I'm also curious how many people prefer non-lethal to lethal, or do you like multiple play-throughs to do both? I prefer hardest difficulty stealth only and non-lethal. I typically restart a mission if I get seen.

When given the option in a game, are you pure stealth, guns blazin' or a mix of both

I'm really excited for the opportunity in MGS 5: Phantom Pain. Open world stealth is always littered with possibilities.

there already was a mgs 5. now another one? this is confusing. maybe it's because i never had a console so never felt the need to keep track of the series. i don't know. .-.

The game we have is like a prelude to 5. The true 5 will be released soon.

Oh, and some MGS games have actually been released on PC. I have MGS 2 in my game shelf, and MGS 1 also got a PC release. 3 & 4 did not though.

Generally speaking, I hate stealth. But that's mostly because a lot of games do stealth poorly. I hate stealth when it means spotted=instant failure. For one thing, it makes you incredibly vulnerable to glitches, bugs, or quirks in the in-game movement. Ideally, I like it when the stealth offers me some means of continuation; either escape, combat, or trickery.

Sneaky, yeah, that's me. Taking my time, moving carefully, studying patrol routes to find the safe spots and timing my moves to reach them, all without making a sound. Nobody will know I was there... Except that all their precious things are now gone... looting, pillaging, stealing, I do it all the time.

And when I get home I play some games, obviously.

Stealth on Elder Scroll saga its kinda boring/too much waiting, because in some zones you have a lot of enemies that can see you "easy", the game that i enjoyed the most with the stealth walkthrought its Dishonored and the Metal Gear solid saga (well, didnt play 4 and 5, but the 1,2 and 3 were kinda fun)

Currently replaying Fallout: NV on Xbox (played on PC so long time ago). I love being sneaky, landing crits (if your weapons are good enough, it's usually one-hit kill) and steal stuff (don't care about karma at all, if you're doing good stuff during quests, it will doesn't matter if you stealing everything you see). You can even kill innocent people and even allies, if no one sees you, your reputation will not change... It's just a fun way to mess around with AI and it's so much fun!

I prefer non-lethal (hello Batman!) but when the antagonists are pure scum (like in Tomb Raider 2013,) I have no problem with killing them.

Whatever character I play in The Elder Scroll games I'll end up with a sneaky type of character - i just don't like getting ambushed by random NPCs or animals. - so I like sneaky.
Lethal vs non-lethal? I like to play first with the main character's mindset - for example Dishonored - Corvo is against the system, but not against the people. Nonlethal takedowns only. (Plus master assassin - why would I fight fair, face to face? Anytime I get seen, I'll try to vanish before attacking) After I finish it (few months, give or take one :D ) I'll maybe play a fury-fueled Corvo, who wants to kill anyone who's part of the world that betrayed him.
So - I try to roleplay / think with the head of the main character. If it's personality is not pronounced, usually stealthy, but can be random, depending on my mood, but always logical (300lbs 7" barbarian won't sneak. He'll kill the bandit. With another bandit)

Depends on the game I guess. I imagine I would mostly choose the lethal way unless it was harder.

I try to be as stealthy as possible 99% of the time. I do go guns blazing here and there when I feel like it

I am a Stealth person, Metal Gear Solid is my favorite series, but if I feel like I cannot leave all enemies left standing and have to harm everybody before I progess... Just incase :)

I prefer the non lethal route. i usually try stealth because I feel it's a bigger challenge, i run into less trouble and I get less bad karma for killing people. however when the situation calls for killing people, I have no issue doing so.

See one post down :P (oh, and save a certain someone while you're at it, without killing anyone, for added challenge)

For any game that gives me the option, I prefer to go non-lethal and sneaky. And preferably on a high difficulty, so that failure to remain sneaky hurts.

Same here. I won't hold my breath for it (I've been burnt too many times by promising games, Invisible war anyone?), but I'll keep an eye on it at least.

Starts playing
Full stealth mode activated
Sneaks
Gets spotted
Kills enemy
Backup arrives
Kills everyone, guns blazing
Bloodbath the rest of the game

...This pretty much sums up me playing a stealth game. The only exception to this is Dishonored, which I almost completed without killing anyone and staying hidden all the time. One of the best stealth games I've ever played, no doubt.

I hate stealth. So much.

Its far more satisfying to run round killing everything. Less frustrating as well, I'm not anal enough to time every movement perfectly.

Full stealth, if it's well-executed (like Deus Ex, Thief, Dishonored, Styx...) - I don't like games forcibly trying to do stealth though, while lacking the mechanisms for it, like Sniper Elite V2
