Description

So, this game has been out for nearly two years. It has decent reviews. It is available at a number of stores. Yet only one group-locked giveaway has ever been created for it.

Like, seriously, what the hell, SteamGifts? 🤨 We cannot be so far up in the ass with cheap one-dollar asset flip fake games that at least someone cannot spend a dollar and a half to post some half-decent indie games once in a while for the general public.

At any rate, since Humble released a board game adaptation bundle yesterday, I just felt it is more than appropriate to throw this one up, it being a board game adaptation as well. Since evidently I just became that "someone".

(As a side note for the entry numbers I saw after doing a quick edit after it started: holy hell, the botting is sometimes really real.)

Thanks for being the 'someone' at least. :)

I get the feeling sometimes you don't really like it here (SG), for reasons you are more or less vocal about, and for reasons I don't necessarily disagree with you on (though maybe I don't see it as bad as you do?). Am I reading you wrong? Are there just enough other positive reasons to counter the negative that you stay?

Feel free to answer, or not. Either way, cheers.

Currently my plans should last me on this site until around the beginning of 2020. I am stupid enough to include spending around 130 dollars on one single event in them a few months later, despite it being nearly 20 days worth of my food budget.

Of course, all of this does not mean that sometimes the user base does not annoy me. I am used to the rampant elitism of the forum-goers and the tens of thousands of greedy self-centric jerks who treat the site like a free cookie jar with no strings or basic human ethics attached ("it is free, therefore I take it for the principle of taking it"), but right now the fact that an alarmingly few people on the gifters' side remember that this site is called 'Steam fucking Gifts' and it should carry a "gifting" aspect (which does not equal a small-group circle-trading or pretending SG is an easier version of gleam.io to drop thousands of fake game keys) irks me more than all those bot farmers.

Just take the community wishlist. An alarming percentage of the giveaways made for the top 30 fall into one of these:

  • An eventually fake giveaway advertising some scam group or the poster's social shit. They also happen to make a large chunk or even the entirety of the public giveaways of the game.
  • A Russia-locked giveaway for CV farming.
  • A China-locked giveaway for CV farming and to brag about being the first with the game.
  • Something for a small group or a few groups only.
  • Private giveaway that was not posted on the forums of SG.

The best versions are probably those that are posted here in the form of a puzzle. Even those are rare though. It is like people forgot that this site is about raffles and substituted it with "yes, random winners, as long as I can tell precisely who those are". (As a side note, this is why I generally do not like whitelist as a feature, even if I really-really can agree with the intention that implemented it.)

I really really like that boardgame. And honestly i think it wont work as nice without ogling each other finding out what moves they plan..
so i restrain from entering, but if you have a bunch of friends, pick up that game and have a nice evening! its really worth it!!!
and thank you talgaby to still punish yourself with this site ;)
i dont get why it is so hard to stop botting... but kudos that you still make unrestricted giveaways. i myself like the idea of small easy puzzles/jigidys. so that you at least have some effort to join. and if that is not worth your time.. you probably wont enjoy the game either :)

Not sure about your region, but the lowest I see it having gone in USD is $2.10. That said, that's low enough, and I'm a bit surprised that I didn't notice it going on sale last winter (given how low it went, my favoring giving away indie games, and my having it [highly] wishlisted), somehow I completely missed that. Then again, I was moving around then, so I wasn't exactly too attentive to little details. Still odd, given that I made sure to look through wishlisted games that went under $5, and I know for sure I didn't see this there. I guess, being Steam, it's always possible that it bugged on me [or perhaps I only checked the list too early on, before it had fully updated?].

In any case, appreciate the chance and the reminder to keep an eye on this one for next winter sale. ^.^

Thank you for doing these things for the community.
It's nice of you. I wish more people would be the same.
I can only afford mostly bundled games for now, but maybe in the future when I have a full time job, it can shift away from that.

To my mind talgaby is a sg purist,
someone who act out of pure naturalness of this given fact that, sharing is caring, about the community
and that not soley for an exclusive group but as for the main purpose of this site and all of its users equal to their level.

And that said, without being limited to bundled or cheap stuff, without cv farming or bot leveling toughts or advertising reasons.

Also for me, he is a heavy reminder, maybe to us all whom cares even a bit about this site, that giving should not be limited to some SG+ members, either defined by any personal perspectives, nor due their indivdiual beeings, just plain to them all , even to a regular sg member, who in best case, cling to the given sg rules.

I cant praise his honest effords, strenght & courage enough, for being that kind of open up and straight forward to us all, without loosing the cynical sense too much. Sure some may not underline that but for me it is a knocker and I cant blame him to act like that.

Blaming myself, not having spend much into the publicmasses, only because of the fear of letting a game get into hands of a so called, not worthy user, and the lot of work that it got connected with.

He does not give blindfooled, always with prayers, with words which hammer right into the sinfull heads of ours.
But it´s exactly those words, that reminds us, what this site was some time ago and what happend with those who just leeched, idle or whatever.

Well the gamingscene, or the whole gamingculture & developers, if not russian asset flippers, seemed to have changed alot since than
We can´t blame the youth for being the "pubg fortnite cs:go lol dota" driven players, who inbetween their matches, earn some credits with somekinda "lvl up" bot system and idlefarms for money to buy ingame skins noone needs, but which you can sell, if any worthy, for real cash on shady websites.

That is the new gaming world you get into, DLC´s Microtransaction and being toxic in any multiplayer is the new must to have a stand.

Luckily we have him, who´s teaching us not only to praise the oldtimes, but standing up front everytime and battle these downfalls with doing what we all did in those early days, to just share those gifts with all of us. Showing those youngsters and leechers the rightful way. And that we won´t hide in the groups, behind cv´s, or stats of gratitude anymore. He does not blame us for doing so, but for me it is finally time to back him up.

I won´t shiver anymore, letting him shine alone on the frontline, I will grab this call and give this community another pillar to stand on.
Maybe I will drown, while I try to dive into this swamp and looking for the gems, dragged down by the lot of seaweed that lurks around there.

But on the other side who cares about what I was texting in here, or I got wrong!? Who Knows, but starting on today , at least weekly, I ill spend some gifts into the public. Maybe it is proving me wrong, that giving away in groups is the better way.

talgaby it´s your fault to recall onto that "pride"..
I thank you , keep up holding the light in the dark
my deepest respect

If there are some issues or spelling failures
I AM SORRY but at least I tried.

Weeeeell, my bundled CV ratio is like 70%. I spent quite the time in my first two years researching the cheapest way to level up, if you know what I mean.
Granted, there may have been 2300+ keys of nice hidden object games involved in there.

anyways, now is time to beat ur highest number of participating users for a public level 0 giveaway

This will nowhere near be that. Frostpunk got 16655 entries a little while ago. I could only top it with a significantly more expensive game, but I really do not have the money for that.

I feel like I haven't been on SG (or steam for that matter) long enough to properly grasp your frustration, but I appreciate your efforts no less. Most of my gibs are bundle related since I'm bundle-trash (okay I try to keep it low on the trash, but sometimes I get a trash bundle for one or two things inside and might as well give away the rest to people who might want that).

I dream that one day I can be financially irresponsible enough to give away something truly wild and amazing, but right now I've limited myself to bundle leftovers, as it were, thinking they'd be put to better use here than rotting on my steam account. (Dat backlog tho. Years of non-PC-gaming make me a bit too bundle-buy-happy at times.)

I'm not entering this GA but I'm glad I got curious about the comments and took a peek.
