I have never seen a major website change that didn't get hate from at least half of the users. I think it's human nature to complain. lol.

Steam's new library isn't terrible. It'll take some getting used to is all.

IMO its since most modern UI designers have this weird obsession with giant sizes and flashiness with no functionality. And its everywhere. So if you replace something old with something these new ones deem "better".

Take EGS for example. Opening a game on their site 90% is a giant screenshot you need to scroll past to have ANY functionality whatsoever. Who thought that was a good idea, who thought works fine?

The worst one I've seen is Alienware Arena. I'm a designer myself, and I absolutely hate it. Usability is terrible and I have literally given up going to the site, not out of anger or anything, but because I can't be bothered navigating that mess.

But... I've seen people go absolutely apeshit over a switch from vBulletin 4 to Xenforo some years ago. There were very little differences cosmetically and the BB codes were exactly the same. Okay, those people were much less than half of the entire community, but it was like... WHAT? I do think that no matter what you do, there will be a number of complaints. People hate change. (In that case, an update to vB5 would have been a vast change. Xenforo was developed by the people who worked on vB4 and didn't like the direction of vB5. We all agreed with the site owner's assessment. lol.)

I agree with you that there are some cases where the complaints are warranted, but I have found from running websites that in every instance of change, even small changes that improve useability a few people will kick up a storm. They're generally a minority, but they are there. lol.

Maybe so. HOWEVER, I don't want a huge chunk taken out of my RAM just to support "features" that I neither want nor for the most part even use. The features I do want already were available through Tabs.

AND Steam removed a feature that I did use regularly ... Screenshot Uploader no longer pops up upon exiting a game if Screenshots were taken. Now it is hard to Upload screenies.

BTW, Steam also eliminated about 80% of my game "Categories". This extraordinary "Feature" will force me to have to RE-categorize my whole list of over 800 games. Many games had been placed in multiple categories. I suppose I should consider myself fortunate that my list isn't in the thousands.

There should be an "Opt Out" choice as there is for the BIG Picture.

Perhaps that's something to bring up with Steam though. That could be something they missed and not a deliberate omission. I don't use the feature, but if I did, I'd make the complaint/suggestion.

I agree but to be fair to the other half of users, I only use the client for organizing the library's list of games show on the left side of the client, so I actually like the library update.
I also tend to use a separate browser for everything else Steam store/community related because I use browser extensions like Augmented Steam.

If I used the Steam client for anything more than that, I can understand griping.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either when I made my post. I was thinking "this is an inconvenience." As with all new things, I get a wee bit disgruntled at having to learn how something works all over again. Now I actually like it and think it's better than the old library. :D

I just use the plain old client myself, no add-ons. But, I do understand that there are features that not everyone uses and if those get changed or removed somehow, people get mad. I think in those cases it's best not to go "I hate it, change it back" but instead "can we have this or this?" They are more likely to listen and implement the things people want, especually if more people get behind your suggestion. No one listens to mega angry people. When someone is shouting at you, you tend to drown it out to save your sanity and listen to the calm or at least seemingly calm ones. Hehe!

i hate it, the new game info page is awful...i don*t care about the "activity feed" and "playing friends"..so when i open my library is see all information i dont care about and only when i scroll down i see infos like community hub and workshop... the old interface was better...one site all the info i needed.

TLTR: I don*t care about social media activity i want infos about the game.

I'll be fine with it once they fix a few problems. I used grid view before, and it had a slider to make the game images the size I needed them to be. Now it just has the option for small, med or large, and none of those are the right size. I hate that they removed features, options and functionality.

I HATE the forced What's New. They need to make it a shelf, so I can delete it if I don't want it, or move it down if I don't want it on top. This is just them forcing stuff down my throat. If I wanted to look at the community stuff, I would go to the community tab.

Also, when I delete shelves, they just come back when I reopen steam. Pretty sure that's just a bug. Otherwise, why give us the ability to delete shelves at all?

Overall, they removed peoples options. They had many views before, and people could choose what they liked best. Now there is only one. Why would they ever think that was ok to do to people? Everyone has different tastes. Some like simple or utilitarian, some like flashy and so on. Forcing everyone to use one single style is going to piss off more than it pleases, no matter what style they had gone for.

Then throw in that they also removed so many features people were actively using, and I just don't understand how they thought that was the right choice to make in a million years. Were they high on their own farts?

Steam also eliminated the auto-pop-up of the Screenshot Uploader upon exiting from a game if screenies were taken.

Also, they destroyed about 80% of my game "Categories".
Now I must go through over 800 games to RE-categorixe them.

Used the new library for 15 minutes, realised how laggy and bloated it is and then reverted back to the old one.

All that is gold does not glitter
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes, a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

All that is gold does not glitter

And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

So shooting stars are made out of something glittery that is not gold. But all that is gold does not glitter, so there is a chance that the shooting stars are made out of non-glittery gold, yay! But then all that glitters is gold, so we have a potential paradox here!
Shrek does not have a crown so he'll be king, just like in the movies. It was about him all along

Those unwanted graphical thumbnail images bring my network activity to a halt while Steam is "updating" the library with the downloading of those. Grr...

My Library updated yesterday. SOOO wasteful of RAM space. Visually displeasing.
I don't need huge pictures OR an overload of history and everything remotely related to each game I want to use.
This HAS to be a massive waste of MY RAM each time I look at a game.

When Steam brought out the UI Beta, I rejected it right away.
It is visually cluttered and makes Library use more difficult.
Now the Screenshot Uploader does not come up when I exit a game.
AND it now is hard to get to that Uploader :lunar2019scowlingpig: ... I hate that Feature loss.
I have seen what the Beta UI has to offer, and it just doesn't interest me ...
I don't want the features in the new Library UI.
The OLD UI had those same features already through TABs !
I don't want to HAVE to "get used" to it as suggested by some who like it. ːlunar2019scowlingpigː
I am literate and DO NOT NEED big pictures to help me.
I also do not need to have MORE RAM eaten up by Steamclient.

I tried Steam's "Big Picture" {or whatever} when it was introduced ... ONCE !!
Never went back to it. It was too visually displeasing.

Big Pictures ==> Reduced information ːlunar2019scowlingpigː

The difference is ... BIG Picture is OPTIONAL !! The new UI is NOT Optional.

Steam's new announcement starts with:
"Starting today, the new Steam Library features are available to everyone."

Interestingly {?}, Steam uses the word "available" which implies there is an option ??
SO ... WHERE is that option ??
I guess I can summarize the results of the poll now:

with over 1100 votes, a small majority (52%) sees the new library negative.

The ppl that actually LOVE the new library are the smallest group of the 4 possible answers.

Thank you everybody for voting and commenting!

the majority almost never want changes... you might want to make a new poll in a few years when the new look is polished and the Bugs might be less and its less "new"

The library isn't so bad. The only trouble is that slower PC.
Why is it so big in memory ad so few optimised?
It's the same trouble for lot of games. Take a look to the files that are in 2 exemplary.
Why is it happening?

I feel uneasy looking at new library. The way it shows all the information makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason.
Being able to switch to old one would be nice. (in official way, like a switch in settings)

Advice for all (happy or not) beta testers: JOIN the BETA branch! They actually try to fix those 1000s of bugs and update very often now. A lot of serious problems for me have been fixed during this week!

I'm normally the type that has a hard time adjusting to change so when I heard about the library update I was hesitant. Then that leak happened a few months before it officially came out and I decided to start using it so that when it did get released I would already be through the adjustment phase. That plan worked for me and I have already gotten used to it and think its a great addition to the old library. I know myself well enough that I know I would hate it purely because it was a change had I not forced myself to get used to it before it came out.
