So what was the name of the last game you ever pirated and Why?
I ressntly had to pirate a copy for Mass Effect 3. I bought a key, activated it in Origin, next day the game was gone! Origin support was just painful. They kept me bouncing back and forth from EA help to Accounts Help! After a month I just gave up!

Do you pirate games?

View Results
Yes, I pirate them regularly.
Yes, I can't afford to always buy original copies so sometimes I pirate.
I only do it after I have paid for the game at least once or if it is abandon ware
No, I never pirate a game no matter what!
Does Assassin's Creed IV count?

Age of Empire Gold Edition to test user HD patch.
I'm ready to delete the pirated copy as soon as Microsoft re-release AoE on Steam or GOG.

The main reason i used to pirate in the past was to test the games i was interested to purchase.Since then ( hard to remember the time) i never pirated again. Thanks to Steam sales, i don't regret buying any game.
And i'm sorry for your bad experience with Origin, their client is a bit crappy. You should retry contact them if you have proofs of the key purchase etc.I played Mass Effect 3 on my ps3(even tho it had negative reviews, i never faced any problem).Love all Mass Effect games . Looking forward to Andromeda :)

for me its any game that i cant get a demo of and i delete it within a few days i just try it out and if i don't like it i don't buy it if i do ill buy it, i just don't want to pay a lot of money for something and not like it then never play it. IMO all games should have a demo so u can try it out to decide if u want to buy it or not. last game i did that for was

In past 4 years, only 2. Previous Starcraft and Wasteland 2 at release (I bought this one later, when it got decent discount and even with discount it still was more expensive than full price ru copy -.-.. and it's only game ever for which one I paid more than 10$). Reason? Money; too expensive.
As soon as I get bored with latest Dota season pass, I'll probably "checkout" new Starcraft and XCOM2 ;)

The only time I ever downloaded a game ROM was for streaming something I could not stream from the original console I had, and I still owned a physical copy of the game in that circumstance. I collect games and pirating them never sat well with me. =P

Games it has been years, around Kazza lite or Emule time. Movies/Tv would be last night. AMC closed the 3 closest theaters to me and I don't feel like driving 45 minutes to a mega showplace. Almost everything is available streaming on day 1 and often DVD quality shortly after. Screw $12 tickets and $10 popcorn and soda.

Used to pirate a lot, then discovered game bundles and Steam sales, and haven't looked back xd When I can buy games for less than the price of a bar of chocolate, it's not really worth to pirate. (Except the Sims Store, because fuck EA, and them milking the same game and their customers again and again.)

Haven't pirated in so long I don't even remember!

I used to have a collection of burned CDs with pirated games on it, but getting a steady job completely stopped that.

I used to pirate all my games, but now if i cant afford a game i just wait for sales, bundles or i buy it from the grey market. I still follow the rule a wise man once said: "Never pay more than twenty bucks for a computer game".

eh. My perspective is that some games are worth a lot more than others, because of the amount of time you'll put into it. A game that you're done with after half an hour is barely worth paying for, but when a game sucks you in for months at a time, that's worth a hell of a lot more.

$50 for a game that sucks you in for 100+ hours? What other form of entertainment is that cost-effective?

Well it depends on the content itself as well - for example Stick it to the Man is a short game but fully packed with ideas and almost no downtime. Similarly with Jazzpunk. On the other hand a lot of open world games are packed with busywork, needless collectibles and you spend most of the time walking around. While obviously everyone thinks what's a quality way of entertainment, but the sheer quantity alone isn't really suffice.

I agree that time doesn't necessarily equate to quality, but if you're putting in a gazillion hours, even with a lot of filler, you're still getting a lot of entertainment (if a game was too much filler and not enough meat, people wouldn't play).

What I can say is that certain games are worth every penny, and probably more, while other games are worth a lot less. If I'm done with a AAA game within a few hours (whether finished or bored) it's not worth anywhere near as much as some indie I've spent weeks trying to master. Unfortunately, that AAA game probably cost three times as much as the indie, and people's perception of value is clouded by that fact.

Hm, actually I'm surprised you're on the Indie's side - but yes, it's very true. Especially that mainly AAA games have lots of fillers with luke-warm stories - except the few glorious exceptions.

actually, I think the vast majority of indies are crap. But, then I find something like This War of Mine, or FTL, and I realize I've spent more time playing those games than on the entire half-life series combined.

Now, when it comes to filler, it really does vary by game. Roaming through empty spaces, or doing a lot of back-tracking, I don't really consider that quality time. Likewise, some RPGs which require a lot of grinding, it's really hard to say that every moment is well-spent. But a little bit of grinding or backtracking is ok when the rest of the game more than makes up for it.

One of the greatest games I've ever played, Wizardry 7, is also one of the longest to beat, because it requires all of it: a lot of grinding, a lot of large empty spaces, and a lot of backtracking, but the game more than makes up for it by being arguably the pinnacle of its kind. (1st person party based CRPG a la Ultima or Might and Magic).

Considering the ratio of properly done indies to the shovelware it's true that most of them is shit. :D

I come from a time when most games were "indies" in that most were created by about 2-4 people with little to no budget. So I'm a gameplay over graphics person. And big budgets are mostly spent on graphics.
