That second screenshot made it really look like a 2D game.
I could visualise that specific hand drawn line art in my head, but couldn't think of a matching game.

Koudelka is a decent 7/10, not a flawless experience at all, however. Shadow Hearts is 9/10. Shadow Hearts II is granite-solid 10/10. Avoid FTNW fanfic at all costs. Wait for Shadow Hearts III (a.k.a. "Penny Blood") to come out, then go there after Shadow Hearts II.

Shadow Hearts II is a solid 10/10 only when it's undubbed and uncensored (so you have to seek out fan-restored undub fix/patch, or already-patched game image (CDr), or, in the worst-case scenario - you'll have to obtain DX/Director's Cut release, which was Japan-exclusive and was never translated thus far), however. Westoid localized port is still a great game, a definite 8/10, but slightly worse than what the full/complete/definitive version of the game offers. Unfortunately, DX/Director's Cut was never translated by anyone thus far, so all of the completely uncensored + tons of additional bonus content still being held "hostage" behind the language barrier (I know Japanese language quite well as to be able to play it in it's JP form, but, obviously, not everyone out there can be like me).

The AI couldn't really work with the character, but the backgrounds got pretty good, like proper textile flag material!
