So what is your relationship with achievements?
i like collecting them and finish a game as close to 100% as possible before going to another.you gain nothing more than personal satisfaction.
the bad thing is they destroy your backlog because if you are an 100% achievement collector you have to play some games for hours before you get some achievements.for example in my recent games i have Just Cause 2love this game,i already played the game for 68 hours and i'm not even close to 100%.
currently im at 2179 Achievements, 50 Perfect Games, 77% Avg. Game Completion Rate

i sometimes check some gameplay videos if i don't know the game before starting playing or play some minutes offline but usually i play games i know.

I like them, if they're doable and force you to find secrets. .o. (I hate those that TF2 has? Like, kill a two spies in a row as a scout while being healed by medic. Okay, it's not exactly this but. Meh I don't like those.)
But I must say, I tried to 100% Saints Row 4 and... doing a lot of side missions and killing a lot of bad guys did destroy my love for that game. xD
I like to get all single player achievements/trophies on games I liked to play. But I have a lot of games to complete. On a lot of systems.
Oh and it's kinda silly that steam counts DLC achievements with base game ones. I get why. But I don't like it. xD

I have an odd relation with achievements. I usually see them as an artificial way to legthen a game, as the challenges they pose can be just retarded grindan. However, if I really enjoy a game, and the cheevies are at least a bit interesting, I may hunt them.
So far:
1,242 cheevies
13 perfect games
51% Avg. Game Completion Rate
There are 4 games off the top of my head that I'm missing just one achievement, but I'm not that eager to replay them.

I have only 100% in games I really enjoyed like Zeno Clash, borderlands, lego lotr or fez. I needed to use a guide sometimes, I remember one Lego Lotr's item was impossible to find without some help.
Sometimes they help replayability and fully completion, some others are just a silly excusa and stupid. I'm not a 100% hunter

1,310 achievements.
I think most, in general, are either given away for free ("Complete the tutorial!") or are pointless numerical grinds ("Do X 10,000 times!") but every once in awhile you get an achievement for something you can feel proud of; and then you look at the global stats and see only 1% of players earned that achievement, and that makes the whole thing worthwhile.

I don't hunt them explicitly. If I get them during my regular play session its OK, but I'll peek to see what there are left. If game forces me to completely change my play style to get some, I'll just ignore them. This is extremely prevalent in stealth games, where I prefer more to go "panther" more then full "ghost" style. Or when I'm forced to fight straight on a bulldozer while having a spoon, which would my spoon do the job as long as I stay stealthy.

I don't care much about them, it's nice to see them pop-up and sometimes I hunt for a couple fo them but usually I completely disregard their existance.
In the past I used to care a bit more about them but noticed they froced me to play in a certain way, taking away a part of the fun (like kill X enemies with this useless weapon that you hate).

I like to get achievements, but, but, the only time I will aim for 100% is if I really enjoy the game and I think I can get them all grindfest or not.
At the moment I'm at 3611 Achievements with 13 Perfect games at a 32% Avg. game Completion Rate

"Those i get during playing the game, and some time i go back for few of them..."
Though, i hate not being able to get them when playing offline... It fucked my 100%ing of FFX13-2 due to an internet trouble during my playtime and didn't noticed it

nothing like that, i just played the game normally, but my internet crashed meanwhile and i didn't knew. so when i unlocked sucess i was suppose to unlock sucess in game, it didn't. and since i saved after, the sucess didn't count and i couldn't get them back.
example, one of the sucess is capturing a tomberry, i captured my first when the net was off so it didn't took the sucess into account, but even after i played the game with net on, none of the tomberry i captured gave me the sucess, and i captured a lot as it was one f the main monster i used to fusion...

They're cool. I'm kind of newb in Steam, so I don't have many. I try to have as many I can, but with longer games which have 50+ achievements and you get 10 by the end of the game, I'm not going to bother with perfection, which probably includes stuff like multiplayer or other things I may not want to do. With short indie games which have ~20 achievements and you get most of them by playing through, I may make an extra effort for perfection.

I only have 769 achievements on Steam, I do like getting them but most games I just can't go back and play more to try and get the rest once I've completed the story, it starts to get a bit boring. Only game I've got perfect on is Rocket League haha.

If i bump into them fine, if not ... i don't really care. I played a visual novel and tried to get all the achievements and had to play the same story 6 times with minor changes. It was more fun just to watch paint dry so never again!

Depends on how fun the game is and what type of game. Though at times when do go back to get achievements that I miss.

Ok, for real? I do like getting achievements.
Because i think they extend my playtime, for example, i finished Trine campaign in 12 hours and it took me another 12 hours to get all the achievements missing.
For me a game worth the time you spend playing it, the more i can play it, it becomes worthier in my concept.

I have so many games, I generally only do a single play through, but keep in mind achievements and try to get as many as I can, however some achievements are mutually exclusive so to get one in a playthrough you have to miss another... i.e. a solo achievement and a get all the team members achievement. Or complete new game+ (which only unlocks once you have completed the game once)...

I play a game. Then if I like it and has achievements, I check after some sessions if they're progressing on the sane proportion than the time playing. If I see they don't, check if they're achievable with some little changes on ganeplay style. Then I may try to get them during a regular play, or on secondary/parallel game sessions.
If they seem really hard to achieve I just forget about them.

I'm not obsessed with them but sometimes they can mean game or no game for me.
In most cases i only buy game on steam for them instead of other platform. Also i flat out didin't play Smite anymore then it got onto steam thou failed to sync achievements.I had much of stuff already done on my smite account and wanted that to reflect on steam achvs also.

Do you like them? or do they destroy your life? :-P
And how much did you already achieved on STEAM? (at the moment im on 1682)
Edit 1: i will try to answer all comments (i do read them all), if i miss few dont be mad....im doing my best here ^_^
Edit 2: i read in a lot of the comments about bugs and achievement synchronizing problem...any way you can use Steam Achievement Manager to delete/open achievement on steam (http://gib.me/sam/) just dont abuse it ^_^
ohh and dont use it on multi games with servers (like TF2 or CSGO) you will probably get vac for it... it should be safe on normal single player games (with no multiplayer)
