Do you feel the same way?
For me, that is all Valve games except Half-Life 1 and every Blizzard game (no exception). Portal was good as a meme source though, I guess, plus they managed to make some pretty clever levels out of the "borrowed" formula. (And I guess we are out of actual Valve games, since they made two sequels for HL and Portal and, erm… reskinned a bunch of games other people made, and sell now them as their own.)

VALVE RE-MADE IT's engine since it's limited AND Icefrog was sued by BlizzTards for ownership and the blizzTards lost :) ^_^ funny,when he wanted their help they didnt give it,sort of like George Lucas with the special effects companies before making Star Wars Episode 4 :)
VALVE BROUGHT GAMING TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL, MORESO than Starcraft 1 :)
This year DotA 2 awards in prizes :) will be expected to be more than TENNIS prizes $$$ so...give it some credit :D
AND THey want to teach it in schools since it's more advanced than Chess :) and more interactive etc.

Thanks., I knew the concept was from others, I saw it as early as in a 2D game called Professor Fizzwizzle. I just never found the original 3D it was based on or knew it was this much of a reuse that they even got the same people doing it. :)

+1, I like small games too even if they are "crap". It's always at least a small thing to try, and sometimes you have nice surprises.

Is it really that much worse than it was five years ago? They opened it upto the masses so instead of the shittier games coming from bad studios they now also come from bad indie developers. The Valve putting money over making cool stuff ship sailed long ago.

Yes. Because now we have the extra fucktons of shovelware that is slapped together as cheaply as possible to fuel the cardz farming industry. That pretty much only has the requirement that you have an executable that runs for a few hours without crashing. Then card farmers do their idling, sell their cards, devs take a cut, Valve takes a cut.
Then, devs can hand out a few thousand keys for free on sites like this one at little to no financial loss. (Because there's enough ffree/cheap SDKs around like ClickTeam Fusion, old versions of RPGmaker, GameGuru, GameMaker etc. that making a few hundred bucks on your first card-carrier already covers the costs easily.)
Meanwhile, devs looking to build and publish actual playable games get washed off the storefront, so they better should do their best to promote their games via other channels.

I kinda agree and disagree tbh .
Yeah there is tons of shit being pushed on steam on a daily basis , but in the same time there are some really nice games that get in among all the trash , which would probably not made the cut otherwise .
I just add anything that seems good and i think i may play to my wishlist , and just browse that .
Yeah i may skip something thats on the main page and its actually good , but i just cannot be asked to browse trough pages and pages of whats currently in a bundle .
And i have way to much free time when im supposed to be working , so i tend to dedicate some time browsing recent releases and categories i am interested in , so my wishlist consist of pretty much most stuff on steam that i consider good for one reason or another .
Thats just me tho :)

Well, I have only been on SG for a month now so I can't compare, but honestly I appreciate that Steam has become a place for all games and doesn't just handpick certain games to go on their site. Also, you never know if there's just the right crap for you.
When it comes to SteamGifts, I usually go to the wishlist section first and then spend the rest of my points kn whatever pops up on the frontpage. As I said I can't speak of the past experience, but isn't it amazing to find an awesome game amongst the horde of shitty games giveaways?

When you walk into a supermarket, it's full of terrible products they tend to label as "food". Fortunately there are good ones as well, and you have the option of selecting those.
Same goes with steam: there terrible games and very good ones. You don't have to be a collection addict, just get the ones you like and you'll likely play with in the future.
Plus there are games that are underrated, so don't always fall for the opinion of the masses (even though most of the time they are right ;))

They have plenty of junk food, but anything that's deemed "not fit for purpose" tends to either quickly get taken off the shelves, or never get on the shelves. Most stores do a good bit of curation and won't let any old crap get on their shelves.

You have it wrong.
There was always crap on steam (like for example http://store.steampowered.com/app/19500/ )...the only difference to long ago (like the game i linked and came out almost 9 years ago) is that those indie devs does not need a publisher anymore (which was almost always the case years ago...as it was easier to get on steam with one)....and of course years ago indiedevs where a lot less then nowadays....so even if steam would have made stuff like greenlight etc. 10 years ago already, the gamecount would not have been the same as now.

Although the amount of shovelware has gone up a lot with both greenlight AND the vast amount of bundle sites out there there is the occasional "gem" coming through.
As for SG there is a number of tools you can use to tailor the site to your preferences, from the different filters(wishlist, group, recommended) and the Hide function to the countless userscripts you can find in the forums.

More like: Valve ruined Steam, Steam Gifts is a collateral victim. Greenlight is a literal double-edged sword:
But who is the main culprit? Greenlight for being so easily exploitable? Valve for not doing quality control? Or the users who upvote trash?
The system itself is a good addition to Steam, but the way it's being operated is less than optimal.
And sometimes it makes me regret having the Greenlight Developer Access fee really high in my wishlist, as I fear that if, and when, I'll eventually try to release a game, getting it Greenlit will be really hard, unlike those shovelware titles who just need to have cards to succeed.

I quit Steamgifts some years ago and recently came back to check it out. And realized that the steam update that gave developers free access to upload any game ect lowered steam games over all quality and kinda ruins some of the Steamgifts experience. Scrolling through Steam Store or Steamgifts Isn't as pleasant as it used to be lots of things that should yet ain't filtered, often thinking (Why is this even on steam).
