I think the only MMO I ever seriously played was SWTOR. I really miss it. I can't justify spending the monthly fee on what now is practically a single player game :(

Didn't I read that you also play STO? Heh, I convinced myself to try Agents of Yesterday which was a nice tribute to some classic TOS moments(plus it had new voicework from the Chekov, Walter Koening) but once you drop back into the 25th century it's business as usual.Grind,rinse,repeat.A few of my old fleeties are still around but most of them are just interested in endgame ground elites.Which is a shame since the story missions have some real potential to be more than "pewpewpew ground/pewpewpewp space." At least the Foundry has the rare diamond in the rough.

Yep, I've been playing since the beta (few months a year or so). It's always more of the same, but there are also some interesting systems that change the pace of the game (if I don't feel like doing missions, I can always dabble with Duty Officers and the more recent Admiralty system, a whole game in a game). Yes, it's always about grinding, but there are different ways to do that, at least. And wildly different places where you can still get top equipment (since there is no single "must have" setup, or at least that was the case when I last played, some 7-8 months ago).
And there is lots of new content if you wait a bit for episodes to pile up. And free top-tier ships 3 times a year. Grindy, but about the best content you can get for free.

This is a worthwhile point, unlike almost any other MMO I can think of, STO is definitely not "pay2win". Although it can sure seem that way to outsiders and even current players. I've never spent a single dime (unless you count that one bundle some site did last year, with choose-your-own ships including a tier 6 for $10 which I unfortunately missed out on) and yet I've got a Tier 5 U Federation Dreadnought, Tier 6 Valiant-class Escort, and a veritable fleet I got for basically free.
I think there's two types of STO players: MMO gamers and Trekkers/ies. I am definitely the latter; my ships are all phaser+torp ships for Fed or disruptor+torp for KDF. I don't care about the best DPS or using an ass-ugly Elachi or Hirogen cruiser just because they're l33t. I go for the most canonical setup I can, within reason.
LLAP:)

Yep, you get a lot of stuff for free, and you can even buy real money currency with ingame currency, that means a lot, you won't be able to afford the top item packs/expansion packs without serious grind, but a lot of little QoL stuff (more inventory, bank, character slots) is not hard to get with a few days effort.
I'm not a big spender (spent no more than €50 over 5 years), and I got some nice stuff by grinding a bit (mostly admiralty and duty officer tasks) with a good number of characters (I have 7 IIRC), including the Delta Rising pack (that one with all Intel ships) and some 9-ship packs (i.e. command ships).

Yeah, what kills me are the ridiculous Exchange prices these days. I remember last year when I was really rocking, logging in every day, ships and even Fleet Mods were like 400k-15mill. Now the cheapest ship's like 20mil and it's a tier 1 pos. Admiralty system has its definite downsides, but I still like it even though my KDF main has only 9 ships so it takes ages to progress . My FED TAC main has 20 so he's a bit better off.

True, but i am a pve/coop campaing guy and all the story-related content is free. Gear-wise i have no need in higher gear cuz if mobs were getting too strong i just fall back to planet story arc or some fetch/kill sidequests. I agree that credit cap is frustrating as fuck though as well as ridiculous "fast" travel.

I played EVE Online, WoW, D&D Online, Vanguard & LOTRO between about 2004 & 2014 but I don't have the time required to play any of them any more :(

I did meet some people who are playing MMOs, but the past couple of years I never met anyone, playing them. Is this genre still relevant? If you are playing them, which ones do you like the most?
