We're seeing a lot of complaints in support about people spamming comments multiple times. This seems to be linked to Chrome re-submitting comments when one refreshes a page after posting a comment. If you use Chrome, make sure you do something like click the thread title, giveaway comments link, etc. after making a comment if you're going to be refreshing the page. Likewise, it would be good etiquette to delete such duplicate comments if you do make a mistake. Thank you.

You are spamming, but the good thing is that I can see more of that avatar on a singe page..

This is not exclusive in chrome. This also happens in my Android tablet if I refresh the page after I just posted something. Its not always though, can't track the main reason why opera mobile do these but I suspect intermittent wifi connection in my univ

Also I bet a lot of this happened because of the recent loading issues with the site. One could post a comment, then get a page loading error, then try to refresh to get the page to load again and then it instead posts the comment again.

The website should probably just reject duplicate comments submitted by the same person to the same thread within a certain period of time. Or have some sort of unique ID that is sent to the user when the page is loaded and sent back to the server when the user submits a comment, so resubmissions with the same ID would be rejected.

Just saying, it shouldn't be too hard to prevent repeats. Plenty of websites have this figured out already.

Whenever I notice I've accidentally double posted I make sure to delete the double right away. I actually start to panic and worry it'll irritate people in the whole 10 seconds it's there (although it's only happened...maybe 5 times or something).

It's not that hard to delete then and people don't need to pitch such a fit when they see them. 99% of the time they're accidental.

What happens a lot is when I'm using steamgifts on mobile I'll comment and then close the browser. When I reopen it, it will post again.

Yep, I've noticed if I comment on a giveaway first and then submit my entry, using the back button will prompt me for resubmission. There is no cancel button. If you simply click on the address bar of the browser and click enter, it will reload the page without trying to resubmit your comment.

You are correct, this is related to refreshing a page. Chrome assumes that we wish to resubmit our form data, which is our submitted comment.

I avoid this by clicking in the address bar and pressing ENTER to bypass form data.

Chrome is making an odd assumption. Why would we want to resubmit form data from the following page, especially when doing so usually results in something bad like multiple payment charges or inadvertent spam.

Other browsers do this at times, too. Any time you are warned about resubmittal of form data, look out. It's why we have been warned not to use the Back button on our browsers for more than fifteen years.

Odd. I use Chrome and it always asks me if I want to resubmit, it is never automatic.

This should be solved serverside. You now do a POST-request directly to the same page. So if a user reloads the page, the same data will be send and a new post will be posted. Instead of that, after the POST-request has been handled do a header relocation. I don't know which language is used, but in PHP you can do it like this.

Yea, it asks if you wish to re-submit the form data. Simply hitting 'enter' or clicking OK will resubmit the comment. I have never had it do it automatically for me, and never should be automatically done by Chrome if you ask me.

This is the message... And BE WARNED, if you get this during any online purchase (especially after you have clicked the confirm purchase button), DO NOT CLICK OK or ENTER unless you want 2 of whatever you purchase!
