Music Train pt. 1

Some artists have an original song that just can't be beat by any cover, no matter how good the rendition. There is a sound, a mood, a feeling, that just can't be bested, the song has a soul.
One artist that has his own style that is so unique that usually nobody gets close, to me personally, is Iron & Wine. Sam Beam, the guy behind the Iron & Wine stage name, whispers his way into your heart, his subtle guitar play strikes a cord in your soul, anyone trying to cover him just sounds loud and unrefined by comparison. However when Sam covers someone else's song, he tends to make it his own, he doesn't add anything, he doesn't take anything away, he just tweaks it with subtleties until it is an Iron & Wine song, the original soon forgotten.

Cue Gregory Alan Isakov.
His folksy sound is filled with melancholy and stories about a simpler life, painting pictures of a time long gone.
He takes an Iron & Wine song, and replaces it's whispered subtleties with his own heartfelt emotions. It is soft, it is delicate, it takes you on a journey that Sam described, but never really went on. He balances on the cusp, almost losing control of his voice, pulling you in and dragging you along on a trip you don't really want to be on.
