Favorite anime and why? (For otakus/hardcore anime fans, casuals welcome to though)

That would be Ginga eiyû densetsu, really amazing .

It has to be HunterXHunter (the 2011 series). The story is great but what makes it my favorite anime are the characters. There are a ton of great characters, each with with unique personality and abilities. The characters are really well written and their interactions with each other feel natural. And the art style is beautiful modern anime. And of course there's the super-kawaii Kurapika!! fangirl squeal ≧‿≦

Hunter x Hunter is easily my favorite, great characters, great design, great story. The remake HxH 2011 is nice too, but they removed 2 crucial scenes in it:

1: Kaito at the beginning.

2: The bath scenes~

Other great animes that stand out are Gravitation and Trigun.

Soul eater, Sket Dance, Hellsing. Why? Cos awesome

I was writing this before the site went down.

I prefer manga to anime, I don't watch many anime anymore, Last i saw was Ben-to after some years without watching any.

It's very hard to only pick one but it would be Lupin the Third.

BERSERK

My favourite anime is Fairy Tail. The others I like are Dragon Ball and Pokemon.

the best mangá I'm following right now would be The Breaker: New Waves, followed tightly by Berserk, however Berserk hardly has any updates, but the quality of the mangá is astonishing.
takes in depth emotions and has that dark vibe to it, if you haven't read it yet, I really suggest you to.
as for the breaker, its a manhwa, or korean mangá, however it follows the mangá rules, such as pages and style.
its a story about a loser, but then things happen. well, I wont spoil much of it, if you're interested, go ahead and read these two, they're amazing.

I haven't watch many animes yet but here are my favorites:
Sora No Otoshimono - Seriously a must to watch! How the perverted things turn out and what the main character does makes this story really funny bus also a touching one. Its really great (its safe for women to watch)

Death Note - I agree with other people that the first half of the anime is actually better. Not because everything starts over again from there, but it feels kinda rushed. But still a great story. Also I didn't like the end but thats because I saw things differently then the creators.

Dragonball Z - I like it because of the fights, its pretty much epicness but stretched out a bit to make a story instead of only foghting. Another reason why I like it is because of my childhood memories with it.
