What's more impressive?
I usually check my percentage since you can always play those games with 1k achievements if you just want numbers - i have an itch to 100% a game whenever i can anyway

percentage. there's games with 2000 or more achievements that are too easy to get, some people can have 10k achievements that only come from two or three games, so it's not that impressive.

You'll get there one day! I believe in you, breadman!

I use completionist.me to track my achievements, you can sort them by total completion or even filter by ranges (ie: 10-20% achievements), it also shows your previously completed games that got new achievements added (only the ones you had previously registered in the website tho).

I just answer to make you or other people aware of it.
Of course other sites like BLAEO, completionist.me etc. give you more lets say options
Steam itself has included a kind of sorting option under your owned games tab (Sort by Name, Playtime, Completion.) a while ago.

I care more about percentage. But I have an achievement hunter friend who doesn't have a lot of achievements or perfect games but he has got some stupidly difficult 100%s, and I would say he is more impressive than me having this pile of perfect games consisting of easy VNs.

I think anything requiring dedication is worth of admiration... but your friend does sound really cool. Pass along congratulations for me!

From my eyes it's neither a number nor a %, it's more a bunch of specific achievements that remind me something that was memorable or made me laugh, or that forced me to play in a certain way. A bit like a memento.
Fortunately it's not a % in my eyes, because i tried so many games unlocking just some achievements, that then a % would be unfixable !
(The problem caring only about % is that it can prevent some players to try games that might spoil their average %, and thus deprive them of the simple pleasure of discovering this or that thing out of curiosity. I mean if you completed 200 games perfectly and care about your 100%, would you try easily a fun game but with 50% very hard achievements that can spoil this % total ?)
(edit : thank you it's very nice from you, have fun too in the way you find fun !)

I think that's a really healthy way of playing! I definitely admit to getting stuck in the mentality you outline in your third paragraph from time to time... but luckily it hasn't ruined my discovery of fun games!
More than numbers or percentage, I wish you many lovely mementos!

You mentioned a very important issue. I care too much about completions that gaming became toxic and that I stopped gaming for about 3-4 months. I was avoiding a bunch of games I wanted to play because they'd ruin my completion rate since they seemed quite difficult to 100%.
I'm trying to redeem this. I can never truly be a non-completionist but I am trying very hard to set a lower percentage like 90% minimum and I will put this into action in summer sale when I'll be purchasing a lot of games I've wanted to play but I most likely won't even be able to 100%. I need to learn to be okay with this. I need to learn to be satisfied with a minimum of 90% for harder-to-complete games. For the rest 100% will still be mandatory.
I wish luck and patience to anyone who is either a completionist or someone who is trying to go easy on completionism. Both are very tough to deal with.

"A little solo hobby"; "543 Perfect Games"... Ok, yeah, that makes me feel preeeeetty inadequate seeing as how I always try to 100% games due to OCD rather than it being a side thing and I'm nowhere near that. XD
Judging by that paragraph alone, I guess I focus on the number of 100%-ed games. ^_^'
Although, yeah, it kinda varies from game to game. The one single achievement in Dustforce or something crazy like a 100%-ed Bullet Hell game is a ton more impressive than, for example, some random Hidden Objects game.

Hey hey! A lot of them are VNs! Really!! Don't feel inadequate! (This just makes me want to break down that number by genre to see what percentage each is... I love making bullshit spreadsheets no one will ever care about but me...)

Percentage is hell, that's what refrains you from starting games "just for fun".
I prefer the total number of achievements, but I guess the number of 100% games is nice too... So why choose, let's say both ^^

Percentage is hell, that's what refrains you from starting games "just for fun".
Not to mention that's what the devs who are adding achievements for every dumb DLC they release, are counting on to get people to buy ridiculous "DLC".
And then there are those broken achievements, dead multiplayer games etc.
Still, it's nice to get that % readout. Especially after your achievement number got screwed by one of those 25K achievements game you can't ever get rid of :(

I like getting achievements. often I don't even buy games where the achievements are too difficult: speedrun, 1 death or online without players. I have 60% and unfortunately there are many games that eventually get boring and too lazy to pass. some achievements allow you to better explore the world and enjoy the game. but some achievements are more likely to cause pain than pleasure

Well you probably already know this, but I try to get 100% in my games. Althouuuuuugh I recently thought about skipping that for a while. We'll see what's stronger: My need for completion or... yeah, the other thing, what ever that is? Beating more games? Something xD

NIN!!!!! I've missed you girl <3333
Yeah you know, that other thing. The other thing you play games for other than achievables? Whatever that is

But leaving a game without 100%?
I'm struggling with the same thing. I'll try to lower my standards during this summer sale. I don't know what the results will be but I am not too optimistic. I hope you can accomplish it though, maybe we can take your example.

Percentage :D
I try to finish a game's achievements first before starting a new one, although for some of the more grindy games I work on them longterm while squeezing in some of the quicker ones to keep myself motivated. Otherwise it starts feeling like a chore and chores are not what I buy games for XD That's not to say I don't have any of those achievement spam ones in my library though.
That said, having a low-achievement game intermission has at times surprised me too; as the number does not necessarily give you a hint as to how difficult it'll be to 100% that game, haha. I had some rage-quit inducing ones there too.
Oh and something I absolutely loathe, though I've only so far come across one dev that did that (in two games), was playing a game with an achievement you can not unlock unless you use SAM etc. It literally had SAM in the achievement name, too. I initially wracked my brain and replayed the game because I didn't get the reference right away, looked up a guide, nothing. Then I saw the forum discussion of the dev being a troll. I was rather ticked off because the game itself wasn't utter trash to me, but baiting people into exposing themselves for SAMming seemed kinda weird to me. I had half a mind to add the achievement just to be done with that game, but then wouldn't that be exactly what the dev was going for? (Not trying to start a SAM discussion by any means, though.)

For me its neither one. I focus more on number of perfect games. Obviously addition of perfect games will increase both number of achievements and %completion rate.
You can't get achievements on many games because of various reasons. Like the achievement is broken or multiplayer server is dead. And there are achievements like limited seasonal ones, speedrun ones and too much grinding ones so going for 100% for each game is useless.
I think I will maintain around 50% of game library as perfect games. I will focus more on that.

Definitely percentage done, like I assume many people above have put its very easy to simply get a game that is super easy to 100% especially with all those free games with them. Plus its the 1st thing I look at and when its low I'll then look at the perfect wise. I see you've done a great job at keeping up yours and still up there with 100s of hours for a 2 hour game

XDDDDD A tiger cannot change her stripes! An idler.... cannot stop leaving her games open while she takes naps.

Fun is better, so that ends up going more towards number of achievements as trying out games and leaving them hits the percentage hard. Both getting a high percentage or high number of achievements are easily rigged with proper planning so neither are that impressive on their own.

Journey is the first game that made me care about achievements. When I first played it on PS3, I was disappointed at how short the game was for $15. Then I looked at the achievements and saw there were so many secrets to find. Finding those was truly enjoyable and made the game so much better for me. Since then, I've at least looked at the achievements to see if any were worthwhile.
I hate achievements that are a pointless waste of time. Unrailed! for example has an achievement that requires you to stay on one page in the menu for an hour. Dumb.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's a smart way to do it - take a gander at achievements to see if they point you toward something good.

Of course completion! And playing the games you like for 100% is even more fun!
it's sad that some devs never cared to fix buggy cheevos...even normal games, not just cheevo spam games from 2017 :(
hence byebye 100% avc :P
also dont start Pixel Puzzle Ultimate - it will decrease your avc a lot! You have to buy a loooot of overpriced DLCs and spend a lot of time for 100% and never keep it cuz dev keeps adding new overpriced DLCs ....and some packs were removed.. to get them you have to finish everything else and removed pack cheevos will be automatically added to you >_<

Both are silly for me. If you go and buy games with a lot of achievements, you`ll increase at least the percentage. And even if you dont go and buy these games, you can get some games with guides to 100% and increase your numbers and percentage by abusing the system (e.g. Subnautica). I mean srsly? And for me its not hunting, its farming. An hunter will always go and get achievements which are hard to get and ppl with a large amount of achievements are just achievement collectors. They dont have time to hunt for a special and hard achievement.

Neither, the "Average Game Completion Rate" is the only thing that matters. Both number of achievements and number of 100% can be easily manipulated. The number of achievements especially is very meaningless to me unless they're gotten from legit games.
As an avid achievement hunter for many years my only recommendation would be to not start 100%-ing your games, but just enjoy them instead. "Achievements" are objectively useless and the higher your average completion the more enticed you are not to let annoying achievements go and waste a lot of time.

I'm actually thankful that cheating is so easy on Steam. On Playstation getting all these Platinum trophies got way too addictive. But on Steam, there is no reason why I should bother. It's just nice to have and experience, but absolutely meaningless regarding bragging. :)

I'm a modest achievement whore by any means, but it's a little solo hobby that I enjoy plugging away at day by day, and I'm proud seeing my progress, particularly watching my achievement percentage creep up little by little. I realized that I barely paid any attention to the number of achievements I've gotten at all!
Is that true for other people who care about achievements? What matters more to you? Why?
Comments about 'I don't care about achievements/I think achievements are dumb/etc' will make my eyes glaze over and be ignored!
I would attach a giveaway to this but I'm broke!
