Not necessarily my favorite, but Spec Ops: The Line was awesome.

Shadow Heart 1 and 2. Story is placed near World War I.
They are ones of the wery few representative of jrpg games that are not just another colorful and boring fantasy.
The only flaw (only for some people) would be that this game is too much Japanase. I mean.... weird but in good way :D

i did enjoy World at war as a fun world war II game
im sure theres others but nothings popping into my head but sorry for not knowing a single fav off the top of my head
