I been trying to run all my giveaways as 1 hour, so that there would usually be under 500 people in the giveaway, or sometimes under 300. I like to see people have a good chance of winning.

People who are active on the site, and keep hitting their browser refresh button, will catch these fast giveaways and join them. While people who are less active on the site, will not even catch the 1 hour giveaways. So I think the 1 hour giveaways support the most active people on the site, and give something to the most active members.

I like to hear other people's opinions on the subject. What do other people here think about 1 hour giveaways?

I agree! I like fast 1 hour giveaways better. although if I'm giving away something big like an AAA title I'd set it at LEAST for a day.

I don't think giveaways need to last more than a week at maximum really. Even that's pushing it. If you're gifting something, it seems fair to expect that you can supply it right away. And when it's available for a long time, sometimes thousands of people can enter, which lowers the odds for everyone. I think an hour to a day is the optimum length.

They're ok. But keep in mind that you're rewarding not so much active people as those in your timezone.

That's true, but unless it's a AAA title, I don't think it's a big problem. The majority of games garnering thousands of entries are major releases, and ones that are still expensive or new at the time of the giveaway. As long as these are given a longer time such as a day, the rest are minor losses for people in a different time zone.

1Hour giveaways > All others

Only positives here: others got higher chances to win game, are rewarded for being active on site, also private 1hour are great option for people that look at forum.

And someone can tell that you can't get many people outside your timezone - personally i don't care. All can win if are active, at 3-4am here there are almost none of 1-hour giveaways created compared to like 3-4pm. I can't get few chances, but others can, and vice versa. There is no only 1 region at that site. Most of 1 hour are created in time not viable for me for example, when im in work, or outside, because it's working time here, and afterwork on other regions with higher population. So no, nothing wrong really.

On other side i HATE long giveaways. They do nothing to active ppl really. Also, for today "giveaway of the day" we got 162 copies of Fortix. Im curious for how long? 3 days? 5? week? Should be 24 hours at max. So semi-active people can get a major chance to win that awesome (yes it is) game. I can login every 2 days or so and bid only long giveaways, also can get lucky and bet of few 1/2 hours. But active users should get higher viability as reward.

The shorter the better. I hate throwing my points away on long giveaways that everyone and their dog entered already.
Also, a reasonably high contribution requirement is welcome. You see people making giveaways with a required contribution of $0.01-10-20-30, as if that's going to make a difference. Anyone can get to $30 by spending just $1 on a bundle. Make it at least $30.01 if you want to make it for contributors, although with the latest Humble THQ "Sale", even that means nothing.

If a giveaway has 1000+ people i don't enter even if i want that particular game.Of course there are some allowances. As for 1hr giveaways, love them when I'm here, hate them when I'm not. :P

Yeah, I usually don't enter the 1000+ people giveaways too. The odds are too poor. The only time I enter one, is if its a game that isn't given that often, then I will enter a 1000 person giveaway.

But I look at this way, if you join giveaways with 500 or less people, then you have twice the odds of winning, over joining a giveaway with 1000 people. And I don't even think about joining the giveaways with 3000, 4000 or higher people. Unless it is a multiple item giveaway.

Prettymuch the same opinion as the other folks in this thread on this. I love it when I manage to catch them and its a game I want, less so when it happens while I'm asleep. Then again, if I'm asleep during that time, I will never know about the giveaway unless someone were to tell me afterwards. ;)

As an entrant, I LOVE 1-hour giveaways, so please keep them coming. :) I feel so fortuitous whenever I catch one. And, I'm not at all concerned about all of the ones I'm missing whenever I'm off-site.

I made 2 giveaways until now, both 1 hour give those guys even higher chances to win. :)

I'm planning to make 1 giveaway/month in the future, but I'm already sure, all will be 1 hour giveaways, maybe some 1 hour puzzles, for even better chances. :)
