Sometimes I dont say what I want to say, because the blacklist thing scares me off. Mainly cause everybody can blacklist anyone without any reason

I was wondering if anyone else is having the same feelings about the blacklist thingie. Its not that I cant enter their giveaways, but more a thought of people disliking me. I know maybe it sounds stupid and people will probably blacklist me even for asking this...but thats ok got to get over the fear of the blacklist

Or dont you care about who or why people are blacklisting you?

UPDATE:
6 more blacklist cause of this topic, but it didnt hurt cause also got whitelisted many more times

Are you holding back cause of the blacklist?

yes
no way
I'm afraid to answer

ME?? HOLD BACK??? NEVER. NEVER EVER EVER. Listen... I think blacklist/whitelist play the same role in life as enemies (for a lack of a better word) and friends. You whitelist people you wanna keep close, you blacklist people you don't. Now... the real question yoshirules, is... does it even matter? I consent... people here sometimes use the whole blacklist thing like wielding a hammer or acting as judge; sure it gets to their head a bit but can they really be faulted? As Zimbardo showed in his Standford Prison Experiment ... even "normal people" have a reaction when given "power" in something as trivial as an artificial mock-prison experiment. (And I am not here to argue whether it achieve its goal, or what exactly was its goal at all, i'm simply trying to tie a very well known experiment with the phenomenon that yoshirules is presenting: (and I quote) that... "sometimes I don't say what I want to say, because the blacklist thing scares me off" (end quote). I think the most important thing to remember yoshirules is that it is not the blacklist ITSELF that does not permit you from writing what is on your mind, but rather YOUR OWN FEAR of being put in a blacklist. Let's go back to what I believe is the real question here: does it even matter? Does even matter if a few people, a few hundred if you're being an ass or breaking the rules or such (which I don't think you are) blacklist you from their giveaways into oblivion?? I would argue not. I would argue it is YOU who holds HIMSELF back, because of an irrational fear (which, let me tell you, every human being has in the thousands) in a game giving site in the middle of the web. Dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee relaxxxxxx. Say what you want, mean what you say and you will be surprised with the many outcomes and tenfold possibilities. Cheers!

Just trying to state the obvious, nothing on this site should be worthy of exaltation, taking offense for something someone said, for being blacklisted. It is of no importance in your life
The same thing could be said to whoever uses blacklist.
The only thing that comes to mind would be avoiding making GA´s for people who would try to either scam you or just just be a pain in the ass to contact. That makes me waste time unnecessarily

50 people blacklisted you, guess what? there are 1K users who you wouldn't want any interaction with, way less the real life.

I guess so. If I have something to say that a bunch of people might disagree with, then I might soften it up or not even say anything sometimes, but I don't find myself worrying about it too much. The majority of people around here are pretty reasonable in terms of blacklists.
I understand what you mean when you say you don't want people to not like you-I've been there a lot- but it's important to remember that you can't please everyone, and many people aren't even worth pleasing. Last I checked I was on 9 or so BLs. It makes me feel bad, but I have no way of knowing which are "revenge" blacklists from people I have blacklisted, and which are for actual reasons I can address. There's only so much you can do in the way of prevention AND redemption, since like you said, people can and will BL for any reason, and aren't obligated to tell you. The best thing to do is not worry about it too much, and if you find someone who has blacklisted you, ask them politely if there's a way you can redeem yourself to them.

Eh, I know I'm not always a good person, plus I only enter giveaways from groups and whitelists, so I don't give a shit about getting blacklisted. Some users found me unworthy of their giveaways, whoopy-doo, I don't give a shit and probably never will stumble across a giveaway from users who have blacklisted me anyways.

Really, I think that blacklisting is more of a thing which makes the blacklister feel satisfied, rather than making the blacklisted feel down. The blacklister feel powerful and in control, even when they probably don't even giveaway anything and are leechers.

This comment is an example of how I don't hold back because of blacklists. Fuck you all, I do what I want! :D
Seriously though, I love you all.

I've only blacklisted a couple of people for things they said on the forums, and they definitely deserve it. But I'm now taking another step: trawling through the entries to my GAs and preemptively blacklisting accounts for leeching and/or not activating wins. So far I'm finding that, even at level 4+, about half the entrants are shits. (But there are few enough that I can actually scan them all.)

Many of my BL comes from asking for rerolls and getting people suspended, meh what can you do? I didn't break the rules...

And ye, i'm afraid to speak my mind on the forum, luckily I'm on more WL than BL, that's something I guess :)

In RL I actually hold back quite often because I'm afraid of people not liking me. On the internet it happens. Like if I join a guild in a mmo. But the longer I stay somewhere and more comfortable I feel around people I start saying most of the things anyway :D
Here it didn't happen (yet). Although I respond to topics, comments, opinions, I don't feel that way. I guess because I joined sg to give away some games and maybe win some, not so much for the people. If I meet nice people though that is a wonderful thing! :)

Funny, that's the reason to hold back for me. Because I notice right away, that I'm saying something stupid... so I don't say it and everybody but me is happy -.- sigh

With the blacklist thing you dont know what is going to happen.
For example I asked this question and get blacklisted, dont know by who dont know why that makes me insecure

Because there are some stupid people out there :(
In swtor I once had a really stupid misunderstanding with another player and I got blacklisted. I wanted to explain what had happend, but... yeah, BL. I was flustered the whole evening until I finally sad, it was the loss of the other person. He/she will never now what a nice person I am. But it takes quite a while for me to be so "relaxed" about these things.
The RL thing is the big issue for me. Normally you have to interact with people again and again. Even if they don't like you and therefor start bullying/hurting you. I had enough of that already in my live, so... I shut up and don't always say whats on my mind. Friends and family are luckily excluded from that rule :D

people who hurt other people or bullying them are really stupid and need to be avoided at any cost. If anyone finds pleasure in bullying another human being then there is really something wrong with that person
Better to say whats on your mind in real life cause you are a nice person :)

I did care but now I don't. I'm not a rule breaker so its purely based on my personality and the image I give on the forums so shrugs I stopped caring and now its just a number on the stats. There are people that won't like you, its just how life is, it took me a while to realise that

I did feel bad the first times I got blacklisted and fear of being blacklisted probably plays a significant role on my not writing sometimes.

It's an attitude I usualy have in "real life" too, and I consider it to be er... limiting, this makes my life "smaller", it corrupts me and makes me lose will. Don't you keep your mouth shut in many situations so that people won't be mad at you or mock you?

It's an attitude that definitely has to be changed, it's so bad in so many ways...

I often refrain from writing my opinions because of blacklisting. As you, not for the missed giveaways, but because I would love to keep the sweet illusion that no one dislikes me...

Well, if you really want to know what I think about blacklists, I wrote my opinions long ago here. But even linking to that seems dangerous these days.... :(

"Its not that I cant enter their giveaways, but more a thought of people disliking me."

It doesn't necessarily mean they dislike you. Some do it for the lulz, some are ratio-nazis (unlikely in your case), or some do it because they don't like that you're promoting your YouTube channel in the description of your giveaway cough totallydidnthappentome cough

On a happier note, reading this thread reminded me that I forgot to whitelist you. That's been fixed now.

I already spent too much time on the internet to care ;) I mean - yeah, years ago I was afraid what other people's opinion about me may be (expressed verbally or by blacklists/reports/whatever) and consciously or not I was holding back.

And to be honest I found SG forum a nice place to post anything from the start. And it's rarely that easy for me as I usually need to spend some time around to felt comfortable and write/say anything (that applies to rl too).

people shouldn't "hold back" their thoughts when posting just because of blacklists, but maybe they should think twice and 1: use logic and common sense; and 2: be nice and considerate when posting.
that will probably solve 90% of the blacklists.

Hello again yoshi :P

To be fair, I'm not scared about blacklists, after all, I'm on 42 whitelists and 7 blacklists by now, which is quite good in my opinion since I haven't been blacklisted in over a month :D and also because I believe I can't keep everybody happy, since there will always be people who disagree or agree with something I say or do, but I won't really be faced by it because people have the right to dislike me. All I can do is always try to be nice to people :D

Holding back because of couple of potential blacklists? Not a chance. Anonymous negative "opinion" from random stranger doesn't have big value for me (and shouldn't for you). Only exceptions are a) when you hear angry mob with pitchforks (hundreds of BL in short time) or b) it's BL from someone I respect. As long as you mind HOW you say what you have to say and WHAT isn't something like racism, neither a) nor b) shouldnt happen )

More, I'd say some BL is normal on international forum. When over 50% is not english native speakers, two stages of translation happen. Add to that cultural differences, oversensitivity, english slang, and recipe for someone getting hurt is ready.
