What's your favorite movie genre?
Damn. I kinda waited to see when a group for movie lovers will show up. However let me say I'm not a big series fan. (well few exceptions apply) Almost strictly a movie fan for at least ~15 years now... hmmm. I also have lists with genre recommendations in imdb for anyone interested in that sort of thing.
As for favorite genre I'd say that I pretty much love these (yes I cannot pick one):
Drama
Thriller
Sci-fi
Animation
Mystery
Crime
Film-Noir ( not mentioned in poll)
Also fantasy if done well enough. Not interested in south park, but I do love the idea of the group.
And
PS: Oscars are mostly overrated

Suggestion:
make a slight change to the rule so that monthly sharing can be started when there's at least 30-40 people in the group.
Mainly to avoid GAs that will get less than the 5 minimum entries. I mean it makes sense... Right?

He also didn't include black comedies. That's because parodies and black comedies belong in the comedy genre.

Well you remembered most so that's kinda ok. You forgot film-noir but that's natural since it's a genre strictly from the 30s-40s-50s. Many of the best crime and heist films actually still belong to that era of film-making imo.
But yeah you can never please everyone, that's a given in this area. Movies are so broad in genres. xD
Tags do not say much in the end. Drama for example is part of almost every single movie.

Have you seen 'Brick'? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393109/
It's great modern film-noir. Can't go wrong with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I would never make group giveaways. :/ But I can suggest you as many movies as you want. I used to have a blog about movies (in the Greek language though). My favorite kinds of movies are black comedies (and comedies in general) and sci-fi movies. :D I love classic movies with Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Terence Hill and Bud Spencer, etc. ;P I'm also a fan of the old Disney cartoons and cult horror films. But I can watch any kind of movies, even documentaries and musicals. ^_^ Anyway, if anyone wants a movie suggestion, you can comment under my comment. :P

giveaway within the next 24 hours
Got nothing on me right now...would you kindly save me a sit.
i watch mainly horror and exploitation movies, those are not necessarily my favorites i just find them easy to get into
Comment has been collapsed.
It's always hard to find good horror ones.... so true... Easier to find good stuff from 80s-90s though in that genre.

Watch 'Found'. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2149360/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
It will blow your mind how good a horror movie you can make for $7000.
If you enjoyed 'Found', then you must watch the kickstarter-funded 'Headless' - the movie that they all watch in 'Found'.

I am...changing those rules for now seems like a good idea

Count me in, pal! :D
"What's your favorite movie genre?" you ask. My answer is EVERYTHING. Ok, let's say almost everything instead. Anyway, it's easier for me to pick genres I don't like and I would have to pick both romances and musicals then, I really can't stand watching them. Not gonna join because I'm already in too many groups I feel I neglect lol. The choice is hard but I decided to go with thriller, nothing better than thriller/crime movies like Se7en, Saw and stuff like that. But I also love horror movies, dramas, action movies, adventure movies, mystery movies and so on. I like most genres to be honest and I love watching movies/tv shows in general.

Good idea for a group, although I don't watch as many movies as I did once upon a time.
My favorite genres would probably be historical/period drama, biopics, documentaries (especially history from the end of what we call Late Antiquity to the end of the Renaissance)fantasy(though the list is very short),science-fiction(almost as short),dark/satirical comedy, cult classics, indie films from the '80s and '90s and classic noir. I tend to prefer classic films in general.

Wow, that's really interesting choice. I haven't seen many historical movies actually. My favorite is probably Ben-Hur. Unfortunately it seems it's getting remake. :(
I'd be happy to have you aboard (plus it would be one step closer to reaching that magical 2 digit number of members :D)

My favorite is probably Ben-Hur. Unfortunately it seems it's getting remake. :(
Ugh, really? That's bad news, though hardly surprising given Hollywood these days.Although to be fair there have been several versions of Ben-Hur, and I assume you mean the Charlton Heston one.

Yep, it's great. I'll have to watch it again soon cause it's been a while.
And here's the 2016 one.

Feel free to ask me for suggestions any time, regarding that. Have seen my share of the lot for about half a decade. Then kinda stopped/halted since I think I've seen most of the good ones. Both movies and tv series that is. I rarely try any, any more.

This would be my ideal group, but I don't qualify.
I still need to watch The Revenant, Anomalisa, Son of Saul, and The Hateful Eight, but here are my favorite movies of last year: World of Tomorrow, Dheepan, The Lobster, Sicario, Beasts of No Nation, Steve Jobs, Room, Spotlight, When Marnie Was There, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
I haven't watched many shows but I did finish Erased this year and currently watching Better Call Saul and Lupin III Part 4.

Nice list of recent films. I'm still waiting for Anomalisa to come to our cinemas too (Love Kaufman scripts), and Dheepan is still on my watchlist.. Seen most of the rest.. Lobster and Room are underrated, liked them quite a lot. Steve Jobs was decent but imo had pace/direction issues, especially in first half. Overall, something seemed to be missing to make it a great film.

Nice idea, would love to talk with fellow movie lovers but sadly i lack the ratio thing by a lot, but wait for me a year or two and i am in :p
Also LISA is best game of 2014 <3

Not applying (0.9 ratio + I think real CV that shows you spend more than you received is less superficial if you must measure, but the whole aspect of counting is shallow in itself. Anyway, to each its own, there's no really right/wrong here).
But I support your initiative and I really love movies and series (and have made threads that promote sharing, suggesting and reviewing them like this and this).
Favorite genres:
Very close 2nd favorite will be
Can't stand musicals on the other hand and most romances are too cheesy for me, also really don't like the whole 3D animations films that are so popular now .
As for series, I gave a mini-review of my top 2015 TV shows here. I have to say I'm not sure I have a favorite genre here.
Don't watch animation almost at all. Yeah, I know I'm missing some good stuff.
Anyway, sorry for the wall. If you want suggestions for movies/series you can talk to me here or add me on steam. Good luck with the group! :)

Firstly let me express my gratitude for such a full detailed post.
Very nice picks (haven't seen Memento) although my favorite Psychological Thriller is probably The Sixth Sense.
Also i'm sorry if you feel my requirements are too shallow, i tried to be as open as possible for a closed group. That being said and considering your clear expertise on this matter (steam groups + knowledge about movies) i'm willing to take on your suggestions on how to improve the group. So i am willing not to only to invite you but to make an admin/mod if you agree of course.
You are clearly a filmophile and i love that.

Never heard of the word filmophile before by the way. Always thought it was either a cinephile, or a film buff. Something along those lines anyway. xD Matters not though.
Fight club, minority report and clockwork orange have been on my favs since ages ago, but they are too common to be mentioned, so let me say something about the less known/underrated gems here:
You should watch Memento. It's certainly a film that plays tricks with your mind. One of Nolan's best works if you ask me, even if it is a challenging film in more than one ways. I also loved Villeneuve's Enemy, for similar reasons and because it also seemed to have vibes of Lynch & Cronenberg film-making. It's the kind of surreal imagery and absorbing photography that I certainly can dig into. You can't shake the feeling of the dark atmosphere in these films as well as in my favorite sci-fi dark city. These kind of challenging films are also very memorable mind you, but be prepared for "alternative" endings that are far from the normal narrative films. (this comment is in regards to Enemy especially)

Wow, that's very gracious of you. I'll gladly accept your invitation and assume a helpful role in your group. :)
I'm not sure I'll consider myself a cinephile since I don't watch as nearly as much movies as I want, not formally educated in the art of cinematography, film theory etc' and got some huge holes for a "must-watch" classical films that I need to fill. But I do like to go deep when I like a movie.

I know what you mean. I've started to watch TV shows excessively myself (and enjoy them of course).
Although there is a special place in my heart for watching movies in the cinema.
I'd be honoured to have you aboard if you want of course? :)

I'm probably the biggest movie guy I know, my personal library is close to 1000 titles, and I take pleasure in even the worst movies. Some I literally watch just to see how bad they get before they give up and roll credits. But I dont join giveaway groups. so alas, I'll just go watch a movie instead.

Rules have been slightly changed in favor of new members
My requirements are pretty basic (at least in my opinion)
Rules 1,3 and 5 have been updated
Upon joining the group a user is required to make a giveaway within the next 4 days. The Giveaway has to be worth 10P+
All users must make at least one monthly giveaway worth 10P+
Minimum in group ratio of 1:3 sent/won. If a user wins 3 giveaways he must make his giveaway within the next 7 days.
Additional giveaways can be shared with up to 2 other not big groups, (does not apply to rule number 1)
Also, to keep with the theme of Movies/Series - when you make your first and monthly GA, add a mini-review of a series or movie you like (or hate!) in the description. You can be creative and add a good article about it, a youtube review, cool trivia info etc'. Your imagination is the limit!
Always show respect to your fellow club members.
We encourage members to comment on GAs that have a recommendation - like saying you like/dislike the movie/series, why, interesting piece of info regarding it etc'
Oh and there are bunch of group only great GAs. Here's a look at some of those. :)
