So using this new Spring Cleaning event, I got to see what my first steam game I had was. And it wasn't what I thought it was.
So, as usual, I got to thinking. What was your first steam game?
Mine was Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. Game had SUCH potential, but the game breaking bugs killed it for me.

So, what was your first steam game?

Edit- Added a small GA for you all as thanks for making this the most successful topic I have ever made on SG.

I actually downloaded Steam just so I could play Skyrim (not the special edition either LOL). XD Still one of my favorites, also my gateway drug. XD No regrets. (Except my wallet and social life.) X"D

Same for me, I bought a boxed retail version and was furious I had to play it through steam.

I do have a few more hours on mine though... like 2100ish more hours.

I know right!?!?! I was like what is this BEEP I wanna play my game! (I'm now thoroughly addicted though. XD) Also, I promise Steam does not have an accurate record of either one of my Skyrim games because I have spent at LEAST a couple months of my life in Skyrim (normal and SE). I just freaking love that game.

Portal.

I remember it clearly, I installed it and it made me install Steam as well but the computer kept crashing every time I went through a portal so I uninstalled it but Steam kept sending me notifications and I thought for sure it was a virus and I distinctly remember hating Steam. Now here we are.

That's a good question and it's interesting to read people's answers. Thank you! :)

Saints Row 3. It's also my most expensive game.

I didn't realise it was a Steam game when I bought the boxed version. I got it home, tried to install it, and swore blue murder. I'd been avoiding Steam like the plague up until then.

It wasn't until a fair time later that I found my first bundle site and it's all been downhill from there. ;)

Seems like my first game on Steam is pretty unique (at least I didn't see anyone else mention it, when browsing through this thread), which is interesting, because I got it from Nvidia with some office video card (which in turn was part of a hardware bundle) ... mine was Torchlight.

Played it for a while, then forgot about Steam for a whole year until I made my first purchase (Tomb Raider).

That's a cool question.
Mine was "Half Life 2: Episode 1".

I actually bought in on a CD, but to my amazement, the CD did not contain the game :O
Instead, it contained an installation of a program called "Steam", and instructions to enter the CD-Key to get the game (and then wait for hours/days until the game downloaded.
All in all, it was a pretty bad experience, and it took me years to go back and start using Steam...

The Orange Box, in October of 2009. Didn't run very well on my sorry excuse of a computer.
Then the next one was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that I got with the GPU when I finally got myself a new computer in.. Julx 2010.
The flood came after two more years. So my first purchase on Steam is Arma 2: Combined Operations in November of 2012.

Half-Life 2.

I had to get a Steam account to play it even though I bought a physical copy. Then a while later I bought the Orange Box (also a physical copy) and forgot that I already had a Steam account, so I created a new one (I really didn't know much about Steam at that time), this is the account I still use today.

I have no idea how to access that original Steam account, as I have forgotten the password and the email associated with it no longer exists.

counter strike source. was a big thing, everybody hated it back then, because only 1.5 or 1.6 was THE REAL counterstrike to play.... we played thousands of hours with 1.5 on LAN. for cs source i have only a couple of hours on this account, was just not the same anymore ;)
