So what is your relationship with achievements?
2029 achievements. i play through a game once and get what i get, then play again to get any achievements i missed, unless they are crazy difficult in which case i ignore them.

sometimes i can load a save or just go right to the part that gets the achievement, but especially with shorter games i often play it most of the way through a second time.

Achievements / perfect games / average completion
I don't see a point in wasting time to "play in Universe Sandbox for x years", repeating the same level over and over again to grin 1k rats or something like that. I just get achievements that are natural for game progression and moderately hard to get - like beating the game 2nd time to collect remained collectibles (like Remember Me) etc.
But there are lots of games that gives you 100% achievement even before all card drops. So it's not hard to have many 100% games on profile - games with only 1 achievements (like To the Moon), games like The Walking Dead or HOGs (~4 - 5h to have 100%).

I've been trying to 100% some games lately but I am not doing amazingly well at that. When I played WoW I was a big achievement whore but not so much with steam. 1948 achievements, 9 perfect games and a terrible "average game completion rate" of 21%.

I like when games have achievements in to recognise you for having done something amusing or stupid, such as the bonus in Rise of the Triad for shooting yourself with your own weapon. It highlights the experience. But overall they're not important to me and if they vanished overnight I doubt I'd even notice.

I play a game to enjoy it and I don't find hunting achievements enjoyable so I pretty much just ignore them. The only time I like getting an achievement is when it is unexpected and pops up because you did something out of the ordinary or funny. A good example of this is in "Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons" when you take the kids basketball and throw it down the well.
If I read the achievement first and then tried to get it, it would be boring, but because it popped up unexpectedly and was kind of funny, I enjoyed it.

Depends on the game: if I enjoy it then I'll go for all the achievements.
Good thing I've been buying a lot of good games. With 5438 achievements, 136 Perfects and a 69%(lol) Completion Rate I'd say that I've been enjoying my games :D

I definitely have a completionist problem. But the majority of them are pretty fun to get. Grinding/tedious ones are bad though. I currently have 100% on all of my games except for Team Fortress 2 which was bundled with Half-Life 2 (so I can't remove it), which has a ridiculous amount of achievements (518) which are annoying to get and I don't like playing it.

If you are experienced with setting up a server and using console commands you can host your own server and manipulate the bots in order to accomplish about 90% of the achievements. I did not do really any of the TF2 achievements by actually 'playing' the game as most would classify it. They are not hard at all (other than the youtube achievements) and didn't take more than a few hours a night for a week or two of playing around in my server.

I get the ones that just unlock while playing the game, and sometimes when I'm bored, I go back to some games I haven't played for a while and get a few achievements, that feels pretty good. I think it really makes some games better, like those fun achievements that are in The Stanley Parable for example, but occasionally they can ruin some games too. I have 528 ATM, and 3 perfect games (I know, that's not a lot).

i like achievements like butlers, quiet barely noticeable, but they help you track stuff, now that i think about it, they are nothing like butlers, anyway, i like steam's system, a small square that dosent make any sound, Xbox's silly sound and glowing green can ruin a games tension.

I only go for achievements when they offer something new in the game, or when I'm too good at a game and I want to play more but generally I don't care much for them . Jazzpunk has the best achievements and you have to get them all if you want to fully experience the game

I have a love-hate relationship with them. I'm a completionist by nature-- but one with limited gaming time, and one who tends to play slowly and methodically. This is a terrible combination. It means I will likely avoid a game-- even a good one-- if I'm likely to get a small handful of achievements, but never get at least half of them without spending 25+ hours.
The worst are games that have achievements like, "You launched the game!" and the rest are all, like, "take no damage during the Yog-Sothoth boss battle." Skip it.
[Edit: I'd be delighted if somehow all of my Steam achievements got wiped away. Then I can start playing any game I want, as much or as little as I wish to.]

When i was playing world of warcraft i was achievement hunting. Same when i started using steam!.. Untill i bought killing floor...
https://steamcommunity.com/stats/KillingFloor/achievements/
Keep scrooling... KEEP scrooling.. Still not done yet.. Just a little more.. :P
Also some games got multi player achievement but nobody plays MP. And dumb achievements that pretty much forces you to play trough the game in 1 sitting wich i got 2 of at least.
Or games like counter strike where you are playing 1 version but still miss a lot from the older one/ones you probably won't touch ever again.

I do try to get all of the achievements in games now. At first I didn't care about Steam achievements but it is kinda fun to hunt them. Currently have 1 complete (Borderlands 2). I had 2 but one was taken away from me yesterday when they added an update to a trash game XD (Dinosaur Hunt Africa Contract).

It just shows that you have 100% completion of a game (only retail, short games don't have platinum). When you see a player's profile you can see how many trophies from each of the 4 types he/she has acquired (each achivement has a "trophy" value, instead of points)

Do you like them? or do they destroy your life? :-P
And how much did you already achieved on STEAM? (at the moment im on 1682)
Edit 1: i will try to answer all comments (i do read them all), if i miss few dont be mad....im doing my best here ^_^
Edit 2: i read in a lot of the comments about bugs and achievement synchronizing problem...any way you can use Steam Achievement Manager to delete/open achievement on steam (http://gib.me/sam/) just dont abuse it ^_^
ohh and dont use it on multi games with servers (like TF2 or CSGO) you will probably get vac for it... it should be safe on normal single player games (with no multiplayer)
