Demon asked for a movie, I'm asking for a game.

I've played all of Frictional Games' stuff, all Fear titles, all Silent Hill games, basically everything good and I've ran out. I might even broadcast it tonight if I find a good one.

Also don't say Fatal Frame, I have it on my PC and I'm 10% in and I am not doing any more of that, god

I find Doom 3 much more scary than FEAR, but it is a matter of personal preference. I liked Doom 3 very much.

First 30 minutes of Doom 3 is a scariest thing I've ever played, but after that... meh...
Dead Space is better overall.

Dead Space couldn't startle me like Doom could. However I'd rather play Dead Space than Doom, its tons of fun.

+1 to this

no idea why people complain about it, in my opinion it's a great game with some scary moments, especially when you play in the middle of night in an empty house :)

That does look very interesting but does it have horror elements as in scares of some sort.

Yes. Yes it does. Only the first game though, the other 2 are garbage. First game gave me nearly a heart attack with a dream sequence at the beginning, then it turned into something more psychological as it went on, much like some early Silent Hill games (up until 4: The Room). This one is a hidden gem, go for it. Good luck finding it though.

The only thing I'm scared of in Dead Space is a tentacle head monster (dunno why really, it just does that). It's not that scary as a whole, yet still a nice action game.

I can honestly say Dead Space was the scariest game i ever played, or at least intense. Basically a survival game that actually gives you a chance at playing. Unlike some games cough...Resident Evil...cough

SCP is basically going down stairs and at random points a face pops, a shadow pops and you hear footsteps. Yeah, not sure if worth it.

^This. Even though the premise is simple, I don't know why but it scares the crap out of me. I tried the original one, that uses the Unigine engine and I couldn't do more than 6-7 staircases, had to quit the game, even though I didn't even get to the ghostly figure. Mabye my imagination has gone wild, but that's the way I like it :D

Also, obviously, this should be played during the night, with headphones, alone....

Although I found this one quite scary, on my second playthrough I reached a point where I couldn't keep going without dying, that killed the experience for me. Otherwise, simple but highly atmospheric.

This is the version you want. SCP-087-B is more of a maze and more things happen to you in this maze. There are multiple monsters and such.

Also, try Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

It's not really a "game", but it's randomness can scare the shit out of pretty much everyone. It's a freeware - SCP-087 (ver. a (stairs) and b (some tunnels).

All depends on what you actually seek in a horror game.
Whether you're into monster killing, hiding from monsters, running away from monsters, or if that all doesn't matter and you're into deep storyline with lots of hidden metaphors.
I would personally recommend you a game that is often overlooked - Rule of Rose. But it's not for monster hunters for sure.

Hey, I need a reply about this...

So basically several months ago (well, I think we were in 2012 already), I read some stuff about Rule of Rose... don't remember if it was from a webcomic or a newspaper. Seems some people thought it included pedophile scenes and stuff like that. I checked a review or two, and the results came out negative: Rule of Rose was only deeply story-driven.

What I'm asking I guess is more info on how some people could possibly believe a PS2 game would break every law ever made, and if some part of that is true.

Thanks.

Even though it's pretty much beyond me, I believe it was mostly because of the trailers which were basically all about little girls giggling, trying to act like adults, a scene where one of them puts the other one's finger into her mouth. All that was set up pretty suggestively without revealing what actually happens and why. I think that's where the pedophilia controversy comes from.
The other aspect of the trailers were the scenes with girls torturing the heroine, and the ending with lots of ropes being twined around her, and many arms grabbing her legs and body and dragging her into the darkness while she's screaming for help. Seems like this was what brought up the retarded "rape, beat up and kill a little girl" argument by some officials.
Obviously none of them bothered playing the game, they were just freaked out with the trailers and their dirty minds finished the picture the way they wanted to see it. This might've been creators' intent to play with the audience's imagination to some extent, but it's all in the eyes of the beholder in the end, and those deputies took it way over the top.
I can't explain it fully without spoiling the plot, I'll just say the game itself leaves a lot to one's personal interpretation. The journey is full of metaphors which become clear only closer to the end, and even though nothing is explained directly, one can come to some logical conclusions if they paid enough attention. Maybe some of those metaphors were misinterpreted by the aforementioned people, but I doubt this was the case. I believe they simply didn't bother looking beyond what the trailers showed.

I suppose there was a double entendre from the developers, if only to add mystery to the game.

I'm definitely planning on grabbing the complete PS2 games library eventually, and Rule of Rose just got more priority, if only for the experience it provides.

Thanks for the info man.

The game is not for everyone, but once you're in, there's no way out. :) It may start slow and get a bit repetitive at some point, but it truly shines closer to the end. The amount of metaphors there is worthy of Team Silent, and the ending left me wondering, while being overwhelmed emotionally and aesthetically. Try to play it by all means.
