Will you consider the Epic Game Store your new default library?
Nice, wishlisted game, comming from Maniac Mansion!

So I'm trying to create an account. Epic insists I already have one registered (which I very much doubt, but fine, perhaps I simply forgot), waiting for-fucking-ever for the password reset email to arrive. You know what, even with all the freebies, I don't think this awful thing is worth the hassle :D

You replied to me a month ago about creating an acc. Take a look at your emails around that time. Might help. xD
Btw, I had to asked them to resend the confirmation email twice before I actually got something.

Huh, you're useful! I don't remember actually registering an acc though, I think it started and ended with the "considering" phase :D But I'm gonna dig through my emails, thanks for pointing me in that direction :)
Edit: yep, no email from whatever could be the Epic store in the last three months. So definitelly just "considered" getting it :D Thank you for trying to help, all the same :)

I wonder how long they intend on doing this; though this reminds me of Origin's "game on the house" thing that they sometimes did, but in that case it's usually an EA game.

IIRC 1 free game every 2 weeks for first year of store. So another 19 games to come after Slime Rancher.

Thank you Epic Store, I will never buy games from you by the way.

If you dislike Epic games, I'd recommend making many many accounts and using those free accounts to acquire all the free games being offered,, Epic games is paying full price for each copy of the free game you acquire.. So lets show them how much we appreciate their garbage tactics by costing them millions of dollars..

I saw the information in an article prior to Epicgamestore launching.. It was talking about the profit split. I can't find the article atm. Pretty sure it was an IGN article.. either way, the developers are getting paid (I read it was full price, although if I had to venture a guess, it would be atleast sale price) for each copy of the game people get off the store.. they aren't doing it out of the kindness of their hearts...

they have no other way to promote themeselves if they don't do exclusives and giveaway games... it's hard to compete with steam!
also even if i'm not planning using another platform beside Steam, but they are almost monopolising the market, dominating any other platform, and this is not good for the business.
We should encourage having many stores / platforms to push them to give their best, make good offers, discounts, and do giveaways often!

These freebies convince me to not buy any big indie titles for a long time. I don't want to spend my money on a game which is going to be free like this. Epic is harming indie devs in order to rise against steam. But hey, competition is good!!

I have to agree. I purchased both Subnautica and Slime Rancher and I generally only buy games now in order to support the devs. Otherwise I wait for bundles. It's stings to see them given away for free, even if they've been out for a while.

And HB monthly harms indies because they give a buck or two for each game's developer / sold bundle, Humble bundles harm developers because they bundle them for a low price that includes HB support + charity, bundle buyers who pay 100% charity harm indies for not paying for it, IG harms indies by filling the secondary market with copies along with diving usually a dozen of various games for a buck, Steamgifts harms indies for gifting leftover games for free that the user won't buy in the future etc, etc, etc.
Your possible buyer's remorse is just overpowering your willingness to support them by buying the games, and not complaining about freebies or discounts afterwards. It's not Epic's fault. YOU being afraid to buy is not their fault.

Well its not an irony and he is right. Most of indie games are joining bundle sites and most of users can buy 3 - 6 games under 1,99. Most of buyers waiting huge sale or bundles for indies. its not epics or steams fault, directly developers fault.
ps: as i know only Factorio and rimworld's developers are resisting. They didnt sell their games more than %10 sale even on winter sales.

I fallen in love with Factorio after playing the demo and paid more than I ever paid for a single game to get it before the price raise. Started playing with a friend finally this week, and fallen into the rabbithole I knew it will be.
I don't dare to buy Rimworld. I would be obsessed with it :D

No, he is not right about buyer's remorse in my case. Apart from refund option, steam prices in my region is really low for indies. That's why I don't feel remorse when it's bundled. I was going to buy some old indie titles this summer but I changed my mind since Epic may going to give it away for free. Now tell me whose fault is this?

You are in Turkish region like me. Anyway epic indie developers already getting paid from epic/humble when their games giving away. Probably they gained much more than sale period because of epics giveaways not bad games actually popular ones. So i dont think developers sad about their decisions. Also you never know which games will be join epics giveaways so your argument still wrong.
Btw im also buying games on steam due to regional prices but my favorite store is gog. Sadly their catalogue much expensive than steam.

He is saying this already happened over and over again, for years now. There are freebies on other sites like HB. Even on Steam itself. This "problem" is not an Epic problem. HB, Steam and others did it before. And I don't even think it's a problem. The devs wouldn't do it if it was hurting them. Such a promo means they get money, and also visibility. Subnautica being free means the game is in the news. It means more people will be interested in Subnautica Below Zero. Subnautica already made most of the money. The people who were really interested in the game already bought it. That promo could raise more awareness. Get people interested who maybe didnt even really know about the game. And it remiinds the original buyers of the game, thus preparing the launch of the successor. It's a win-win.
Free games don't happen that often. A game every 2 weeks on Epic now. One game every month on Twitch. And an occasional (often low quality) game on HB. That's not that much. Compared to the amount of games overall that's nothing. If that small portion of games being offered free at some point really makes you stop buying those games alltogether - well, that doesn't seem logical to me. You don't know which game will be free and which is not. So not buying a game in order to get it free later is not the smart choice - it's just skipping the game, with a very small chance of getting it free.
I seriously doubt there are many people on this planet who actually stop buying big indie titles alltogether, just because of a few free ones from Epic. Simply doesn't make sense.
Now, we could talk about the general problem of too many bundles and how that affects game prices and launch sales. But since you blame Epic, that's clearly not what you meant. You were actually only talking about their freebies, right?.
Comment has been collapsed.
Exactly. This site is used to a culture of freebies and bundles, but there are a lot of gamers that aren't. Most of my friends don't use this site. They only buy new games and weren't interested in the Epic freebie.
Yet, after a discussion about the game a couple of weeks ago in Discord, a bunch of them bought Subnautica for Steam. Word of mouth is everything.

The Epic Gaming Store started putting up 1 free game every 2 weeks since December. Indie as well as AAA developers have been choosing to put their games up for free on different clients/stores for years and years before this. So despite years and years of this happening you've only been worried since December since The Epic Games Store started doing it?
Comment has been collapsed.
What's more Epic is actually paying the devs of said free releases so it's not like they aren't getting anything out of it. It's not really harming devs as much as some people think (other than those that got the backslash for the exclusivity deal, but in many cases that's more on Epic and the publisher and less on the devs), generally Epic are pretty good towards devs, helping with lots of things, giving better rates at the store and the dev grants while limited to UE users is still something really good for promising indie titles.
Source for that since I know people will complain "but where's your source": https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/news/the-epic-games-store-is-now-live
The store will also feature one free game every two weeks throughout 2019. Epic is funding these free releases so you always have something new to come and check out.

YEP. HB offers are nothing but cards for me. Other good offers are from fubisoft and a golden sh!t awarded company that is famous with killing great titles. I won't spend a penny on them. I don't like Epic Games as well but I'm not that far installing it like others.
Comment has been collapsed.
As mentioned in the other answers, not an Epic-specific issue. What I find helpful to remedy (potential) buyer's remorse is instead of focusing on "money spend unnecessarily", considering how much I like a given game, and therefore am supporting the developer and artists a little extra having voluntarily paid for said game.
On a related note: from my personal observation, I have not stopped purchasing games (either directly or in bundles) at all, even though I grab lots of giveaways.Giveaways do not always match what I'm most interested in at a given time, so other titles stay interesting in their own right.

Free is nice, but I don't want to get another client, so free or not I'll pass on the goodies. Too bad games like Metro: Exodus are another year out from returning to Steam. But that's okay, I can wait. :) It's just too bad Valve won't budge on the 30% cut they require as so many good games are now exclusive to Bethesda launcher and Epic, neither of which I want to make accounts with. And I really wanted to play RAGE 2. :(
Comment has been collapsed.
They've changed their cut a bit, sometime late last year I believe. Now if a dev/publisher earned $10mil on a game the split will go to 25%, then at $50mil it'll go to 20%. Earnings includes game packages, DLC, in-game sales, and Community Marketplace game fees

A few more days 'til Slime Rancher! Time to hold off dat depression

Sure, but let's not act like the Epic store giveaways are anything new, Steam has been doing that for years, either directly or via Humble Bundle & other storefronts. Either Epic is paying the developers, or the developers deem the extra visibility a marketing plus, for instance for their new games.
Edit see related discussion a few messages up :)
