Aside from being scammed, what is the worst attitude that a certain SG user has shown to you? (Please remember to not drop names)

Mine is being harassed for "blacklisting" a certain individual.

Anyways, here is the mandatory GA: DK2oY

Hello, dear sir.

Please don't take it personally if you get Blacklisted by any chance.

It just means that you have received more than what you have given and this is just my means to make it fair for others to give them a higher chance of winning a game.

Hey, don't sweat it. I t's perfectly fine. Whenever I hear the word "blacklist" I always figure that to get on it, you have to insult or be a real douchebag to someone, which I don't remember being. But that is a perfectly good reason too.

1) I just hate people that are like:
Me: You won a giveaway.
Him/Her: k
Me: Congratulations.
Him/Her: k
Me: I'm sending you the gift right now.
Him/Her: k
Me: Sent! Enjoy and have a nice day. Don't forget to mark the giveaway as received. ^_^
Him/Her: The user is now offline.
Me: Fck you, you ungrateful sht.
Can't they even say a thank you? And why can't they add the letter o and write the word with 2 letters, by the way?
2) Most times, I add the giveaway winners and they don't accept me and block me. I send them an e-mail to inform them about the giveaway. They add me and I ask them why they didn't accept me and they're like: I thought you were a scammer/bot. And I'm like: How the f*ck do I look like a scammer/bot? xD I'm a big-leveled steam user with a public old profile and lots of steam friends.
And one funny thing was that I once had to use my limited knowledge of the Italian language to communicate with a winner. :P I'm just saying this because it was funny. :P

I'm guilty of one count of reverse 2), must've seemed really assholish of me to the guy because -
he won my GA, and got a humble gift link that told him 'invalid/nonexistent gift' or something to that tune, and then I ignored his friend request on Steam.
Fortunately he made a (very rightfully) agitated comment on one of my screenshots so I added him to sort things out, and found out that the link that to me seemed ok (someone sent you a humble gift! enter your e-mail... etc.) showed as invalid for him, probably for some regional issue (He was from Ukraine I think).
Humble support luckily got to me quickly and I was able to give him a working link this time. I really hope he doesn't hold a grudge against me now. :-) i'm sorry, guy!

Can't say about worse attitude because it's based on misunderstanding - both not being English native speakers.

But I've been confronted to two or three winners asking for their games not even 24 hours after the end of the giveaway and another user that thought I was regifting a game (I won it in a massive giveaway, I've activated it, played it and months after, decided to give a copy back to the community with a link to Yunie's thread about it) but it was cleared quickly as someone else came to my defense.

Apart that, nothing bad enough to make a voodoo doll and curse someone.

"Mine is being harassed for "blacklisting" a certain individual."

Your definition of harass is amusing. Did I call you or spam you anywhere except the stupid thread where I merely asked why I was blacklisted while you let someone else help you reply and meanwhile calling me a leech? Or sending me a steam gift which turned out to be redeemed by someone else and than after 7 days when I marked as not received you claim I am a kid who "declined your gift" and proceed to start this whole thread with an obvious intention?

Not sure who is the "stop being a kid, grow up".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How can a Steam gift be redeemed? o_O You cannot even send a gift using Steam's system if somebody added it to their library; the inventory item that was the gift gets consumed in that process.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That was what Steam system wrote in bold red letters when I clicked the steam gift url in the email from OP 7 days ago. "GIft has been redeemed". I checked my library, it wasnt redeemed to mine. Neither did it ever show up in my steam client. The only plausible reason is OP retracted the gift after the inital email and trying to put the blame on me. Today, after 7 days and marking not received, OP finally sent another email which appeared in my steam client and was successfully added to my library. His message in the gift was,

"Dear Jiawei,
Rejecting the gift then marking it as not received is a new low.
Stop acting like a child and grow up.
You Owe Me," .

Guess what? i actually marked it as received on the 3rd day after the first email before actually trying to redeem it, and now op claims I rejected the gift. Loopholes everywhere ain't it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Wait. If that was your message, I think you two managed to fall out on a misunderstanding; read this:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=549#redeemed

Steam gifts cannot be revoked by the gifter themselves; once it is sent, it is up to the receiver what to do with it and the sender cannot do anything about it.
The already redeemed message is a known Steam error, and given how bad their community servers were in the past year, it is not that uncommon that it happens.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There is also this thing my dear

"
Q: I sent a Steam gift to a friend's email address, but that person already owns this game. Can I give this gift to someone else?

Yes, provided your friend has not already redeemed your gift using a different Steam account. To give your gift to a different friend, install Steam if you haven't already done so. After logging into your account, click on the "Games" menu and select "Manage gifts and guest passes". From your Steam Inventory locate the gift that has not been redeemed and click on Re-send gift.
"

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But that only works if the gifted account does already have the game. I cannot find any trace of actually doing any shady stuff with Steam gifts; this is the primary reason Steam gifts are considered a helluava lot more valuable at trades or as a surefire way to avoid scam (unless the gift was purchased illegally and revoked by Valve itself).
I understand that you are upset and salty, but based on your story, I'm almost 100% sure it was a misunderstanding and you just had your gift stuck in Steam, which eventually results in the return of the gift to the sender an an unredeemed one.

I am not sure why anyone would really care about the attitude of someone they don't even know what looks like, let alone hardly ever engage with.Surely one just cuts ones loses (if there are any) and moves on. There are ways to limit communications and one doesn't always need to rise to the occasion and have the last word because as they say you can't argue with crazy.

Far better to spend time talking about the people that make you happy rather than the people that piss you off!

Some give the anonymous person on the internet far too much of their thoughtful time when quite frankly they really shouldn't even give a dam to be honest if said person actually means nothing in their lives.

Terrible people calling another names, urging them to end their life because of an unfortunate event, & rude comments, bad attitude towards rules and expectations, animosity ... There's just a lot that goes on ...

But please, Be respectful of other and be wary of your comments everyone! Telling someone to hurt themselves and/or others is NOT funny. It is offensive, degrading, and a form of cyberbullying and abuse. You never know what the person is going through and what they may do in reaction to your words. Your words are powerful, your voice is a privilege, and you must remain vigilant about what messages you are trying to convey.

From personal experience, I've both experienced physical and online bullying, and I have seen other people literally committing suicide or killing others because people were egging them on. Do NOT participate in this behavior. Stand up for those who are being pushed down. IMO, There is too much idling and diffusion of responsibility (bystander effect) and ignorance that goes on in society. If you don't want to directly confront the abuser/attacker, contact support or talk to other peers in the community who do feel comfortable enough to voice your concerns.

Very true. There is this idea by some, that because bullying online does not involve direct contact, it's "just words" and people should "get over it". We belittle the impact of non-physical violence too much. Offline and on. Bullying is not only horrible due to its direct nature, as dangerous as that can get for someone's physical well-being. It is horrible due to what it does to a person's emotional and mental well-being, above all. And you don't need direct contact to harm those.

I have thankfully not come across any unpleasant winner for my giveaways. Everyone has been very nice and even when there was a Humble Bundle mix-up with delivering the link, the user was kind enough to wait and trust me.

Even a blacklisted person had a very reasonable discussion with me, which made me remove them from the list quite quickly. I do blacklist folks if they show some really bad behavior/break the rules or then seem like the kind I don't want to spend my money on (I would rather not pay to entertain a troll, racist, sexist, homophobe etc), but I am always up for discussion, if I have misunderstood someone.

But I have not made that many giveaways, so I am sure I'll run into some unpleasant person or other at some point. Personally, I just ask for following the rules and showing basic politeness and respect to myself and other users. I know level-free, public giveaways are most appreciated by some, but I do prefer to make sure the people who enter them at least bother giving back a little and actually participate in the community. Not that this guarantees the absence of rule breakers or generally jerk-natured people, but I hope it helps a little with at least the very bad ones.

My sympathies to those who have had to deal with such individuals. Hang in there, folks. And vent when you need to.

Dear Orion, imagine this.

If a bl user ask a simple question on why he was bl and you did not reply, waiting for others to help you reply instead. And me simply telling you that had you told me earlier, it would not have been so much mess. Is that my wrong?

Proceed to not have any form of contact with you for a week and after that you claim I am harassing you. Is that my wrong?

Proceed with you imagining sending me a steam gift which appear in my email but not in my client. And when I click the gift url, steam web says "Gift has already been redeemed" but its not in my library. So after 7 days I mark as not received, is that my wrong?

Imagine you proceed to claim that I purposely decline your original gift which was not the case, is that my fault?

All the scenarios are the tldr of what a big liar the OP is. You be the judge

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I believe someone has the right to not speak with you if they have blacklisted you. However, if you entered a giveaway before being blacklisted, you should be given the game you won. At least as far as I understand the way things work here.

As for the gift issue, I would personally try to sort it with SG, since I cannot know if the person is lying or if there was a technical mix-up, which does happen quite often (the redeemed gift thing). I certainly would not enter an unrelated topic created by them and try to shame them for things I am not sure are their fault though.

And I do not appreciate you sticking your personal attack to the OP on my message, frankly. That shows great lack of respect to me and my words. I hope you two can sort it out, but please do not piggyback your issues on other unrelated users.

Nah, don't worry. As in literally: just don't worry about your winners and you'll less likely have anything to get mad about with them. I just distribute the keys, maybe run around a little in email if they don't bother to redeem already, and move on to the next dozens GAs next week. Haven't had an argument with any winner of the 600 or so.

Comment has been collapsed.

As someone without the money to have dozens of GAs so often, I guess I get more annoyed when people do not follow rules and are ungrateful. But I would not get mad at a winner unless they broke the rules or lied. I just send the things out, maybe throw an email congratulating them, just for good measure, and it's done. For more pricey games, I do try to make as sure as possible that those who can enter in the first place are at least members who give half a damn (level restriction helps), but other than that, I'm good with whatever happens. And SG support is there for the rest. Well, when they manage to get through everything.

Your advice is good in general, however. "Don't worry" is a good mindset to have. Makes you healthier.

It's a lot cheaper to make lots of bundle GAs than most people think. I doubt I spent 400 USD in the past 8 months on GAs entirely. If you are careful enough, bundle games are about 12-18 US cents on average.

I generally wish to give away games with good reviews or then of course bundle leftovers when I do buy bundles. I just don't buy them that often and do not want to make purchases that might make it harder for me to buy a game I do want later. I do like this site, but I don't want to obsess over it too much. I buy when I can spare and find something that looks nice, give what I don't need/want away and just go with it in a way that fits my own purchasing methods and frequency, I guess. It does not level me up quickly, but I am ok with that. :)

Now I'm frightened. And slightly excited, which I guess is a sign it is slowly happening. Good... I think. Now my brain hurts. Ahaha.
