It is generally accepted that the majority of PC hardware available now will be able to run PS4 and X720 ports smoothly?

Right now I have over $1,200 saved up for a new build (possibly with an i5 3570k and GTX 670, I'm open to suggestions though), and I don't want it to be totally obsolete in a year. :D So would you guys wait, or just go ahead?

I am merely waiting for my check to clear at the bank(tomorrow), I then will buy all the parts at newegg for a grand total of $989(would've been ~1100 if I didn't do the shoprunner trial), and there is $40 in mail in rebates I can do

Well don't be like that (: Post some specs!
Did you shop around enough? GPU's seem to be cheapest at TigerDirect and CPU's at Microcenter. Still can't believe they have an i7 3770k for $230.

can't get the case in a screenshot(to lazy to type of specs)

my cart at new egg

I will do some price checking before I actually purchase, but I will likely buy it all through newegg to make things simple(and free 2-day shipping on all but the case)

additional note, I had a budget of ~1,000, thats why I didn't get intel processors and such(doing the best to get the biggest bang for the buck)

and ordered my parts, had to get different ram as the one on my cart sold out sadly(raised my cost a little)

My current PC is showing signals of aging but I'm trying to make it last for AT LEAST a year... I agree that there is a bit of a leap in PC hardware after a new console is launched but this is usually tied to new Directx IMHO. Anyway if you already have $1.200 in a year you'll have enough for a kick ass PC. More then I'm willing to pay, actually...

I were you (which I'm not) I'd wait till Q4 2014, but a kick ass PC, a couple of AAA games and with the remaining money treat my GF to a nice weekend to justify the following weeks of absence (due to excessive gaming). That way she wins, you win, everyone wins!

EDIT: I just noticed your profile name suggest you're a girl so treat your BF to that nice weekend! Guys like free stuff too! :P

I expected some kind of backlash for implying being gay is bad (although not as much as being single). Anyway, give your BF a nice gift OP! You'll have more then enough money if you buy the PC next year and that almost always guarantees great sex!

Yes, thats exactly what I implied that being gay was being scum. rolls eyes

At the same price of GTX 670 you can get an RADEON 7970, that is A WAY better!!!! equally to GTX 680 and sometimes even faster and have 1gb more of vRAM.

Do you have that card?
How reliable are the drivers? I'm pretty loyal to Nvidia, and the 7970 is a little more expensive

Unless you have a need for Physx or CUDA, or you have a lacking PSU and cant handle heat, you should go 7970. The games included can be sold for 60-70 which can offset the cost.

MSI twin Frozen GTX670 here. Only a heavily modded skyrim uses most of the Vram.

Uses most of the VRAM? How much do you have exactly, 1GB?

Yes, I have 1GB on a GTX670. /sarcasm.
Skyrim peaks out at about 1.9GB consumption in whiterun.

You must not have ever modded a game before. HD textures eat up a lot of Vram. I mean, you should know this owning New Vegas, Fo3, and Oblivion.

Buy intel (i5 or i7 in 1155), and dont buy a high end graphics card, it doesnt worth (and never, NEVER, oc version).
Ah! It MUST be Nvidia :)

Thats is my suggestions :D

I would wait another 9-12 months, for any big upgrades. If you were upgrading just the GPU or CPU, I would say go ahead (if the upgrade wasn't worth more than 200$), but, at the moment, it's best to wait for new console generation to arrive, which will bring lower hardware prices and enable you to be without worry for the next 3-4 years. However, the answer also depends on what you current PC spec's are, and what games are you primarily interested in playing. In the meantime, if you are too sick of your current PC, try doing smaller upgrades for half the price (600$ max.), or buy second hand with a warranty.

Halfway this year the new Intel CPU should come out, the Haswell. I would wait for this and then get that. With that you will easily be able to last the next 4 years.

You can probably still last the next four years with a Phenom II. I have one, and I still haven't taxed it with normal gameplay over four years later, and I am predicting another four years. That's eight years.

Does this demonstrate that CPUs are improving more slowly? No, this shows that games are not CPU-centric. Unless your GPU isn't running at 100% without VSYNC, your CPU doesn't need to be improved.

Wrong, there are plenty of games out there who are more CPU than GPU demanding. Planetside 2 is one of them, just to name one.

Going past the 4GHz mark brings diminishing returns. You are left with waiting for more games to adopt multi-cores. CPUs only have about 10 years before they stop shrinking.
Waiting for Haswell is a smart decision.

There's always new parts coming out and prices dropping. A major rule of PC building is to never wait. You can't future proof PCs.

The major rule is waiting for a big sale on something and then build your PC. Waiting for every part to go on sale is wasteful.

I think my 16 Gb of ram is pretty future proof. But yeah, other than that it's pretty impossible to future proof without spending a ridiculous amount of money. Still, it's probably best to wait until a new architecture comes out anyways, just so you have the absolute newest stuff.

I would actually use the release of new architecture as an excuse to buy up some top-line parts from the 'newly old' architecture. Sales and depreciation, used parts dumping on amazon/ebay. The parts are still as good as they always were for all games.

My system
E5300 Intel Dual Core (Oveclocked 3.3)

NVIDIA 450 GTS

3 GIGs of Ram

I still can play the latest games.
So I can wait.

Build now or wait another 2-3 years. The 3rd Generation is out and it's well worth the upgrade, you won't need must more juice in gaming for a while. Zero lag, maximum resolution of all games.

I would say wait till july when there's some big sales going on, mostly to make room for new inventory you'll be able to get much better hardware by then and we're expecting significant price drops on SSD's by then anyway and with a high mid range budget like that you'll want to go for an ssd

I'd build now. There's always going to be new components coming out, I wondered the same but I went with an i5 + GTX 670 build and don't regret it, you'll still be playing at max for a while and by then you'll probably want to upgrade anyway and can afford to.
