If you dont want to see "thanks or etc." just inform them in your giveaways. I usually type "Thanks mate or thanks m8." If you want to know that they are bot or human just ask a simple question in your giveaways. Mean; 31+69 = ? or 44/2 = ? Then let them know, answer is basically means "Thanks".
No one should not blacklist them for they type "Thanks". I think this is not fair.

Everyone has the option to blacklist anyone for any reason they seem valid.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Everyone has the option to blacklist anyone for any reason they seem valid or even not valid.
But i am trying to say that; when i type "Thanks mate" for any giveaway, this is not a valid reason to he/she blacklist me for i thank to him/her. Is it?
Comment has been collapsed.
Anything that the person doing the blacklisting deems valid is valid. That is the whole point of the action. Even if others disagree. I personally would not desire anyone to blacklist for such reason but still consider it valid if they so desire.

Sometimes I just say "Thank you very much! : D " because I genuinely want to thank them for the chance. I mean, there's no real way to win this. Either you piss people off for saying a generic thank you or you piss people off by not saying anything. Other option is to say something related to the game being given away, like about how the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park are a good example of "Science Marched On" for the first film and "They Changed the Designs, Now They Suck" in the case of the later movies. And that can get a touch tedious when you enter a bajillion things in one day.

Because thanks.
Also because some people blacklist you for not saying thanks, and other blacklist you for saying thanks, and "automatic join and comment" scripts.

No, he doesn't have that problem on inbox, this has been his first "contribution" to the site...
Probably is faster and easier make comment on a giveaway not count as reply. Only replies to comments. Or to be more precise, not counting as comment a giveaway description.
Comment has been collapsed.
well i meant in general as 1/2 of the sites want "thanks" and the other 1/2 dosent (especially over the inbox issue) so a simple button will fix that easily (you can see that on other social sites as torrents/forums/communities and such)
and its not so hard to implement on the site code as well...
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks button has less sense than Thanks and it's variations to a giveaway. If it's implemented I will ignore it and keep writing Thanks message based on the game, conditions of the giveaway, descrption or gifter name. So it won't change anythinanything, only less comments from the laziest users that at least cares a bit.
And well there's those thanks filters, so the option to make descriptions don't count as comments seem much more reasonable.

Totally agree. A "thanks" button seems pretty redundant to me.
Like you, I think the problem isn't with people expressing gratitude, but the way the system handles the replies.
Perhaps the answer is to split replies into those on a user's own giveaways, and those on all other threads, with the option to turn off notification for the former?
Comment has been collapsed.
well that which is "redundant" to you seems to work perfectly for others on quite a few sites i am member in, so...
and i dont think there is a problem on the inbox as is,
just by the content preferences of people, for example if you get 100 "thanks" then its annoying, but if it was 100 individual dynamic comments - then noting is wrong with it as is.
Comment has been collapsed.
Use Thanks filter tools as a temporary solution.
Also I bet "those sites" are forum like, where the meaning of thanks is different, like thanks your solution helped me. Or like thanks for uploading that content. And where posting converts that into a bump to the thread. So it's a different system.
Comment has been collapsed.
"So it's a different system" - how exactly? by what uploading a giveaway is referent from other info upload?
here as there its content that follow by a comment on it.
so i dont see any different none whatsoever.
it is just a preference of the creator and those who utilizes the content (the users)
Comment has been collapsed.
No, it's not my opinion, ones last until it's closed by author or mods, or forever if not clised. Can be bumped, and has sense a tool to thanks without bumping/necroing. The other have a limited time, can be limitted the access partially by level, or already having the game. Can be only accessed by a link, or you may be totally impeded to access by different restrictions. Also, if doesn't have a specific content, is reasonable to argue that the only logic to interact with is to THANK for the creation, so try to reduce or minimize the interaction, has few logic behind.
I can continue, but my battery is more important now, and I think it's already clear my explanation. You can keep pretending you're blind if you want.

No, it's not my opinion, if the thanks button is implemented and people omit it, automatically makes it a FAIL attempt of solution, and I don't see why that won't happen.
Also you see a problem to solve, but different users see tdifferent problems and different solutions for what they want to solve. Don't try to simplify it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Considering the problem is on inbox, and not the messages which can be not read. That problem didn't exist on SGV1, so the solution was already there.
My opinion is that it shouldn't be implemented.
But if it's implemented and omitted, it will be a fail, and that is not an opinion, is a fact that may occur.
Comment has been collapsed.
You still don't get my point. I think it won't satisfy the needs you think it will cover. Nor will be so much used. You think yes. Both are opinions. But if it won't satisfy all the needs and solve all the problems will not be a so useful implementation, and the implementation of other things would have been better or still necessary.

Inbox is a non-issue, on the left side are filter categories for giveaways, trades, discussions and tickets. I have now 16 open giweaways and 2 that just ended and no problem whatsoever.
Button is not needed, if someone doesn't want to write anything, he is free not to.

"Button is not needed, if someone doesn't want to write anything, he is free not to." - well you are correct, but i see threads opening by people who get annoyed by "thanks" comments, and i see threads opened by people who get annoyed by the lack of saying "thanks" from those who won there giveaway.
so basically a button is an easy way to satisfy both needs. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Fair chunk of complaints comes from entrants, not creators. Reasoning is they cannot see 'important' messages or page loads ~0.01% slower. It's all about their interest, not caring at all about other entrants and creator needs and wants.
Some of complaints come also from creators, mostly on bot/CP generic messages. With combination of BL and description asking not to thank, this can be easily taken down to incidental levels. The thanks button might be of help to them.
Most of those that complain on lack of thanks in comments section would treat button as there was no comment at all, so button doesn't change anything
Comment has been collapsed.
"...would treat button as there was no comment at all" i dont think so, as clicking on button is simple, which means most people will do and as so will give benefit of the doubt for the creator towards the winner.
all the rest is a matter of opinion :)

"which you can't guarantee" - nether do you, you can guarantee it wont happen... so what is your point?
"he won't find them on a Thanks counter or list", not so true you can implement it as on user click is name is added to a list that the creator can see (even other users) - that will satisfy the opener and the users wish to just say "thanks", fixing all problems.

"clicking on button is simple" is the key here. This is as meaningless as scripted autothanks, and as such we can all live without it. If you don't feel like taking minimal effort to type it, don't bother with button or a script.
I like to think that everyone who posted something on one of my giveaways, did that because it was important for him to some degree
All we do is exchanging our opinions, there is no point in debating hard reality )

This is not only my opinion, I'm just voicing it here. This is n-th discussion on the subject in a short time with the same arguments pro/against repeated over and over.
I was referring to "all the rest is a matter of opinion". Everything here is opinion or speculation. Perhaps I misunderstood that phrase as "what I wrote above are facts, everything else are opinions", if so, sorry for that

People spam "thanks" as often as they spam this kind of thread.

I was raised to be polite and well mannerd, for me, if someone offers me a chance to win something, it would be rude to not thank him.
On internet or in real life.
If the site had a "no thanks" etiquette, i would follow it, but some people get made because you don't thank them and other because you thank them.
Say it in the comment if you don't want people leaving a comment, or thanking you.

thank you for asking. look here: http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/B8mOu/can-we-stop-commenting-thanks-on-the-giveaway

I just tend to put a "<3" cos I'm slow at typing! And I want to share the love :3 if it says put something specific though then I usually will. I generally only say thank you if I actually win something which I am of course very grateful for.

I post a message of gratitude on every giveaway... except for those belonging to people who threaten blacklisting for it... for whatever reason.
I always make it a point to check my spelling and use correct capitalization and punctuation... and no abbreviations! Even if I repeat my messages, I always type them out, never copy/paste. And, yes, I do repeat myself often, but how many different ways can one say "thank you" when you're signing up for a ton of giveaways at once?
Let's say I have a full 300 points and sign up for one 40 point game, three 20s, four 15s, six 10s, and sixteen five point games... That's thirty thank you messages in one day and it doesn't account for the fact that, on a busy day, you can completely refill that 300 points and then some.
I try to avoid messages that sound awkward because they're things no one would ever say in person, and I don't often address people by name on Steamgifts because it seems a bit overly familiar (I'm weird that way), so there are only so many ways to say thanks before you start repeating.
And on a day when everyone is giving away the same 3 or 5 point game, you could enter 60 to 100 giveaways, even before your points fill back up!
I guess if one wants thanked or not, they should specify in the description. It would save everyone a whole lot of time, and worrying over whether they'll get blacklisted for trying to be polite, without writing a personalized epic poem for the gift giver. None of us are immortal, and I'd be perfectly happy to save time I'll never get back by just skipping the "thank you" message, if all it's going to do is cause people to get their knickers in a twist.
At the end of the day, the site rewards you for creating giveaways by raising your level so you can enter more exclusive giveaways. So as far as I'm concerned, a thank you message is just gravy. If Steamgifts were about essay writing contests on the subject of gratitude, I'd have noticed by now.
Speaking for myself, if you see a message from me, rest assured it was really me typing it out on the other end of the line, even if it's something I've said a thousand times. And, if you enter a giveaway I'm doing, thank me or don't, I'm fine with either.

This sums it up pretty well for me as well. I don't always thank the person that made the giveaway, but when I do I type it out and almost always use their name or say something about the game. I feel odd joining a give away and not showing my appreciation for it.
I definitely will go out of my way, if I win, to let the person know how much I appreciated it.

I find it kind of weird how something can have like 50 comments and all of them are just "Thanks!!!" "Thanks :)" or something like that. It makes it look like everybody is just spamming it.
