Is it worth double-paying for The Outer Worlds?

View Results
[Tier 1] I'll just go full-on Savage-spend mode and pay $10 for a game that is usually $9 on sale and another one that is pretty often bundled, thus has very little value.
[Tier 2] Game collectors, rejoice! We can finally complete our collection with the non-Spacer's Choice Edition!
[Tier 3] The only thing here that's High is the price, but it's ok, these two make it worth.
[Have] I'm happy that I can already enjoy these games without having to spend additional money.
[Skip] I'm pretty content with my Spacer's Choice Edition, and the other games are not really enticing enough to make it buy it.

Makes me regret buying July Choice (mainly did for TOW). Not a bad bundle though!

I'm confused; why would you regret a $12 bundle (which might've been $9 with deal) for the remastered game with all content, when the full non-remastered edition here is $30 or the base edition is still more expensive at $15?

Permalink

Because I am interested in some of the other games as well, but not nearly as much as I would've been if I didn't have TOW. It was more of a joke comment than anything catastrophic.

How do The Outer Worlds and the season pass relate to previously bundled (in humble choice) The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This is the original version sold separately from the Spacer's Choice edition. So they're technically two different games? Spacer's Choice is a "remaster" basically.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Spacer's Choice is completely different sku, it is "definitive" verison of the game which includes all dlc. I say "definitive" since it was a technical mess when it was released, but judging by the reviews that should be fixed now.

Played through it + DLCs without ever crashing or finding a major bug. Only bug I found was selling junk would make the sound as if the volume was at 100% (when it was at 20%)

This is Skyrim. Spacer's choice is Skyrim Special Edition. But buggier (at least on launch)

Skyrim Special Edition had "remastered graphics". Is there such a thing here?

They are technically different apps not just in name. This version has the original graphics and some other stuff as well as separate DLCs (included in the Expansion Pass). This version also has another separate DLC with which you could upgrade it to the Spacer's Choice version thus being able to switch between the old and new version. The Spacer's Choice Edition app doesn't include the option to use the old graphics and stuff.

The Outer Worlds is just the base game.
The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition, is the enhance version of the base game + all DLCs

As one of the few people who actually owned the base version and upgraded to the enhanced edition, I can tell you the differences.
As I wrote in my review of the game:

The new edition has much better graphics. Not just better resolution, but many graphical changes.
The people look much more realistic (to the point that some have completely different faces), planets have additional huge structures in the background, which make them look much better. And other minor changes as well.
It does come with a cost though. It definitely takes up more GPU resources than the original, and some people have reported bugs & crashes (although I must admit, in my 40+ hours I have not encountered any)
In addition, the new edition has more/better Steam achievements.
And the game itself is slightly more difficult - when playing the same difficulty level as the original.
Overall I felt the new version was the better version, and having the choice - the one I prefer to be playing.
But that may not be the case if you have an older/weaker GPU...

There is however also a lot of people who prefer the old graphics over the new ones. It was one of the common criticisms when the new version came out and still is.

The Outer Worlds (2019) is a LOT lighter on system requirements than The Outer Worlds Spacers Choice (2023 Remaster).

While the lighting and graphics may--or may not-- have been significantly improved (depending on whom you ask), the minimum system requirements did jump sharply.

Spacer's Choice is also a new AppID (1920490), compared to the base game's AppID (578650).

For those of us with older, and weaker, GPUs (or systems in general), the older version may be the one to pursue.

Interesting, they included The Outer Worlds Spacer's Choice edition in Choice, and here we have first original version of the game + expansion pass. T1 sucks ass, T2 is decent but I'm really interested only in The Entropy Centre so I will try to trade for it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'd be interested in Journey To The Savage Planet, but I have it on GOG so even co-op is likely sorted, and The Entropy Centre is nowhere as wanted for me to pay this kind of money for it.
Tier 2 is somewhat reasonable with $3/game, but considering the recent bundling of Outer Worlds, it's... pretty weird choice to feature it in a bundle this soon.

Keeping the Outer Worlds expansion pass hostage in a double-priced tier just because High on Life is in there as well feels criminal, after they just recently bundled the full/definitive edition of O.W.

Do not want / expensive, so it's a simple skip from me.

But if you can switch between the versions when you own the DLC, isn't that bad.

Yeah, it just makes owning the Spacer's Choice Edition obsolete. Kind of a dick move by Humble and the publisher since I'm guessing the order was intentional.

Permalink

True. I also think that this was intentional. I own an older PC, so that the old version maybe running better on my hardware, and for me, the graphics also look a bit better - but thats's a matter of preference.
