist now! (even if you won't put me on yours, that would be fine and understandable).

My favorite horror game is Alien Isolation, I love the movies and that game perfectly captures the feeling of being stuck in space with that nasty alien. Also a big fan of most of the Resident Evil games, we really get a lot of nice horror games currently (and a lot of low budget trash to be fair).

Cheers!

Welcome to my WL :)

It's nice to see some people from back in the day still active! Most are not, unfortunately.

We did have a beef? Wow, do you remember what was it about? For the life of me, I don't :)

Alien: Isolation is amazing, same goes for RE games - love them!

Thanks for whitelisting me, appreciate it.
Yeah, I also noticed that most of the old people are gone now.
And for our "beef", I just noticed it when I went through some old SG discussions. I had you blacklisted for some reason and we had some discussions about that but I don't know the details anymore :D But that's over a decade ago, so whatever.

I’d pick Silent Hill 2 for its deep psychological horror and emotional storytelling. The foggy town and unsettling sound design create an oppressive atmosphere, while monsters like Pyramid Head used to traumatize me to no end. It’s not just scary, it’s thought-provoking and unforgettable for me.

I'm not sure if I can choose a single favorite. There are so many great ones. Silent Hill for the eerie atmosphere and the weird creatures, Resident Evil 2 for the tropes and the scares, F.E.A.R. for the action and the immersive combat within a horror setting. They all impressed me back then. Soma and Alien isolation are pretty awesome as well, to name just a few. I really can't decide.

I still have it on a CD (or was it DVD at that point?) somewhere and I think on Steam as well (the remaster if I recall) - I need to finally play it!

Thank you! And I still have it on DVD too somewhere buried deep into my old PC remnants and the remaster on Steam as well. Everybody should play every Quantic Dream game, horror or not in their life once. They are a true spectacle.

i gotta go with resident evil: director's cut on ps1. i can literally remember begging my mom to buy it for me while at walmart. it was my first true horror game (as i'm sure it was for many others). i don't think i did ever beat it until years later, but that didn't stop me from loving it.

also, it came with a demo disc (i miss those) for resident evil 2. iirc, you could play leon's story up until like 30 minutes or so into the police station.

no telling if i'd love horror games as much as i do if it hadn't been for that game.

My favorite horror game is SOMA - it's a great combination of interesting story and horror/suspense, and the final of game are mindblowing, strong 10/10 game =)
Also Amnesia game series are great horrors and deserve to be played ;)

If psychological horror counts, then either SOMA or Doki Doki Literature Club. But I really liked the "classical horror" vibes from Song of Horror and The Last Door.

I am not a big fan of horror so mine might not be that scary but I really like Subnautica and Deep Rock Galactic. DRG isn't as scary since it's coop but going solo into deep caves in Subnautica has it's own fear.

I haven’t played many horror games, but I loved Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 despite being terrified of it. I remember having to take breaks to calm down when the game became too intense. Especially the regenerators were pure nightmare fuel. At the same time, they were also one of my favourite enemy designs—I loved how creative and terrifying they were. Just hearing their sound alone was enough to get the adrenaline pumping. Besides that, everything in the game, from Leon's cheesy one liners, to the briefcase inventory management (that at times felt like its own minigame), to the general athmosphere of the game, all was so much fun.

I recently got the game on Steam and replayed it, and I loved it just as much as I did back then. It wasn’t as terrifying as I remembered, but that might be partly because I knew what to expect.

id like to join if still open,
Alien Isolation probably tops my list for horror games as far as actually scaring the crap out of me from just gameplay... more recently i finished Paranormal activity the lost soul on VR and that was actually pretty scary, seeing things change in the house and hearing weird noises etc.. might just be the novelty of it being in vr but it stands out to me, The Mortuary Assistant was also a really scary game i finished recently really messed with my head seeing things in the background and the voices etc plus anything dealing with corpses already has a Nope factor for me..

Hello!
My favorite horror game of all time has to be Silent Hill. The atmosphere in that game is just next-level creepy – the fog, the music, and that constant feeling of being watched really get under your skin. And let’s not forget Pyramid Head – that dude is pure nightmare fuel!

I'd say Alien Isolation is my favorite horror game, but a close second is RE: Village.
Also my all time fav is The Last of Us Part One, but even though it's falling into the horror category, I wouldn't say it is one.

Hi! my favorite horror game is Stray. Horror is not really a type I'm into that much, but I filtered my games by horror tag and apparently Stray has it, and I love Stray <3
From my more recent ones, Murky Divers is one I've been playing a lot with friends, and fits the horror tag a bit more ^^

Dying Light 1. Can be pretty scary at night. For some reason, the Following DLC never checked those boxes that i liked about the main game. Maybe it was because of the open landscape and that you are forced to drive most of the time
