So what is your relationship with achievements?
I like those that are small challenges (e.g. "complete this and this level without killing an enemy"), but not those that are like "kill 24398824923742 monsters" or "play all levels with maximum points and in under 1 hour"

I like achievements if they not too difficult and i hate online achievements. I wish steam would change achievements to be something like playstation trophies, platinum trophy would be enough for me. I hate when some DLC is released for a game and my achievement progress drops from 100% to 80%.

I like when games have achievements. If I browse them and see that I'm not far off from the next one/s I might make a small effort to get them, but the ones that are very difficult and that I know I'll just spend hours of frustration repeating the same gameplay loop to achieve I'll just ignore. Time is too precious to waste on getting some little badge that no one, probably including myself, is ever going to see again.

I'm an achievement hunter so I like them. They give me a sense of accomplishment.
Doesn't mean I like all of them thought. There are some games with nice achievements... and then there are games where the achievements are either auto-unlocked as you play the game (Walking Dead) or are a mindless grind to repeat something 10000 times (pretty much most multiplayer games). The first may as well not have achievements while the second is just lazy and kills any sense of "achievement" they might give... So, yeah, I like achievements when they're properly done. :D

I like achievements but I don't hunt for them. I prefer not even knowing what achievements the game has, I'm just pleasantly surprised when they pop up for playing the game my way. Once I'm done with the game I'll look at all the earned achievements for more details about how I got them, but I still won't look at the ones that I didn't get.
I did pick that "going back for few of them" vote though. The exception to the above is multiplayer games. I'm glad to help friends to get achievements so that's usually when I earn them as well. Also when multiplayer games have something important locked behind achievements, that would be when I hunt for them but I really don't like it.

Nothing against achievements, especially if those are well made (not just completing some boring grind or requiring to get extremely lucky). I don't tend to hunt them, usually I play through game and get those which come along as I play, sometimes I go back after completing the game and try to get some more (and rarely I try to get them all).

I don't usually go out of my way to get achievements unless it's a game I really, really enjoy. Ones that are harder to get are pretty fun to show off, if only as a "look at how much of my life I've wasted on playing this" kind of way. And it's always kind of neat when you get a difficult achievement without actually trying.

1085, with 23 perfected games
"gotta catch them all" I say ... well it's impossible anyway ;P
I am trying to perfect any game I start, but, some games (i have 2 strategy games of that kind) break on every turn or simply don't send achievement stats, so you won't get some achievements ... maybe if you find some way to "cheat" it, but I don't know how ;P

i so know what you mean my friend and i have the game "lord of the rings war in the north" and we did the coop together (cool game) the only problem was that only the one who host it got all the achievements, the other one got just few of them (we dont know why)
and there is a way to delete/open achivment on steam you can do it with SAM (Steam Achievement Manager):
just dont abuse it :-P

I know about this app and have used it instead of the other steam idler when i am on win xp to get cards
... does this actually work?
Comment has been collapsed.
yup, this app can't unlock achievements
info from FAQ:
SERVERSIDE ACHIEVEMENTS? WUT?
That's right. Steam now has the capability to secure achievements from being managed. Naturally this means you can't unlock them. Good for them. :)

then I'll try it on my LEGO LotR - i was in Mordor, but wasn't in Amon Hen (if you watched Lord of the Rings, those names should tell you enough to understand, that something is not right) ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
nah, it doesn't work ;)
Amon Hen was the place, where the Fellowship has finally split and Boromir died
well it doesn't matter if you know where in the story was Amon Hen - there is nothing more after Mordor ;P
I'm not sure if I'd be able to remember those Middle Earth names if not for the Battle for Middle Earth game ;) too bad it is not available in digital distribution :(
and to go back to the main topic
like I've wrote already I am trying to catch them all but it's impossible in some cases
but leaving aside broken games/achievements, I hate it when you have some terribly stupid achievements, that make you play even if you don't want to ... best example of hated achievements is Sandbox Universe game (the 1st one)
I know, there are some tricks to get those achievements, but lets say, that I want to ""catch" them fair
those hated achievements split into 2 groups, each group has 4÷5 achievements if I remember and those are simply 4÷5 levels of hatred:
group 1 - play for 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 month, 1 year ... it does not mean play today, then open the game again after 1 year, it means 1 year of playtime ... yeah, you read right, over 8.7k hours, 0.5M minutes, 31.5M seconds - there are a few methods to nicely cheat it, but the other group ...
group 2 - start the game 10 times, 100 times, 1000 times, 10000 times ... yeah, just start it, close it, start it close it, start it close it, start it, close it, and so on, batch script helps a lot but it still takes a lot of time ... I am on my way to the 2nd to last 1000 times ...

I'm not an achievements fan, meaning that I'm not obsessed in getting them all; on the contrary I tend to let the game go on and perhaps look for funny ones...
201 achievements; 16 % average .... that say it all... :)

I'm the person who only care about achievement if I get something out of it. Basically if the achievement give me a title , a mount , a pet or a skin. I will try my best to do them. However if it's just an achievement for fun I don't care.

If achievements start to feel like "work", I tend to ignore them. I have 3 jobs already for that.
If I can get them easily enough, I'll occasionally go out of my way to get them, otherwise I just get whatever ones I can while playing the game normally. :X

I don't really pursue achievements in most games. I just get most playing through a game I enjoy and tend to not notice them after that. I personally don't like or respect the idea or concept of "achievements" in gaming because over the years it has given birth to that obnoxious tribe known as "achievement hunters". All achievements have really done over the years is add fuel to this toxic "ME, ME, ME ALL ABOUT ME LOOK AT ME!" culture that's being groomed into younger gamers who think this kind of attitude is normal. These so called "achievement hunters" play co-op games with other people and then have the nerve to try to get everyone in the gaming session to conform to their style of playing because they supposedly "need" a certain achievement. And if everyone in the room doesn't cooperate with their gaming demands, they rage and lash out at "uncooperative people". This can take the form of team killing, abusing vote kick systems, swatting and all other kinds of nonsense....

5,151 achievements
14 perf games
35% avg
Dont really care about them overall

Should there be a option 'whats that? I don't even remenber'
Achievements might be the prime example of something that could be awesome in gaming but is 99,98% of the time complete and utterly waste not even worth the pixels it take on the store page.

I need to get 75-80% (never play ng+(i will not play second time a game because of some stupid achivement - there is a hundreds of games i want to play), a lot of games have broken achivements (it's very frustrating) and sometimes i cant get a multiplayer achivements because nobody is playing it anymore)

Do you like them? or do they destroy your life? :-P
And how much did you already achieved on STEAM? (at the moment im on 1682)
Edit 1: i will try to answer all comments (i do read them all), if i miss few dont be mad....im doing my best here ^_^
Edit 2: i read in a lot of the comments about bugs and achievement synchronizing problem...any way you can use Steam Achievement Manager to delete/open achievement on steam (http://gib.me/sam/) just dont abuse it ^_^
ohh and dont use it on multi games with servers (like TF2 or CSGO) you will probably get vac for it... it should be safe on normal single player games (with no multiplayer)
