For me, it depends on the game/genre and what it promises to offer, I can't exactly say I prefer a longer over a shorter game or vice versa, but to generalize over such circumstantial things like playtime alone is the equivalent of dismissing a game because it doesn't have the latest 'omg, so realistic'-graphics anyway IMO. Either a game achieves to be an overall satisfying product, or it doesn't. I enjoy lengthy games as Civ or Skyrim as much as titles like Gunpoint or Machinarium (first examples I could think of :P) and therefore value them accordingly, though I neither would say they're worth the same, content does matter to a degree - but quality content, not filler ;>.
Anyway, great train with games everyone should give a try :3.

Mafia III would have been a great 12-15h game. I really liked the story, the setting, the soundtrack and I also though the boss fights were diverse and truly thought out.
Unfortunately they decided to go the open world route and that made the game repetitive and boring. I still beat it and had my fun but found the overall experience lacking.
I personally care more about the quality of the game than its length and actually prefer a great 2-3h experience to a bad 20+h grindfest. However, I don't shy away from playing long games :)

Seeing how buggy Mafia 3 was, I do suspect that the game went through quite a lot of development trouble, and this is just me guessing, but it's possible that the higher ups demanded that the game would be more open world relatively late in the development cycle. And I completely agree about the story and bosses being really good, and the facial animations were surprisingly nice as well, allowing the characters to express a lot more emotions than what's normal, which helped the storytelling as well.

Bump!
And yes, to long stories often tend to be repetitive and boring after some time.

For the pace i´m going at the buzzkill is a godsend to be perfectly honest. I liked salads in the beginning, less boring than fried chicken but still memorable, then i upgraded them .... and that´s when salad went off the menu :p
Upgrading Ice Cream was half as bad though. I feel managing your menu actually´s got a strong relation to your usual diet, even if that might sound utterly stupid.

Heh, if that's the case I need to put soda and pizza on the menu more often!
I'm about half way through to the second star, so haven't upgraded anything more than once I think, so the salad is not too bad. Pizza on the other hand, that sucks! And I haven't bought soup yet... not looking forward to it either!

There are some people who like to measure the value of their games in how long they are compared to how much they spent. Personally I'm not a fan of this, I would much rather pay for a short game that's engaging all the way through, than a long game that's just engaging most of the time. Of course, everything has its limits, but I feel like it's better for a game to be as long as it needs to be, than pad out its length with filler content. Case in point, Mafia 3 would be a lot better if they had skipped the whole "take over the city" part, and just had the story missions. That's not to say that games should be short, imagine if Pillars of Eternity had been a 4h game, that would not have worked with that kind of story.
But here are some giveaways for some games that are not super short. Do note that I am asking something of you if you're winning one of these, so read the descriptions.
Reading is good
