Try Dungeon Defenders. The original one with all DLCs (imo it is the best one, DD2 is free to play but i did not like it as much. DDA seems to be similar to the original game but might be a downgrade, haven't played much)

It has the following:
-tower defense
-looting/grind for better gear drops (not that meaningful, unless you decide to pump up the difficulty. Last i remember hard is mostly doable with random items, insane + might require more specific builds while nightmare+ difficulty requires proper gear, which means you will need to grind and advance slowly)
-hero/tower stat build allowing to make different builds per hero (you can make a DPS hero, or an ability hero, or both, or a tank, or a tower tank, or tower DPS, etc)
-multiple classes, each with a different playstyle and their own weapons/towers
-third person action rpg (which means you will have to help the towers to get things done)
-storyline/progression (bosses with mechanics, challenge missions, harder difficulties, "endless" survival, etc)
-solo/coop/online play (playing with randoms can be annoying as people are often trigger happy with kicking players randomly or just because they are greedy, as loot dropped is shared between all, so you have to play with respect for the host and follow the rules to avoid being on their bad side)

BTD games are great but it can get boring... The gameplay doesn't change much and is very limited. I used to play BTD a lot on mobile ages ago, game obtained from humble bundle like a decade ago or close to that. PVZ1 is a simple game, it was nice but there isn't much to do longterm.

DD1, if you like that type of mix, then the game will easily occupy you hundreds, if not thousands of hours. Thousands of hours if you dedicate to beating the hardest difficulties, which requires grinding for gear, hundreds of hours alone for beating most things without grinding as much.

There is not really an overarching story if you are afraid of jumping right in. The story is not even that important within one part itself. Its useful to transport the games mechanics and thats about it.

The heart symbol was chosen some years ago because back then, the cards emoji wasn't displayed properly on old browsers and a lot of people still used them. Things likely changed over the years and I would think that these days everyone using some sort of modern browser that can display emojis, but it didn't really occur to me to change the symbol until you brought it up. I will consider your suggestion, thank you!
